Yeah I can see the thinking here and also, as you said the other day, it should be a wake up call that investment is definitely needed. If we'd edged the last two matches 1-0 rather than lose them and we'd finished 2nd, they'd probably thing we don't need much further investment.

Whether our summar plans have been affected or not is one thing, it's concerning that the executive situation at the club seems to be in turmoil for the second summer in a row especially now with a window as important as this one. I'm happy we've finished where we are. We squeaked in to the CL on GD, and it should be clear to everyone involved in the hierarchy that we can't afford to try and do it that way every year. Obviously if we'd missed out, then those defeats come back to haunt you, but we've basically done the equivalent of landing exactly on the pass mark for our exam.

I am not too fussed about Mitchell tbh. I am pretty sure with Howe, Nickson and other people confident about what they are doing we can still manage to attract and sign players. The most important thing was qualifying for the CL. Without knowing anything about the reasons it looks like a person leaving his job just after a year without any achievements during a otherwise successful season probably just wasn’t the right one.

Exactly. My main grief is how we lost most of the games, either because of stupidity or lack of effort. There were only very few games we lost just because the other team was better.

The five home losses to midtable teams plus the missed away wins at Everton and Palace haunt me. Even half of those turned around would have had us 2nd or 3rd. All of them and we'd have pushed the scouse cunts.

Just looking at the final table, a frustrating aspect is the number of games lost - 12 in total. It's only 3 losses less than we lost in the 'great escape' season. When we qualified for the CL 2 years ago, we only lost 5 that season. 7 extra points would have had us finishing 3rd, a point off 2nd place.
