Apparently, with Djokovic winning today, no one born after 1987 has won the Men’s Singles title at Wimbledon, The French or Australian Open. Which really does hammer home the lack of younger players threatening the old guard.

I thought they looked canny second half hitting Fulham on the break. But some of the levels of delusion on RTG are off the fucking scale. Someone on there said second half was the best football they’d ever seen, not just by Sunderland. 1st half they had 30% possession against Fulham’s second string (although they defended well) and the second period was only marginally better. I.e. they actually did what they (inaccurately) criticise us for, by sitting deep (that’s a low block to those who don’t know what that means) and looking to counter. Letting Wood go isn’t strange at all. He’s looked abysmal recently and a move suits all parties. Even on top form he would be a stop gap. If an offer comes in you have to consider it as you might not get a similar one down the road. Re: the rest I’ll make a judgement at the end of the window. Obviously in a perfect world we replace Wood with better but there’s no point in buying another stop gap. We’re nowhere near as desperate as we were 12 months ago and the last thing you want is another player who isn’t good enough to hamper us in the summer re: FFP. The other difference to 12 months ago is wages currently being close to 100% of turnover which is another big consideration.
