Nice one, I really enjoyed that. Quite a 'retro' sound in places. Which is probably why I liked it so much. I'll keep my eye out for them, not that I'll be going to see them live like. I fear those days are long gone

Being the adherent to esotericism that I am, I've listening to a fair bit of (mainly older) Detroit techno recently. An underrated figure from that scene, who put out numerous tracks of absolute quality over a fair few years, is Anthony 'Shake' Shakir. Here's a Youtube user-made video to accompany Fact of the Matter, released on 7th City Records in the late 90s: Check out the Fish and Chez bustin' some moves in Gotham Town from about 3:10 onwards.

I was really hoping someone would run with that one and reply with something along the lines of 'Watch him score a 30-yarder'. I'm clearly out of practice.

Saving him for the weekend tbh.

Alan Pardew - Poltroon sacked by a forrin team
Alex replied to Kid Dynamite's topic in Newcastle Forum
He absolutely loves it when there's a crisis because, due to everyone having seen through his 'look at me' act ages ago, this is the only time he gets people (other than the likes of Fish) biting.- 10610 replies

What I find ludicrous about the whole Pardew situation is that his fate seemingly rests on the Hull game now, as though that result should make a difference as to how capable he is when it comes to managing the team. I'm sure you'll agree so the supporters unfurling the banner before the match is an equally valid example of their looking at the bigger picture, no? Anyway, I think Carver knows anyone who comes in would want rid of the shitty coaching staff, which explains his reaction (not that it makes it any more acceptable or less stupid).

You're thinking of Ashley Beadle's Black Jazz Chronicles I think. That's who I assumed it was too when I first heard it, going off the name (not too dissimilar a sound either). And Ashley Beadle was involved with Black Science Orchestra too. But Black Jazz Consortium is some lad from New York (aka Fred P). http://www.discogs.com/artist/651194-Black-Jazz-Consortium I like that.

I like the new-ish (may 2013) album from Black Jazz Consortium. I suppose you'd class it as mellow deep house:

Aye, 'twas me. That's 3 ex-superstars you'll have seen there then

If Pardew doesn't get the bullet soon, the most entertaining aspect of this season will probably be Chez's attempts to defend him.- 10610 replies

Lads, how come CARR is escaping the flak and Pardew is......
Alex replied to accadacca's topic in Newcastle Forum
Btw, Carr's nearly 70, probably doing most of the European scouting on his own. When he inevitably retires due to age or whatever, I wonder what the contingency plan is (I'm guessing there isn't one). #Planning -
Fair enough, I don't think it's a particularly classy move by the club by any means and I doubt Colo thinks so either but I think the point still stands, since it's more about (I think) him not being good enough any more. I suppose we don't know what happened behind closed doors and the captain could've made noises about it and we haven't found out. I think your point about Colo being given the blame for HBA is probably a legitimate one, in that I have little doubt the story has come from an official club source and been fed to Ryder.

Sing Love Will Tear Us Apart in the style of 'The King' and you get your own one.

Sounds lovely. I think we'll definitely head back there at some point. And aye, the vino can be a bit 'variable', to be it politely You do get some canny stuff though. Actually, the wine from Santorini is excellent. That's a different island though, obviously. The olive oil in Crete is very good mind. We found it very cheap too (about 4 years ago). Found this taverna, on a campsite of all places, which was really nice and the bloke there was so friendly. I think the most we spent there was about 20 Euros for the pair of us including drinks. We ended up going back about 4 or 5 times. Have a good one.

Aye, 100% spot on that. Which is fucking depressing.

Whereabouts in Crete you off to? Only been the once (Agia Galini) but did a bit of driving around. It's a beautiful island. Would like to go on a walking holiday there at some point and do the 'Alpine' section of the E4. Not in the middle August obviously.

Even if he did have enough sway you could argue that he could have wanted Ben Arfa out of the picture but was also able to accept that his mate wasn't good enough for the first team anymore. The two positions aren't contradictory.

Alan Pardew - Poltroon sacked by a forrin team
Alex replied to Kid Dynamite's topic in Newcastle Forum
There's a narrative in the media whereby all Newcastle fans are never happy, unrealistic and demand success all the time. It's not representative of the truth but it's handy for lazy journalists and their thick as fuck audience to be able to buy into it. Pardew seems more than happy to repeat the lie (in as many words) to try and take pressure off himself.- 10610 replies

Aldi is good imo. Cheap and, in general, pretty good quality. Their booze, for example, is excellent (the really cheap stuff is shit but that's the same with every other supermarket). Pay about 5 or 6 quid for a bottle of wine there and you can pretty much guarantee it'll be pretty nice. I quite often buy their 8 year old blended Scotch too. It's about 12 or 13 pound and is much nicer than comparable products (Famous Grouse, Bell's and the like). They get some fantastic stuff in a Xmas too. Last year I got a bottle of Margaux for Xmas day, a 30 y.o. Scotch, a 15 year old rum, an 18 year old Malt and (probably the best of the lot) a 30 year old tawny Port. The fruit and veg is good too.

Nice one, I will check those mixes out. Good article as well.

Cheers everyone. 40 ffs How did that happen?
