Again? No class them lot, in 10 years or so of European football you can count incidents involving wor lot on one hand if that. 112635 Aye they had to send the riot police in to the crowd at half time. 112637 We shouldn't be too harsh, like another planet this Europe lark for the smoggies.

I can see your point but would tasting success our way, i.e. the hard way, not be far more, what's the word... far more special than the Chelsea way? At least under SJH/KK every inch of our meteoric rise was paid for by us lot, despite the media claiming he was our sugar daddy. At the risk of being called a sewpafan, I couldn't care less about trophies myself, it's not what I support the club for, I support the club because of the tradition and meaning. I wouldn't like some rich person to come in and wave a magic wand like at Chelsea, for me that would be false and kind of like cheating. And then there are other things. Already youngsters at Chelsea are not getting the time of day by fans because they know they can go out and buy a world-class finished product so why put in a youngster who could balls things up... they ask. One of the highlights for me this season has been watching N'Zogbia and Ramage make their breakthrough and watching them develop in front of my own two eyes makes the admission price to watch crap, worth it. I get a great deal of pleasure out of just that. The magic of our club (for me) is in our chase for that elusive trophy, that's part of the whole appeal. That struggle, that ability to fuck things up when it's easier to not fuck things up makes us special. When we choose our club's, that's what we are given and that's what we follow. Also, I still have enough faith in the game itself to believe you don't need an Amramovic to achieve things. After all, where were they when Liverpool were celebrating in Istanbul? But if we all sell out to the highest bidder, well that's not football, it's championship manager. BTW I'm not knocking you for your thoughts, I can see where you are coming from, it would be nice to have lots of cash and to win the Premiership, but I just feel it's all wrong and bad for the game.

So for you, it's all about success then? Fair enough. I want success, but not the Chelsea way, I'd rather see us flounder in mid-table watching shite every week. Canny post on RAWK from a Reds fan on their takeover/investment talks: Couldn't agree more.

Class Oh, and cheers Gemmill. Lets hope they can grab a few more then

Home or away?

Aye... now you mentioned it.

That would not surprise me, i always thought that was why Souness has been brought in. For me there was no other reason to have appointed such an inept manager other than him being told he was only being given the job to keep the seat warm for Shearer. 112588 Same here, but I don't think our next appointment will be a babysitter style appointment. I couldn't imagine O'Neill accepting that as he's very much his own man and likes to be very hands on doesn't he? And isn't the talk of a 4 year-deal? Souness had a 2 year deal with the option to extend didn't he? Anyway, back to Sima's point, apparently that's why Big Sam turned us down last time as well as others I imagine. Shearer was supposedly sat on the panel and Big Sam took offence to being questioned by a player who he would be managing. Could all be bollocks like but I've heard that a few times now and I suspect a few on here have too. 112609 eh? I said O'Neill wouldn't do that in my post. My whole point does agree with Graham's odds coming in..... 112610 Memo to self: Learn to read full posts. Ignore me, I'm new around here

Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, are we next in line for a takeover? How would such a thing sit with you guys? Would it be a case of better in than out? I'd be dead set against any kind of takeover from an Ambramovic or a Glazer type tycoon, or even a media company. I know Sony have cast eyes our way in the past as have NTL who actually bought a stake. But I fear this will happen to us given some of the pies we have or are trying to get our fingers into and this talk of summer outside investment or a financial backer concerns me. As much as I'd like to see the Halls and Shepherd's far removed from power, I'd rather have them in control milking the cow than becoming a plaything for some Tycoon or a media arm to some corporation. Ideally I'd love to see the club in the hands of a supporters trust or for the likes of FS and the Halls to step aside, keep their shares and appoint a competent board, like the Irish did at Man Utd before selling up. Or even for a Tyneside/Geordie consortium to take over. Thoughts?

Yes it is highly competitive but i would not say it is dead. Like any business, how you market yourself whether it be from advertising, marketing or PR is the key IMO to having continual success. 112602 Aye dead was perhaps the wrong word, I know people are still making good money from web design, and you're spot on about marketing and advertising. To be honest I'm bored of that game, I find the whole process a pain, been doing it for a number of years now and I've lost my motivation and creative spark, feels like any design I do today, has been done a thousand times before. That industry has slowed right down though I find. How can I compete for a job with a guy in India who can charge 100 dollars for a thousand pound job? Clients are more savvy now, you can download software that can build you a site using thousands of inbuilt templates, or you can find a template site and buy a design like that. I used to make 500 quid for a shitty 5 page website I knocked up in 3 hours or something. Now most of my work comes from repeat clients like adding a new page or adding an e-mail form or tending for the jobs no-one wants. Have my eyes on a canny one that could pay well and set me up in this content development game if I can pull it off so fingers crossed with that like. Content is huge though as that's what every site needs and the research I've done shows it to be a huge growth area and a multi-billion dollar industry already. I'd like just a small slice Anyone else self-employed on here? Anyone else involved with the web? How's your programming coming along Craig? I remember you said you were learning PHP and such.

Arsenal showed the other night you don't need A-list quality in midfield to be effective, nor height, power, pace and athleticism so lets not write Emre and Parker off too much. In Europe I think those two could more than hold their own, I mean Gilberto and Fabregas don't exactly smack of being superior to Vieira and Emerson but they certainly played like they were on Tuesday evening. I think what we need is a balance in midfield. I would keep Parker because for me, his defensive work and simplicty on the ball is a vital component for a successful side to have. Maybe there is a use for Emre, but not alongside Parker, not in the Premiership against sides like Liverpool anyway. That is where you need pace, power and energy. However, Emre in a floating role? Emre as a playmaker? Could he do that job, ala Gudjohnson at Chelsea or Rooney at Man Utd? Or is that another square peg in a round hole?

Yeah that's something I'm aware of, but I shouldn't imagine my future will ever be anything other than being self employed so I'm not too bothered about OU qualifications being taken less serious by employers than other qualifications. Barring odd jobs to keep me ticking by during no trade spells, I've been self employed since I was 16 really and it's something I love doing, being my own boss and knowing that when I wake up in the morning, I must do something to survive. My current line of work is web/graphic design/online marketing but I want to branch away from that because the game is saturised and dead IMO, for small independent designers anyway. I aim to become a content developer as there are huge growths in those markets. I'm looking for some kind of writing courses that will help me to improve in those areas. Writing for football sites or about my own club I can get away with, as well as net mags which I've wrote for in the past but I have a few exciting projects coming up of my own as well as a few offers that will require me to do lots of writing, covering all manner of topics. I would also need to become my own editor to trim overheads as they cost a few quid. I know my writing is poor, grammar, spelling, syntax, it's average to say the least so if my future is in content development, I need some help. I'll be mass producing content serving all kinds of industries, topics and such. I did a test the other day, I wrote 140 football news pieces in 8 hours, but they were very poor, something Tribal football wouldn't even put up. People in my desired industry can also write that number of pieces, but properly where they read well and above all else, sell well. That's what I want to do. The first thing I thought of is the OU. After elaborating, maybe some of you guys can perhaps give me some pointers or more rounded advice? Anything will be much appreciated. Cheers PS Dotbum, you're in this industry aren't you?

Why though? I still can't figure out his motives for buying Chelsea like. 112568 slightly more desirable location than lancashire or mersyside tbh 112571 True, but to blow close to 800m for that privilege? 112572 he's got a mansion in belgravia. it's got to beat tuebrook and new brighton... 112575 True but... Ahh, feck it, getting nowhere here

I probably work best like that, I hate lots of noise and I'm highly motivated if it's for my own benefit, although I see your point. What did you do if you don't mind me asking BTW and how does it all work? Their website is a little too vague. 112540 I was wanting to do a Business course but was told i had to do entrance module to get into it. That was my first problem as it was a social science module. You were expected to do x amount of study a week i cannot remember if was something like 15, you also had to attend a seminar/lecture type thing one evening a week. You are sent all the materials through the post and are allocated a near by tutor who you can get in contact with over the phone and thats who you send your work to and they mark it. I tried it about 8 or 9 years ago so i cannot really remember all the ins and outs of it. 112574 Cheers SM, interesting. Does sound a bit of a hassle like. I'll give them a bell.

Anyone know what happened to it? I know our good Jorman friend was leading by 84% I also think it was Oliver's job to do the write up on the results like he did with the O'Neill one 18 months ago.

I couldn't disagree more Leazes, despite knowing where you are coming from. It's US LOT THE FANS who have put the club in the position to attract big name managers, players et al, not the board. 112554 I think you are completely wrong. 52,000 fans didn't bother coming to the club before the Halls and Shepherd as I keep pointing out. 112559 And neither did the Halls and FS! If you want to be pedantic, I'd say the money we pump into the club, not them, is what pays for SJP, what pays for the Shearer's and Owen's, and their wages, what attracts managers to our club. Not FS and the Halls, if anything, they have damaged our ability to attract the very best managers, we have certainly went down hill since they took over, especially from the SJH/KK days. Imagine what type of manager we could attract today if we had just finished 5th? Or even 3rd when Sir Bobby should have went? If we are such an attractive club to manage, I'm wondering why our number one target is using us to get a better deal from the FA and why Oliver has to resort to telling lies in his paper to drum up interest? How come Graeme Souness was the only manager to accept the job 18 months ago? I mean, top 6 job in world football and all that...

They want to be the world's number one club by 2014 or something according to Kenyon. In what way, number of markets they are in? Number of transfer records broken? If I was a Chelsea fan I'd be quite sickened by the speal coming out of Kenyon's mouth, football is losing it's soul. They will never be the world's number one club because for those that matter, i.e. real fans, it's about tradition, history, success, class and prestige, something which Roman just can't buy. Should have bought Liverpool or Man Utd instead. Wonder if he's kicking himself for buying Chelsea when 12 months later Man Utd were bought out and now it appears Liverpool could follow suit. I would hate for us to be bought out like.

I actually don't think FS is the one who wants a British manager, I think it's Hall and that side of the club that want a passionate man who knows the lingo so to speak, who the fans can "identify" with.

C.V and Experience should count above all else, O'Neill has both if you take Premiership into account where as Hitzfeld also has both, but he lacks Premiership experience so I can see why we would opt for O'Neill. Plus he is represented by Proactive Sports like.

Watched a show called Scrubs the other day, found it canny funny if not a bit too slick if you know what I mean. Don't think I'll go out and buy the series.
