Skysports.com understand Middlesbrough have won the race to sign Jonathan Woodgate. It is believed that the Real Madrid defender is currently undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough after opting to make the move to Teesside. Real are willing to loan out the former Leeds and Newcastle defender so that he can get valuable first team action under his belt. Woodgate held talks with Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate on Monday about a possible move to The Riverside. Newcastle, Valencia, Villarreal and Portsmouth all expressed an interest in his services, but Woodgate is believed to have decided to make the move to Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough have agreed a season-long loan deal with Real for Woodgate with the possible option of a permanent move. Should Woodgate successfully come through his medical the move should be tied up in the next few days before the close of the transfer window. Woodgate's arrival at Middlesbrough would come as a massive boost to Southgate as he has been chasing a new defender all summer and the England international would ably fill the void left by Southgate's move into the manager's seat at The Riverside.

It sounds nuts, they were talking about this on Talksport this morning, a rangers fan rang in saying he was at the match in question and said that Boruc had done it facing the rangers fans behind his goal, and done it as theatrically as possible, gesturing "come on" to the fans before doing it with a huge grin on his face. I've not time for the sectarian horseshit of the auld firm but lets face it, it could easily have been done to wind up the opposing fans.

I disagree, I think most Newcastle fans would agree that Woodgate, when fit, is the best defender the club has ever had.
