A fee has been agreed between Blues and Newcastle for the 26-year-old striker but the hamstring problem became apparent when the player underwent a medical. Ameobi sustained the injury during pre-season and Town's stringent medical showed that his hamstring has not completely healed. He is unlikely to be fit before the end of the August transfer window so Blues are now exploring other options with Newcastle regarding the former England U21 international.
