In light of recent threads, there are quite a few on this board who have a thing for 80/90's music. A couple of years ago I was involved, by chipping in some cash, in a documentary on the Oxford music scene, Radiohead/Supergrass/Swervedriver/Ride/etc, called Anyone can Play Guitar. It's still out there for anyone interested but for the price of a DVD myself and like minded people were able to help the project get across the line for commercial release and in turn I received a limited edition copy of the DVD, a credit, bonus DVDs of out take interviews, there was also selected cinema screenings throughout the UK. Well there is another similar project based around JMC, Cocteau Twins, MBV, Swervedriver, Slowdive, Pale Saints, etc. They have a number of different options for support, with different returns, so if you're interested take a look and get involved. http://www.kickstart...sic-documentary There are a couple of trailers and interviews on the page that may interest you even if you're not keen to jump in financially.

Jill keep them, if anything it will make a great NME story when your daughter goes onto a successful music career and she thanks her mum for introducing her to the guitar.

I've just realised all those really influential pre grunge albums were released in 1990. Mudhoney - Superfuzz Big Muff Fuck Me I'm Rich - Sub Pop Sampler The Dwarves - Blood, Guts And Pussy tad - Salt Lick/God's Balls Tilt-A-Whirl (Arcwelder) - This

People say the 80s musically was full of wasters but I remember it as a period of the true indie label, when alternative bands were just that. This is going to be a struggle to keep it to 20 but in chronological order. Joy Division - Closer (80) Talking Heads - Remaining in the Light (80) New Order - Movement (81) The Clash - Combat Rock (82) Talking Heads - Speaking in Tongues (83) This album changed music for me and opened up a world outside of the commercial release The Smiths - the Smiths (84) Cocteau Twins - Treasure (84) The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy (85) Cabaret Voltaire - Drinking Gasoline (85) Killing Joke - Night Time (85) The Scientists - Weird Love (86) The Triffids - In The Pines (86) The Wreckery - I think this Town is Nervous (86) Lubricated Goat - Plays The Devils Music (87) Big Black - Songs About Fucking (87) Blue Ruin - Flame (87) The Olympic Sideburns - Dixie Truck Stop (87) Cocteau Twins - Blue Bell Knoll (88) nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Tender Prey (88) Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back (88) The Pixies - Doolittle (89) I could go on for ages.

It will get worse once you start to realise half the releases you've forgotten. For me this is harder than the 90s because my exposure to new music has changed from the radio to blogs, internet radio shows and actively finding things that have peaked my interest in reviews, etc. Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights (02) BRMC - BRMC (01) Besnard Lakes - Are the Dark Horse (07) Supergrass - Road to Rouen (05) Broken Social Scene - You Forgot it in People (02) dios Malos - dios (04) Elbow - Casts Of Thousands (03) 65daysofstatic - One Time For All Time (05) Film School - Hideout (07) Iron and Wine - The Creek that Drank The Cradle (02) Local Natives - Gorilla Manor (09) Love Outside Andromedia - LOA (04) Neil halstead - Oh! Mighty Engine (08) A Place to Bury Strangers - Exploding Head (09) Midlake - The trials of Ban Occupanther (06) Radiohead - Kid A (00) Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Yeah yeah Yeahs (01) but any of their releases is worth the effort. The Von Bondies - Pawn Shoppe Heart (04)

That list, fucking hell Alex. Godflesh and Shellac both interesting inclusions but would they really be part of a top 100? Lil' Wayne? Who was Lil' Wayne? It's funny someone in the comments is slagging the list because there is no Stone Roses, obviously not realising 1989 wasn't part of the 90s.

The Rollercoaster tour they did just prior to the release of Honey's Dead was amazing, I timed a trip to London just to make sure I saw the Brixton Academy show. First support Blur who had only just released Leisure, Dinosaur Jr 2nd support, My Bloody Valentine main support and JMC who were at the top of their game at that stage. Fucking awesome.

So where is Harrow going to end up? As part of Nucky's crew or will he just fade off? van Alden seems to have run his course but it will be interesting to see how far they develop Esther Randolf's character.

Although this was released in April 1990, wasn't a bunch of the singles released in 89? Public Enemy and NWA for me did all their best work in the 80s. Both Check Your Head and I'll Communication were brilliant releases and that's the problem with a top 10. Superunknow is not half the album Badmotorfinger is.

Allegedly someone forgot to include leap years into the mayan calendar equation and it all goes to shite today!

Both Slowdive and Lush are high on the list Parky, although Lush's best work was their EPs before they got to release an LP. Slowdive have always been brilliant, their stuff as Mojave 3 and Neil Halstead's solo releases are all worth searching out if you haven't already.
