Allardyce on Setanta says Dyer will sign for West Ham tomorrow, and will be replaced.

Under rated in my opinion.

Mayweather on points for me, but you never know, no one gave Lloyd Honeyghan a chance against Don Curry, but he shocked the world, lets hope Ricky can do the same.

The "super-fight" between Ricky Hatton and Floyd Mayweather will go ahead on 8 December after contracts were signed, according to Hatton's father Ray. Hatton, who will step up a division from light welterweight for the fight, will receive a career-best purse. "The contract provided what we wanted and we are officially signed up," said Ray, "and our lawyers have told us that the Mayweather camp have also signed. "Now we are just waiting for the date and venue to be made official." The MGM Grand in Las Vegas is favourite to host the contest, where Hatton could expect a travelling support in excess of the 10,000 who saw him beat Jose Luis Castillo in the city in June. Mayweather came out of a short-lived retirement to take the fight, and has already begun the hype. He said: "I don't know who is the pound-for-pound number two in the world, but there is no fighter in the world like me. "Hatton is in for a rude awakening when we meet and he is in for a shock if he thinks I'm like any fighter he has ever faced. I'm in the business of blood, sweat and tears." However, Hatton's trainer Billy Graham says his fighter will have no difficulties in moving up from his natural division, despite struggling to victory in his only fight at that weight of his career against Luis Collazo. "The fight against Collazo was taken reluctantly and without proper time to prepare," Graham told BBC Sport, "but this time we have plenty of notice. "We will do things differently, have a lot more time to get it right, and it won't be a problem at all. "Ricky set out to be the undisputed champion of the world and he did that, and did it against a living legend in Kostya Tszyu. "But this fight, between the best pound-for-pound fighters out there who are both at their peak, is the ultimate fight in boxing." The welterweight division requires fighters to weigh in between 141 and 147 lbs, while the light welterweight classification is 136 to 140 lbs. Hatton has fought in the welterweight division on numerous occasions, but his last two fights - against Juan Urango and Jose Luis Castillo - have both been at the lighter weight. Mayweather has also fought at different weights, stepping up to light middleweight for his most recent bout against Oscar de la Hoya. "I've always said Ricky wasn't a welterweight and I wasn't interested in going back up to that division unless it was [against] Floyd because he's not such a big guy," added Graham. "I don't think Floyd's any bigger than Ricky, whereas a lot of the welterweights are." Hatton has admitted that a fight with Mayweather would be the highlight of his glittering career. Floyd is a great fighter but if he thinks I'm going to turn up and just lie back and take what he has got to dish out then he has got another thing coming Ricky Hatton "Just getting in the ring with him will be the greatest day of my life, other than when my son was born," Hatton told the Daily Express last week. "Floyd is the one I want more than anybody else. "Floyd is a great fighter but if he thinks I'm going to turn up and just lie back and take what he has got to dish out then he has got another thing coming." Meanwhile, Mayweather's adviser Leonard Ellerbe said Hatton deserved praise for taking the fight. "I never thought he would do it, but Ricky Hatton deserves credit for stepping up to the plate," he told USA Today. "He asked for it and now he's going to get it. Floyd is extremely excited. He wants to show Hatton that he's never fought at this level before. "He's going to show him what it's like to step in the ring with the best fighter." De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions is understood to be taking charge of the arrangements.

Newcastle United have opened contract negotiations with Obafemi Martins, a move that Sam Allardyce hopes will lessen the uncertainty that has gripped St James’ Park this summer. The manager’s rebuilding plans have not only been hampered by the club’s change of ownership, but also by the existence of release clauses in the deals that brought Martins and Michael Owen to Tyneside. Martins confirmed yesterday that discussions have begun on reviewing a contract that still has four years to run. As part of the £10 million transfer that took the Nigeria international to Newcastle from Inter Milan last August, a £13 million escape clause was written into the small print; the fee required to activate it reduces during every subsequent transfer window. Much to Allardyce’s frustration, a similar scenario affects Owen’s £110,000-a-week deal, although his £9 million get-out clause is understood to have closed on June 30. That still allowed speculation that the England striker would leave for Manchester United or Liverpool, while Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, is a known admirer of Martins. Newcastle are said to be prepared to increase Martins’ £60,000 weekly wage in return for him ignoring those clauses. “We are talking, that is all I can say for now,” the forward said. Martins is relishing the increased competition at Newcastle following the arrival of Mark Viduka. “I scored 17 goals last season, so maybe I should be looking at doing better than that,” he said. “Twenty goals is possible.” Newcastle have also been given permission by Manchester United to discuss a £6 million deal with Alan Smith, a move that would probably allow Kieron Dyer to join West Ham United. Middlesbrough and Sunderland have made similar bids for Smith.

SAM Allardyce says that he is very close to finalising a deal to bring a new player to Newcastle United. The Toon boss has already added Mark Viduka, Joey Barton, David Rozehnal and Geremi to the Magpie ranks this summer. But, having admitted that things have not moved as quickly as he would've liked in recent weeks, Big Sam says he is confident that at least one new face is just around the corner. "We haven't quite finished one off yet and I'm very confident that in the near future we'll be picking up one or two players," said the former Bolton boss. "From top to bottom we are all out trying to secure players. "It's a difficult market to work in and we don't want to panic, we want to make sure that when a player comes in he's going to be extremely good. "The defenders here have done exceptionally well in the last two games, but that is the area we are concentrating. "I hope the chase doesn't go until the end of August but as long as we get them in that's the most important thing."

Fucking love that film.

Sam Allardyce has expressed growing frustration at the dearth of transfer activity at St James’ Park, but the logjam may have been broken by Manchester United’s acceptance of a £6 million bid for Alan Smith. If Newcastle United’s pursuit of the England player is fruitful, it should finally prompt the departure of Kieron Dyer, whose position on Tyneside is close to untenable. Allardyce yesterday held discussions with Chris Mort, his new chairman, to clear the air on various issues, not least his disquiet at the paucity of his first-team squad. Signing defenders is a priority – he wants Boukary Dramé, Paris Saint-Germain’s 22-year-old Senegal international, to fill the problematic left-back role and also needs at least one experienced centre half – but his move for Smith points to renewed activity. Newcastle have matched Middlesbrough’s offer for the striker, although they still face competition from Manchester City and, more significantly, Everton, whose pursuit is dependent on James Beattie joining Sheffield United. With Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins, Mark Viduka, Shola Ameobi and Andy Carroll on the club’s books, Allardyce already enjoys a surfeit of forwards. Yet Smith’s versatility allowed him briefly to be reinvented as a midfield player at Old Trafford and if Dyer is sold, Newcastle’s options there would be weakened. The latter has informed Allardyce that he wishes to leave Newcastle for “family reasons” – his partner and children live in Ipswich – and after Sunday’s substitute appearance in the 2-0 victory over Juventus, he was abused by a number of supporters. As Dyer left the stadium, a group of youngsters converged on his car, beat their hands on the windows and told him to “f*** off down to London”. While the incident involved a small vocal presence, it left the 28-year-old shaken; along with the player himself, many fans have accepted that his long, fraught spell on Tyneside has drawn to a natural conclusion. Tottenham Hotspur and City have an interest in Dyer, but Upton Park remains his most likely destination. Unperturbed by the prospect of paying high wages – Dyer earns in excess of £80,000 a week – the East London club are confessed admirers, which they have now converted into firm contact. At present, however, stalemate rules and it may do so until Smith’s future is resolved. Whether they have submitted a written offer is unclear, but West Ham have informed Newcastle that they are prepared to pay as much as £5.5 million for Dyer, with an additional £1.5 million based on appearances and if Alan Curbishley’s side qualify for Europe. In spite of Dyer’s long history of injury and illness, this is yet to meet with Newcastle’s approval. Time is pressing, however, and Allardyce has expressed anxiety with the slow pace of change after Mike Ashley’s £133 million takeover. The talks between Allardyce and Mort were designed to expedite matters, as well as clarify recent reports that Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer would be invited to renew their ties with Newcastle. Neither prospect is acceptable to Allardyce, although Shearer already fulfils an ambassadorial role for the club. If his threadbare squad is causing concern, Allardyce is ecstatic with the impact made by James Milner, who almost joined Aston Villa a year ago. “I think he’s one of the best young wingers in the Premiership,” Allardyce said. “Steve McClaren [the England head coach] has been looking for a replacement down the left side, where England appear to have been short, and if James continues to progress, he could be very useful.”

I just came in here to say "fuck all" too. Sorry Mr. Face. Wasn't going to say owt, but everyone should count what blessings they have. I know this is meant to be a positive thread but my brothers 29 year old partner passed away today. 4 months after the birth of their son. Totally gutted. The Happy Face is stuggling to stay that way. She had a serious Brain tumour last year, beat it, had the most gorgeous bairn and then succumbed to bowel cancer. 29 is no age. That is truly tragic news
