That's kind of what I think, I think his passion and touchline excitement takes away focus from the more pertinent questions like is he tactically astute etc. I've not seen anything that suggests he's tactically switched on, West Ham don't pay too much attention to tactics but Pardew put one over on Pearce in the Cup in that sense. He has been very fortunate at City, taking over a club whose fans were wanting to see some passion and commitment from their team after the final months of KK's reign went a bit flat for them with players like Anelka pissing off and he did take over a fairly experienced Premiership side. Like Jimbo said, he hasn't exactly improved City, he's just maintained the course they were on under KK. Mind, I'm being harsh as this is his first real season as a manager so it's too early to judge I guess but whenever I see his name linked with England and more worryingly, our club, I despair. It's the kind of appointment you feel would actually go down well with some fans *cough Craig*

Anyone had any experience with that? Or is it for plebs? Thinking of taking a look at some of their courses as my qualifications stand at GNVQ 3 in business studies and management, a health and safety certificate and a NVQ in woodwork - none of which I bothered picking up and I'm not even sure they are proper qualifications anyway. I certainly have no use for them or they haven't stood me any use, well the business studies thing helped me a bit, but overall not worth the paper they are wrote on. I'm at that stage in my life now where I'm bored and don't quite know what to do, education seems the obvious move. I have no grades whatsoever though. Advice?

What is it that makes him so special in the eyes of so many? I can't see nowt at this stage of his career that says "good manager" - or - "bags of potential". He was left a pretty decent squad by KK that had in many ways overachieved, a team with a solid enough defence and a decent enough midfield - although with limited attacking options. Furthermore he has inherited arguably the best youth-setup in the country along with Middlesbrough's. And for me, City are a poor team and haven't performed well at all this season in the main, not when you consider what Bolton, Wigan and West Ham have achieved. Yet you would think Pearce was some kind of super-manager in the making. I don't want to knock the man because I like him and I do think he could go onto make a half decent manager, but howay, talk of England, Newcastle... If we were to appoint an "unknown quantity" like Pearce, I'd far rather have Pardew who has impressed me a great deal since he took over at West Ham, he's done an amazing job and is a much better manager than Pearce at this stage of their careers.

To be fair to the lad, he has done OK this season given it's his first in the Premiership and with a new club and furthermore, he has had a stop-start type of season and he isn't exactly playing in a good side at the moment is he? He has shown the appetite, skills and work-rate to compete in this league which is a start. However in central midfield alongside Parker, that's not the best combo to take us back to the top. If we are to get the best out of Emre, I think we need to find a more suitable role, otherwise he'll become a good squad player in my eyes, nothing more. Still, early days and all that, a bit more consistency and fluency around him and he may well become a pivotal player for us.

Oliver's entitled to his opinion like but if he's writing a news piece, shouldn't he leave the opinion stuff out and just do the reporting? Again his CV is fantastic and no-one can claim he did a poor job at Liverpool, he's a good manager I guess but I just couldn't see it working. And do we really want Phil fucking Thompson at our club? *shudders* Does anyone think this 'report' is the club's way of forcing O'Neill into making a decision or to invite other managers to write in? I honestly think O'Neill will take the England job if offered, which I believe will happen. If we have to go British (sigh) then Big Sam is my number once choice. I think he's a cracking little player and has done brilliant for us this season, my player of the season behind Shay (not much competition this year mind), but I can kind of see your point the more I watch him play for us and indeed Supermac's point. I don't think Emre is the answer either. Nice and tidy players and pretty enough on the eye but we badly need some muscle, pace and atleticism in there. Someone like Diop maybe? BTW I wouldn't put our defensive woes down to Parker, I blame the flanks and the attack more than anything. We never fail to allow crosses in and up front we don't work the opposition enough so we are always stuck in midfield battles or as has been the case throughout this season, chasing shadows in defence. That said, if we had a playmaker, someone who can carry and play the ball and knit the midfield with the attack, I think you'd change your mind about Parker's importance to the side. Him and Emre in the middle will work against the Portsmouths, but not the Man Utd's, Liverpool's and Chelsea's of the world.

The bloke is so graceful. Effortless. Awesome sight seeing him nudge the ball forwards and skin two players without even breaking sweat.

Pires, he's looking for a 2 year deal at Arsenal, they don't want to commit, should we make a move for him in the summer? Good player, not sure he is the answer like but if we are looking for some goals and creativity in midfield for free, we could do a lot worse.
