1. I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you are talking about final league position, then I would say, considering the money he has spent, 4th place or higher must be achieved. I'll be amazed if that happens like. 35110 Substitute "amazed" for gutted. 35151 Gemmill, to be honest all that deserve is a FUCK OFF. I want the best for NUFC the same as everyone else, I just don't rate this manager like you do. You have now really, really pissed me off. 35176 You running yet Gemmill?? 35214 Ha ha, hilarious. Yes I'm pissed off. I thought I could come on here and have a sensible discussion about NUFC, but instead get childish insults because Souness has managed to fluke one game. I thought Gemmill might be above that tbh.
2. Christ, some of you people have good memories, how many of my ludicrous opinions are going to come back and bite me in the arse when I don't even remember saying them? Acceptable? Top 6 and a cup (I subscribe to the propaganda!) but we need to be challenging for the 4th spot right to the end. 35184 If Souness wins a cup (and I think he just might) he will become a legend by virtue of the fact that noone else has managed it in nearly 40 years. Acceptable for me would be a top 6 finish. The season after that, top 4. 35188 No way will Souness be here next season, even if he did what you said. He's going to find it very hard to even win a cup - we're out of the UEFA cup already, which was our best chance. With Chelsea seemingly having the league sown up already, the other big clubs will take the domestic cups more seriously. We are not good enough to beat Arsenal, ManU, or Chelsea, and would struggle against half a dozen lesser teams. 35193 So, last season he doesn't win anything and gives us our lowest league finish in the Premier League but he gets money to spend and doesn't get the sack off Shepherd. But, if he does win something this season and finishes top 6, he will get the sack next summer? 35209 I think his successor has already been planned for Alex. Top six is worse than under Robson. I suppose things could change in the highly unlikely event of a cup win, but personally I doubt it. I think Shepherd must be able to see our coaching etc, etc, isn't up to scratch. Also, how long has he got on his contract> Has it been extended?

4. What about, Down in the Tubestation at Midnight - The Jam? 'I first felt a fist and then a kick, I could now smell their breath. They smelt of pubs, and Wormword scrubs and too many right-wing meetings.' 35185 Class!

6. There are good areas though, where there is a more relaxed atmosphere. Sadly, these seem to be disappearing at an alarming rate - witness the demise of Jesmond.
7. Just my experience, though to be fair, in London, it's easier to avoid the bad areas as it's so much bigger. The tube though is a relatively safe place and there are a lot of staff. Still, the point about brawling IS true. It seems much more likely in Newcastle than out and about in central London. 35106 Well, you should have said Central London then shouldn't you 35118 Ok, fair point! BUT, if you include the outskirts of Newcastle, I think the picture gets even worse... Maybe it's familiarity but feck, there are places in Newcastle that make me want my mummy. 35156 I think that Kaiser Chiefs song sums it up perfectly - Saturday night. To be honest, I hate to agree with AF, but I think he's got a point. Newcastle is going right down hill, it's focusing on drink far too much. The result? Pissed up hen parties, charvers, psychos and lunatics. I like a drink as much as the next man, but it has got way out of control and I don't blame people being frightened about it. As for the metro compared to the underground, it is far, far worse. I'm not just talking about my Friday night experience, I have witnessed violence on it on dozens of occasions, it's a nightmare. I challenge anyone to get the metro to the coast on a saturday night completley sober and not shit themselves. So, I think it is a sad but fair comment to say Newcastle is one of the most violent cities in the UK, and is sadly going downhill. Something really needs to be done about it.
8. So Shepherd's son is a mackem, then? Seriously, you have to feel sorry for the poor sod. It can't be easy looking like that.

10. Oh ffs. Jesus wept. It proves absolutely nothing man! Edit: Oh yeah, everyone who saw it on Sky would have seen it, obviously. 34943 Pathetic but by no means unexpected response from Renton to a good deed from Souness. 35021 Seeing as he couldn't have a go at Souness for the result or the performance he needed to have a go for something 35028 You're wrong about not having a go at the performance - personally I thought it was shit. And Gemmill, read my reply, I'm not knocking the bloke, but I really think his actions are to be expected. A lot of us help out with charitys and stuff without expecting to get threads about how nice a person we are. I mentioned I was being petty about the after match talk, but I'm just being curious, that's all. His assistant said he didn't have time to give one when we won, which struck me as a bit odd, that's all. So once again I am not having a dig, I just can't see what the fuss was about.
11. There's a story in Trainspotting called "her man" which describes that scenario perfectly. And Alex, I hear what you are saying, but how can you ignore a full scale fight like this, are you expected to sit and do nothing while someone is getting brayed? Anyway, I've decided to use cars and taxis from now on, and told Nexus they can stick their poxy metro until they get decent security on it.
12. This is [city] now a crucial match. Win this, and he gets more time. Draw - he's in limbo. Lose and the knives are out again. After city the matches are quite easy on paper - we have to pick up a lot of points in this period. I doubt we will get enough for Europe however.
13. Of all the footballers I've met, Keegan was something special. This was during his hay day (as manager) when he was full of optimism and had something about him - he could give a truely inspirational talk to a group of strangers off the cuff. Of course I'm not knocking Souness for hs actions here - but neither will I give him credit - to me this is part of his job. And to be petty - I admit - I can't understand why he personally has to deliver shirts when apparently he hasn't got time to do an after match talk.
14. Let's smoke her out and kill her tbh.

16. Souness didn't do a lot wrong for me today regarding his team selection, tactics, and substitutions with a very depleted squad (something I partly blame him for, mind). However, we were still desperately poor most the game and this was ONE match. I judge him on what he has done for us in total so far, and also to a lesser extent on what he has done at other clubs. And the bigger picture is, he has done a very poor job overall - I don't see how anyone can deny this. So yes, he gets a modicum of credit. Which is hugley outweighed by all the crap things he has done. I'd still sack him - my patience ran out long ago.
17. Yes Gemmill, the performance is the most significant thing in a league game, because this is the best indicator of how good we are. I can remember us having several bad results under Robson at the start of the season we came 3rd, but I wasn't concerned a bit because I could see we were a good team. It's a marathon not a sprint after all *insert other cliches here*. Trust you not to understand this, the Mr McKay voice really suits you! 34827 Glad you like it. The Grim Reaper costume looks good on you too. 34830 Thanks, it a designer fit. But seriously, do you mainly judge games by results or performances? It's an interesting question and might go some way to explaining why we rarely agree with each other. I'm also curious to understand how a person who purely looks at a match in terms of goals scored/conceded can argue with Roberts's statistical contribution? (Joke, I don't want to go there again!) 34832 Of course I consider the performance when I watch a match. Look at the match thread, I was going on about how woeful it was all the way through the first half. But we are a team desperately low on confidence, and once the goals went in you could see that coming back. And if we win an away game 3-0 and I can see the goals bringing some confidence back to the team, then I'm not going to dwell on the performance in the first half - I think that's the difference between the two of us tbh. You dwell on the negative more than I do. 34835 Maybe you're right there, but lets face it, there's been very little to be positive about since I started posting here. When we do really turn the corner - and that means a sustained run of good performances AND results, I think you'll see a different side to me. So yes, it was a great result, and there were some individual good performances. But I saw nothing that makes me think we can do anything in this league today. In fact "fluke result papers over cracks" about sums it up for me. As usual, I hope I am wrong mind.
18. Usually just the normal one in internet explorer when a page isn't available/working and occasionally just a blank white screen as if it almost worked but not quite. Then all of a sudden it'll work and be fine! 34829 Possibly just DNS errors then, I think. If it happens again just use ctrl+f5 to refresh the page, and it should sort it. 34833 When i've refreshed using the refresh icon at the top of the screen it hasn't worked, but i'll try that cheers! Like i say eventually i usually get on there, it just seemed like it might be my comp rather than the site itself. 34834 Are you sure you're not banned like?
19. Got a link? Fucking hell that's put me off doing it......

22. Agree completely PL. It was an odd game - for 60 minutes they were the better team, but basically I felt they didn't use Bellamy correctly. He only ever plays well with good support. Anyway, of course I enjoyed the goals, especially as it was Shearer, Owen and N'Zogbia who got them, but it has well and truly booked our passage into mediocrity in the long term. I always try and look at the performance over the results, and the performance today was really very poor imo. A better team would have kicked the shit out of us, that's for sure. But the next few games are easy on paper. I predict we will go on another Souness minirun, before losing heavily to the next decent team we play, when we will go on Souness mini-depression. Repeat this pattern a couple more time and voila - we finish 10th-16th. 34793 About right. Ironically Rileys obsession with booking our players (and an early one for Neill)actually stopped Blackburn playing their usual thug game as they couldn't risk it. When of course what they should have known was they would have got away with it and he'd have continued booking our players! But i'm the same as you, under the current situation the perfomance will give you the indicator if anything has improved or not, the result tells you merely that Zog scored and assisted and thew two strikers scored. If your managers is clearly talented, intelligent and overall doing a good job then results are what counts as you can be safe in the knowledge that you grind out some points but will be back to good football soon. Under this clown a fluke result or two or results down to individual players are not a good guide and the performance is. 34798 Of course, you just know people are going to insist we have turned the corner, or that we should eat humble pie after this, especially on N-O. I can't believe that anyone with a brain can take much comfort from that performance, the first half ranks as one of the worst ever. In particular, the defence looks pretty bad now, it cetainly isn't "sorted". Fair play to all the scorers though, and I must say I am finally seeing why people are putting stock in N'Zogbia. Souness will be gone sooner or later. I want sooner, but if he lasts the year, I guess I'm going to have to grit my teeth and bear another season without flair or entertainment, or silverware. We've all been there before, after all. I just hope we can keep hold of the better players for the next manager - especially Given, who saved our bacon today again.

24. Read my comment for what it is, a comment on digital camera's quality of image. Man some people! As for your second comment, yeah foreskin your computer monitor will look great hanging on the wall so you can display it because your crappy point and shot will never give you the opportunity to print anything bigger than a postcard size image. As Mr T once said, I pity the fool! 34445 I've got a Canon Ixus 400, which has 4.1 megapixels - had it for two years now and I'm still happy with it. Together with my high quality printer, I can assure you it will print perfect A4 size prints - no pixellation or blurring visible, even with a magnifying glass. Like I said this was two years ago. The present model is cheaper than when I bought it and now has a 7 megapixel array. I am sure this will be easily good enough for the vast majority of casual photographers.
