I thought this thread was going to be about Scousers.

HTT, can I just say in a non-patronizing way, you can be genuinely funny when you take your head out your arse. 100063 HTT will be back soon.

The second half of the Saints game and the whole of the Charlton match were very Souness-esque for me, with a tad bit more effort and lack of fear perhaps. In a way that's good, it will or should bring people back down to earth as a few were getting carried away after the Pompey and Villa wins and the last thing Roeder needs is raised expectations and any subsequent disappointments that follow when not met or maintained. To my mind the only differences from the Souness team is that we now tend to play a higher line, with more width and try to play the ball on the deck a lot more, but other than that it's still a disjointed mess for me. The back-four are still all over the place at times, we still look toothless up top (although Shearer's absence is a major factor behind that) and in midfield, we still struggle to assert ourselves enough. No blame can be laid at Roeder's feet however and it would be pathetic if that were to happen, regardless of results as there ain't a lot he can do. No, the 3 wins and 1 draw aren't a result of major changes or because Roeder is a much better manager than Souness, but more down to a new face, a new voice, fresh ideas and the negative influence that was Souness and the cloud that followed him having been removed. For me anyway.

It's an odd one like. Me? The last thing I'd be thinking about is football and if I was a manager and my player came to me with the kind of personal problems Boumsong has, I'd say go home, take all the time you need. But perhaps football is helping him to cope? Either way fair play to the lad. He's been poor this season and has had a lot of criticism from Toon fans and the media but I still have high hopes for him under a decent manager who knows how to organise a back-four properly.

Solano's been our best player since Souness left for me. Bit OTT regarding the coaching comments though.

This could just well swing it lads. -
He had a canny game last night, especially in the second half. Some decent blocks and interceptions. Steadily improving.

I can't remember to be honest, it was that long ago, I probably did say I was closing the main site, I might have even said I was closing the whole thing, I do remember asking anyone if they fancied taking it over and I got a few replies. And it wasn't because of the Hitzfeld thing, I wasn't even part of that, I just jumped on the bandwagon. Members wanted Hitzfeld, I just stuck a thing up on the home page, I wanted O'Neill but when I read about Hitzfeld I thought, he'd be canny. But I wasn't that fussed either way. Anyway, who cares...

Where did I get that info from then, I was sure it was directly from the horse's mouth...oh wait, I understand now. 92418 The forum got shut down because the host got itchy about the fact that fixtures were posted, however the accompanying site was removed (or threatened to be removed) by his highness purely on account of the fact Hitzfeld didn't get the job... He did some mahoosive list about how the club was rotten to the core and that Paul Stretford and Alan Oliver had offices at SJP and that he wasn't going to waste his efforts any more.... 92465 Wrong. I said I will no longer be running Howaythetoon.com and I didn't for a while, site and forum still remained though, up until it was closed by the host for fixture copyright some 2 months later. First the obsession with N.O, now the obsession with HTT, love it

I quite like the idea of a Director of Football and I think Keegan would excell in such a role at a club like Newcastle. That is the only way I'd like him back, ideally. Our current DOF if you like, is Freddy Shepherd and he's proved where his brains are, in finances, not football. As a manager, KK is a very good manager in my opinion, but not good enough for Newcastle or to take us where we need to be as absurd as that sounds given how he actually took us to where we are today. If KK for example were in charge of the football club however, with a manager or coach underneath him who trains, selects and writes up shopping lists, he has the drive, ambition, passion, personality, intelligence, confidence, belief and respect of everyone in Toon, to transform the club's way of operating. I would be far happier with the club in KK's hands than anyone elses, as a manager, it's a fickle game so results could go either way, i.e no guarantee of success or aiming to achieve success, as a DOF I just couldn't see us losing if KK had passion for that type of role. A return as manager, I'd be concerned and I would hate for his memory to be tarnished if he came back and failed which, lets be honest, would be likely. Again, it would depend on the manager whether it would work. I personaly believe a combination of Keegan and Shearer could well work. Short and long-term. People forget, Keegan isn't just a good manager, he's a very very good businessman and a media personality too - he knows both game's inside out. He could own a club outright and bring success that man. And hey, who knows, he may need the practice...
