Reasoning behind supporting Newcastle United.
DragonFilet replied to south_cheshire_toon's topic in Newcastle Forum
How Long? Just about 1 year! Better late than never, I suppose. Why the Toon? After last World Cup, which I followed quite avidly, I decided that I was to addicted to footy to stop watching for another 4 years. Problem was, I didn't have a team to support. There was no way in hell I was going to follow a top 4 team, because I'm not a sellout, but that left 16 teams to choose from. It just so happens that Jon (as in, the one who posted above) messaged me one day, and told me about this team called Newcastle. Followed them pretty steadily, and became a fan for life when a certain Cheik Tiote tied Arsenal. Location? Currently in St. Petersburg Russia (I like to think that I'm a one man fanclub here --- the toon red army), but I live in NY and study in Philly Toon Games? Someday! Next time i'm in the UK, i plan on making a point of it. Where we've been/are going? I became a fan post-relegation, so, as for where we have been, I missed a lot of that. Last season had it's fair share of disappointments, but I'm a lot more optimistic this season than last. Pardew has grown on me, but I still have a pretty strong grudge against MA. I'd have less of one if he made clear what his plans were earlier, instead of leaving the fans in the dark and selling our best players. As for this season, I say i'd say a top 10 finish is definitely possible, and maybe Europe (not the CL) if we bring in some reinforcements this winter. Oh, and Cabaye is hot. -
Is Krul one of the best keepers in the league?

He's also a number of years away from his peak, so yeah, for now he's probably not as good. -
He is as attractive as his game.

Davide Santon signs a 5 year deal with Newcastle United
DragonFilet replied to Christmas Tree 's topic in Newcastle Forum
It'd be great if he could play striker too. -
Yeah, at this point I basically have a mancrush. At this rate, he's gonna score soon!
-
And don't discount our £20M free signing Demba Ba, who thus far looks worth every penny. Well he has been so fucking poor so far he can only get better. He's still better than Perch! Don't forget that Ba has yet to achieve a scoring record as a Newcastle player of -1.

Not many have mentioned him, but Timmy put on a world-class performance today, IMO. That save he made while diving the wrong way was unbelievable.

We're playing long balls as if Carroll is still up front to win all of them... That won't work anymore. With our midfield strength (which hasn't been visible this match) we need to be playing a possession game.
-
Who's that just to the right of Saylor? reported. I'd like to see the Dude Abeid get played -- if he had such a canny preseason, perhaps worth it as a sub? Also, how about Vuckic can do in a second striker role as opposed to in the midfield?
-
Oh shit, you mean we signed him too? I wonder how he'll link up with Cabaye...

Lyon president confirms £6.6million bid for Cissokho rejected

I thought that the "a L'OL" was the president's reaction to our bid... -
12 days to get a left back and striker in
DragonFilet replied to Holden McGroin's topic in Newcastle Forum
I'm actually not particularly worried about our midfield, as much as I like Joey. -
Credit to Ashley though, missing both a left back AND a right back would add some balance to our defensive line!
-
any chance Ashley starts spending after we lose tomorrow?
-
In five years, we'll be a force to be reckoned with in League 1...

I honestly don't blame the man - he's probably just as frustrated by the administration as we all are. -
Sunderland v Newcastle 20/08/2011 prediction
DragonFilet replied to I ♥ Daddys Cock's topic in Newcastle Forum
Funny, i said that on page three but have since been well informed by smarter football folk that because Arsenal didnt score past us no lesser team will The Mackems played far better than Arsenal last weekend... -
Be interesting to see if one of the local lads would ask Rapey this at the next press conference. I won't hold my breath. At least Ferguson will be fit on saturday... ugh.
-
those videos from the first link seem to show that he's fairly canny in front of goal. at this point, if they are faster than ameobi, aren't Cole, and can kick a ball in the direction of the goal, i'd take them.

French striker for apparently begging to be allowed to negotiate with newcastle: http://inbedwithmaradona.com/video/2011/8/...dibo-maiga.html http://www.nufcblog.com/2011/08/15/souchau...join-newcastle/ Apparently he's on strike as a result of this link with us.

I'd agree with you to cut the debate short, but then we'd both be wrong. -

If the preseason has taught us anything, it's that he absolutely deserves one. Perhaps there's a number that comes after "8" in his future. -
are you suggesting we've deliberatley gone after a player who has recently had a family member die so we can postpone a payout til the window closes? I'm suggesting that it's pretty stupid to have sold our only viable LB a mere 2 days before our opening match, without securing a replacement first.
