This is a weird thing to say, not gonna lie

I do once remember CT advising me that if the country ever got into a financial position whereby people on the breadline were truly in trouble, he'd let me know. And that otherwise I shouldn't worry about it
-
You can't shame me with such toxic masculinity driven insults
-
I wouldn't disagree with all of them, some are old as fuck. "Stone throwing devils" is one I struggled with until a friend mentioned that this is actually an Islamic cultural thing with some kind of wall somewhere so... yeah that actually is racist. Severely racist. Can't get on board with the board sweeps being racist though.
-
I wish Yes I guess for the uninitiated that post would be a challenging one.
-
You're better off that way tbh. It's just a card game that has 5 colours representing different factions. On certain cards, certain commands are now racist. Intriguingly they're not racist everywhere, just on cards that you could, if you swapped the meaning of 'faction' with that of 'race', claim were advocating a genocide of black people. Cards that do the same the other way around are apparently fine. Cards which have negative, colour based targeting but which don't destroy things are... fine. I actually now believed WotC, the guys who make it, are racist as fuck. You'd actually have to be in order to think of half of the things they've banned as racist.
-
The government is going to have to spend. Keynesian style.
-
Magic the gathering has started banning cards "Destroy all non-white creatures" is now gone. "Destroy all black creatures" is gone. These are factions ffs. There are black and white people in each faction. Creatures is not the same as 'race'. Honestly I find this particular development so absurd it's funny. It'll completely break the game though.

It's an ideological argument. Seriously, this is the left, it shouldn't be news to you that it's tearing itself apart over an interpretation of something.
-
If the facts show that, then biological women who oppose it are being transphobic. Not sure there can be any argument on that if actual evidence supports it.
-
These are people who see the world in terms of where we all fall with respect of privilege, and any disagreement is immediately hateful. This is not normal for left wingers. I remain, last I checked, a 'far left radical' </CT>, but I'm open to at least letting people work through in their heads how they feel about something without shouting and screaming at them. It's not dialogue, it's just intolerance.
-
You're heavily into Jordan Peterson territory here, I would watch yourself or there'll be a public outcry culminating in the BBC sacking you
-
Fucking Wow. You could be forgiven for thinking that these were the hatetrolls from the far right tbh.
-
The 'left wing' Twitter contingent were saying things like that..??

Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists vs Trans people. Gist is that TERFs believe that the lived experience of people who are born as women is profoundly different from those who are born male and then come to identify as women later in life. Any of the gender specific benefits feminism wins for women are then theoretically open to any man who declares himself a women; and since we have no minimum standard for that beyond acknowledging whatever the individual says, it's problematic. It's not something anyone who isn't heavily into feminist ideology should worry about but ultimately the SJWs are on the side of trans people, and the radical feminists are finding that they've become the victims of the desire for ongoing progress. They're now the crusty old gammons in the left wing movement. This is all just from what I've seen anyway.

I'm just being inclusive

For PL to be right you have to effectively acknowledge that the government are completely incompetent and not fit for purpose, and that we should all behave responsibly despite them. Which is very reasonable. Renton is of course arguing that once the government flout the rules or move them around, the public can't be blamed for following suit. Which is also an understandable position. In the end, I agree with Renton because his interpretation is most harmful to the Tories, and has the possibility of forcing better behaviour from them if we go into a second lockdown. And also because the horse has bolted now and PL's interpretation, with the horse having bolted, gives the government some political capital to explain away a second lockdown (and I am very aware that it is not his intent to give them this). So in reality, PL is right. They should and most likely do know better. In Tory UK in 2020 however, we need Renton to be right.

Is Johnson doing any better now he has his mob of braying MPs behind him?
-
Both posts true. This genuinely is a consequence of a total absence of leadership, and a breakdown of social trust not only between people and institutions, but between institutions and government. The Tories have been such an unmitigated disaster on so many fronts that it is simply astounding.

This particular wing of the left is the one that the culture warriors on the right use to discredit the rest of us. So you're right. Having said that, these guys are the first left wingers to land some actual blows on the right for quite some time now so I'm having a hard time not enjoying it on some level. What I find remarkable about this with statues coming down, TV shows being cancelled etc, is that it appears to be happening with no due process. The seas are just parting before the protesters. The implication of this is that the police and the government are running scared, that the BBC knew Little Britain was racist but we're only prepared to do something about it if 1m people started protesting through cities, that Sadiq Kahn needed widespread protests to awaken himself to the notion that statues in London needed review, etc. Now from the protesters POV it's a total win. From society's its a complete mess IMO. We can't have such flimsy governmental and institutional structures that they yield the first time a big protest comes onto the scene. They should have procedures in place to correct for this stuff through proper channels. And if they don't do it, we have to accept that this is the outcome dictated by the society we live in. Not taking action until a mass protest is carried out just makes them look weak as shit. I saw police running from collections of white 20 year olds throwing bottles and shit at them yesterday. What the fuck is the point in them then. We're seeing a mass discrediting of a number of institutions and I don't remotely understand how they've allowed themselves to get to this point. Why is it just now news to them that black people are angry? It's not. It's been news for fucking decades.
-
Is this their lowest league finish ever? This is literally the most shit they've ever been in over 100 years.
-
I googled Grey's Monument yesterday because I was concerned and saw that indeed, the guy was PM when slavery was abolished. As such, I thought it would be safe. Alas not It may be insensitive of me but i hope they don't pull that one down, it's iconic for my youth. I've met friends at it for about 20 years.

I'm just going to be quiet now.

I can't see that comment from KCG anymore for some reason. But I think you can be free to comment on anything based on the knowledge you have. I made an initial post about what was happening from the news, then made very lukewarm support for them continuing to tear statues down, which was based on my yearning for values to be consistently applied - and I think the protesters would support that in full tbh. Beyond that, I'm not here defending the Empire, the statues, or even advocating for anything other than consistency. I don't feel that my lack of knowledge about who Cecil Rhodes was, should preclude me from making a post stating that some protesters are going to pull the statue down. I just want to be clear on that, as much as I accept the point he's made (which I can't see).
-
It should. I mean history for me skipped from 1650 to 1900. And from 1900 on, there was basically no mention whatsoever of Empire.
