One swallow doesn't make a summer. Beye has to come back in. I agree, but credit where credit is due (even if it is about 4 years too late)

A group of MPs has called on football clubs to cut the number of foreign players in the English game. They want the government and football authorities to discourage clubs from recruiting so many overseas players. A Commons motion, led by Liberal Democrat MP for Colchester Bob Russell, has been signed by 23 MPs who believe British players are being held back. However, Conservative MEP Chris Heaton-Harris said the idea would breach employment legislation. National team The MPs' Early Day Motion raises concern at the increase in the number of overseas footballers playing in the Premier League and the Football League. It is perfectly reasonable to ask clubs to have at least three UK-born players on the park at any one time Alan Simpson MP It says in the Premier League's first year in 1992 there were 11 foreign players, compared to the current figure of 331 from 66 different countries. They add that foreign players in the top flight outnumber British ones, with 60% among the Premier League's 20 clubs from overseas. The MPs believe the rise in the number of foreign players is not in the long-term interests of football in England and is harming the prospects of the national team. Talent pool Nottingham South MP Alan Simpson, who has signed the motion, said clubs should have a minimum number of British players. "It is perfectly reasonable to ask clubs to have at least three UK-born players on the park at any one time," he said. But Mr Heaton-Harris said: "There is no way sport will get an exemption from employment law." Football Association chief executive Brian Barwick said recently that he is worried about the pool of talent available to the England team. But the Premier League has said it has invested a lot of resources in developing England stars of the future.

whisper it quietly but I think Carr has looked almost like a footballer in the last couple of matches.

Agree. Apart from a shaky moment against O'Neil, he was really good, and his goal-saving clearance was breathtaking. But the media will give him little praise for it, they are too obsessed with labeling him the new Bramble/Boumsong.

He made it sound like he had some big names lined up prior to the sale of the club, when Ashley finally took over he wasn't able to bring those players in.

Lucky we didn't 'panick buy' eh? Yeah, the prospect of watching the likes of Alan Smith masquerade as footballers in a black and white shirt just thrills me...

Allardyce parted company with the Magpies in January after just eight months in charge following a poor start to the season. But Allardyce, who was appointed by former chairman Freddy Shepherd before last summer's takeover, claims he was not given the backing he had been expecting when he took the job. "I am smarting," Allardyce told Sky Sports. "I think that for me (given) the timing, and the few games I had, it was a massive shock when they said they were going to make a change. "At the start of the season we had a short window with the new owners to work with. We had not as much money as I expected. "I didn't really come for that, I came to spend big money, which is what Freddy did - he was obviously the man that employed me. "That was obviously the bottom line to make life difficult at some stage. "I explained that to the new owners and said somewhere down the line we'd get a bit of stick, and they haven't been able to withstand that by the looks of it. I'm a casualty of that. "I don't think in any way, looking back, any of that was my fault. "At the time I considered myself to have a chance but since I've left things have been said that I was never their man." Allardyce firmly believes he could have proved a successful Newcastle manager had the circumstances been different. The 53-year-old is proud of his managerial record with clubs such as Blackpool, Notts County and particularly Bolton, and hopes his ill-fated spell at St James' Park has not tarnished that. He added: "You make the right decisions by your own track record. I think I've made the right decisions over the last 16 years by the clubs I've been at, building my reputation. "That's the disappointing thing for me. I hope it hasn't damaged my reputation."

I feel relieved rather than disapointed, we could easily have lost that, but due to the referee due as much to the oposition, you get the feeling he ruled out their late goal to atone for his fuck up with our goal at the begning, their equaliser was offside in my opinon, a frustrating game with some frustrating performances that make the lack of investiment in players in January all the more mind-boggling.

Lost is like Marmite, you either love it or hate it, I love it, but I am sure they are making it up as they go along, but I still find it enjoyable, it might be worth watching the recap episode rather than watching all the episodes you've missed.

Too much at stake to persevere with Smith ? Or play Viduka and Martins? Was thinking about today more than anything, I wish Martins was back, I'm not convinced Viduka offers much more than Smith, of course Viduka is more likely to score but given Viduka's lack of mobility and work ethic, is he much better ?

I'd rather see Carroll given his chance rather than see Smith flounce around like a tart or Viduka labour around the pitch like a pensioner in Lidl's.

Highly rated by some but is infact shite ?

There's just nobody out there[/keegan] No one who can considerably strengthen the team and we could realistically hope to get, no. No better than Viduka, Smith, Shola, Carroll, yeah ok.... You'd want to spend a considerable amount of money on another 'little' striker when we have Owen and Martins? Fair enough. *glances at the league table* yes I would ! -
is that the new Fulham shirt ?
