Boum set to join Juventus in £4.5m deal Aug 21 2006 By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle Jean Alain Boumsong was in Turin today, hoping to complete a £4.5m transfer to Juventus. The Newcastle United defender travelled to Italy last night for a medical after earlier in the day training with the rest of Glenn Roeder's first-team squad and then turning down a move to Bundesliga outfit Hamburg. And having gone this far it seems a good bet that Boumsong will join Juventus who, of course, were relegated to Serie B after a match fixing scandal. If he does move it will be a permanent transfer, leaving Freddy Shepherd and Glenn Roeder to reflect on the fact that they did well to keep their nerve and reject overtures from French clubs Lens, Monaco, Bordeaux and Marseille who only wanted to take the 26-year-old defender on a 12-month loan with United also picking up half of his monthly wages of e200,000. Roeder made it clear just where Boumsong stands in the pecking order when the man Graeme Souness handed £8.5m to Rangers for could not even get onto the substitutes bench for Saturday's Premiership opener with Wigan Athletic at St James' Park. Indeed Boumsong's last start was in the defeat at Charlton Athletic in March and since then United have won nine and drawn two of the 11 competitive games they have played. Meanwhile, United fans woke up yesterday morning to headlines saying that Arsenal had offered Ashley Cole to them to prevent the England left back going to Chelsea. But even bearing in mind Cole's new wife Cheryl Tweedy is a Geordie girl and proud of it, there is absolutely no chance of Cole ending up at St James' Park. Roeder told me today: "I am afraid this is all fantasy island stuff and we definitely have not heard anything from Arsenal about this." What Roeder wants to hear is that Cole has completed his move to Stamford Bridge so that he can get another England left back Wayne Bridge who played in Chelsea's win over Manchester City up to St James' Park before the transfer window closes a week on Thursday.
  3. Toon fail to Klose deal Aug 21 2006 By Alan Oliver, The Evening Chronicle Werder Bremen have told Newcastle United to forget all about signing their German inter-national Miroslav Klose. And now United will concentrate all their efforts in bringing Inter Milan's Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins to St James' Park. But reports that United have agreed a fee with Inter for Martins, or with Real Madrid for Thomas Gravesen, are premature at the moment. Roeder was reluctant to talk about transfer news today because he accepts that he could be repeating himself and that the United supporters want action and not words. However, he did tell me: "At this moment nothing is agreed with any club as far as any incoming transfers are concerned. "But there are a lot of on-going things happening behind the scenes, and just because we got three points against Wigan Athletic on Saturday we are not sitting with our feet up. "We have three or four balls up in the air, and everyone from the chairman down is working hard to bring those balls down." Roeder, Freddy Shepherd and chief operating officer Russell Cushing were all at St James' Park at 9am yesterday and did not leave until tea-time. Fans will have noticed that there has not been an official team picture taken by United, even though the season has now started, because they are waiting for the new arrivals. The Chronicle revealed on Friday night that Roeder's No 2 Kevin Bond saw Klose score twice for Germany against Sweden on Wednesday night to go with the five he grabbed in the World Cup which made him the competition's top scorer. But Roeder told me: "Werder Bremen are in the Champions League again this season and they have made it clear that Klose is not for sale." As it happens, Martins is surplus to requirements at the San Siro, but United are taking claims that Inter want £20m for him with the proverbial pinch of salt. The Chronicle's story last week that United were concerned about the true age of Martins went round the football world. But really it surely doesn't matter whether Martins is 21 or 28 because he is proven goalscorer and regarded as one of the fastest strikers in Europe. However, what does matter on this score is the price, and Shepherd will be locked in talks with the Italians, probably for the next couple of days.

Would probably be in a mess, but alive, but in jeans, t-shirt and trainers you'd probably be a red streak down the middle of the road.

Fucking hell Craig, sorry you had to go through that, but I totally echo your comments on climbing on a bike, especially on the back, a friend of mine lost his wife due to riding pillion on a motorbike. Decapitated, only 28, only blessing is she probably died instantly.
  10. cheeky fucker...... ...of course not.
  11. Totally agree, he's got a cracking shot on him and his pace and his ability to run past players would make him a great striker in my opinion, well worth a try if Shola isn't fit.

Agreed, lets not forget he looked class for Auxerre and Rangers, Italian football might bring the best out of him, might be worth slipping in a sell on fee clause.
  14. What a terrible thing to witness, poor little lad too, the bloke must have either been a real twisted fuck or genuinely disturbed, I bet he's in a world of regret now.

Not a great price for Boumsong, but lets face it, its about all he's worth !! The only person to blame is Souness. Better to get £2.5m than to let him rot in the reserves, he must be on a good £40k a week at least, better to get rid than waste that kind of money.
  17. I must be so accustomed to it, I didn't even notice !
  18. I still honestly think if given the oportunity, Luque can do a job for us up front.
  19. If he doesn't want Luque cup-tied he has little choice, or maybe bringing in O'Brien.
  20. Unless Luque is a make-weight in a striker deal this week, we might desperatly need Luque if Shola doesn't make it for this weeks games.
