  1. Past hour
  2. You're the chart man these days. Sunday's game is massive but it's not bigger than a cup win. Give me a choice and I'd happily drop into the CL next year and keep the cup win. As it happens I think we'll end up with both cos Eddie Howe is the fucking man.
  3. I was nearly 7 when we won the fairs cup. I was 62 when we won this fucker. I'd like them to come round at a more rapid rate than once every 55 years, or I won't ever see another one. we've been overwhelmingly shite for the entire time ive been supporting this club, I'd desperately like to see us dominate the domestic league and even europe before I'm no longer around. I believe the possibility of this happening hinges on the riches and prestige that comes with regular CL participation and not a domestic trophy every 70 years, hence why I think sunday's game is enormous @Gemmill... hoy a chart up man, say for the last 25 years or so showing who's won trophys/link to wages/income, prove your worth....
  4. Is it though? I know Jews are more likely to vote than the average joe but the largest populations of Jew are in New York, New Jersey and California, which all went Harris last time.
  5. It’s not a fair fight. He’s six pints of Aspall’s deep at this point
  6. The argument is whether an individual cup win is bigger than a one off CL qualification. That’s literally the debate you started. You can’t unequivocally say one is more of a catalyst for subsequent success. If you could, our previous CL campaigns would’ve lead to trophies sooner. It’s not clear cut. We all know finances are the main driver long term. Saying the game v Everton is bigger than the cup final is 20/20 revisionism purely because of the way the season has panned out though. I’d also say the club was not 100% banking on CL qualification this season in its long term planning. That and, on the playing side, Howe was even prepared to prioritise winning the league cup at certain points in the season
  7. You probably can't chuck things at players anymore though.
  8. sustained success is absolutely linked to finances, that is an unequivocal fact. I'm not trying to deny any fucker or myself the romance of winning the cup man, but if you want to see more and even bigger shinier ones then you need to come to terms with that, however distasteful you might find it.
  9. Ferguson or anyone else doesn’t get 3 and a half years to sort stuff out at a big club. It’s a complete anomaly and has been for decades. Another thing, as ewerk mentions, is that Ferguson’s adaptability was one of his huge strengths. He rebuilt great sides in a few occasions but also didn’t mind how he won at times, just so long as he did.
  10. I know a lot of people complain about the disproportionate coverage Man U get in the media but when you’ve been surrounded by ‘United’ fans your whole life you can’t help but absolutely drink this all in.
  11. It's no back garden in Boldon.
  12. If you’re going down that route, that revenue is the be all and end all, then it’s like arguing getting a brand new state of the art stadium is bigger than winning our first trophy. But I’m going to go out on a limb here and suggest it’s not the sole motivation for players. I’d suggest the cup final was a bigger deal. It’s been distilled somewhat in terms of importance this year because the race is so tight and it all comes down to ‘another cup final’. But the actual fact of winning things is what truly defines a club and drives future success as much as anything. We’ve been in the CL previously and it didn’t get us subsequent tangible success. Winning stuff is the only metric that really matters.
  13. The difference with Fergie is that his No.1 priority was to win. He wasn't evangelical in the way he wanted the team to play. Amorim's approach seems to be that he will set his team up his way no matter what and winning is secondary to that. I can understand his thinking in that he was successful with this system before so he wants to get it working again but just because it was successful in Portugal doesn't mean it will work in the PL, especially when he has inherited a squad totally unsuited to it. The best managers can be tactically flexible, Eddie Howe can easily change tactics during a game but Amorim appears to be a blinkered one trick pony.
  14. below is the correct answer. you mightn't fucking like it, but it's the harsh reality.
  15. Today
  16. absolutely fucking typical of this type
  17. I know some lads from work who are London-based / from the south east. One’s actually from Kent and ‘supports’ Man Utd AND Crystal Palace and the other is a Liverpool fan. They’re both spot on and the LFC fan particular knows his football and played at a very decent level. But I just struggle to take their football loyalties seriously. There’s fucking thousands like them all over the country too. Just glory hunters. You don’t really get that with Spurs. I can’t say I like them very much, although I do have some family from the Pinner / Northwood area who are ‘proper’ and followed THFC all over in the 80s. They’re a bit older than me but used to always stay with us / other relatives when they played us or the Mackems. I even went to see them v Sunderland at Roker Park once in the old Canon League Division One. So I was chuffed for them. They’re good lads. I don’t see Spurs kicking on either really as Levy is too cautious and they’re about 6 players off being a good side. On the other hand, Man Utd being deprived of CL at the moment when they need it most is fucking brilliant.
  18. tottenham will beat brighton on sunday. man utd will lose to aston villa and finish the season 17th. they're over £1b in debt ratcliffe announced net losses of 113m at the beginning of this year with further losses of over £300m over the previous 3 years. they lost £40m to covid. (i know) they've just seen a £100m windfall disappear over the bay of biscay. they'll likely spend a fucking fortune this summer!
  19. My thoughts exactly and guess what? The cunt never turned up even though his missus probably wanted to say bye to wor lass.
  20. Well you didn’t just pose the question, you agreed with the premise (I’d say so). IMO winning a cup was bigger for everyone at the club than CL qualification is. And that’s how it should be. Of course Sunday is a massive game but surely we’re not complacent about that trophy win already. When I say ‘we’ I mean you and CT. The latter being psychologically incapable of agreeing with the majority. Makes you think
