Rather have Shearer than Hughes tbh
-
Shortest tenure in Toon history, Redknapp was here 20 minutes
-
While I find that I'd have a totally irrational excitement and optimism about Shearer getting the job I'm not sure it'd be the right choice. It could turn out to be a stroke of genius like Keegan coming in with Sir John Hall... or it could all end in tears with all those Shearer haters saying 'I told you so'. Either way I'd have him over Redknapp but then if we're not able to go for a top class manager we don't have that many options so might be forced to choose either risking it on an unknown or going for a mediocre manager.
-
I'm not sure if I'm coming round to the idea or I'm just resigning myself to the decision... I was 100% against the idea this morning, the Redknapp-o-meter is moving ever closer to acceptability.
-
Fair point on the recent transfers I suppose
-
I've just had a brainwave! What was Redknapp's record at Wist Ham as compared to Roeder? Whatever Roeder's record for us maybe Redknapp would be that much better for us... I'm clutching at straws aren't I?...

Would that be like the usual prematch ones? -
SSN - Newcastle to make official approach for Redknapp

Just what the hell does that mean?! 'Understands'? From who??? The club has either said it or they haven't. For anyone who thinks 'we should give Harry a chance' if he's brought in I say bollocks, it's ridiculous. Redknapp doesn't inspire any form of optimism, he's a cockney tit who's in no way better than Sam, call it a sideways step or whatever but one way to garentee that a manager won't get a decent chance is to employ one who doesn't get the fans going. I'm fed up to the back teeth of every time this managerial roundabout kicks off with us we end up extremely underwhelmed, no wonder there's a large portion of the fans who are so indifferent and unsupportive. I don't believe this rubbish about not being able to attract a higher class of manager either, money talks and Ashley's got a stack, he either wants to win stuff with Newcastle or he doesn't. If we get Redknapp I'll be mightly fed up with the whole thing. Whilst I am completely underwhelmed by the appointment (if true) of course as a supporter of the club I am going to give him a chance. What do you propose we do? Continue the pantomime booing, start Redknapp out chants etc Some people wouldn't even give Allardyce 12 matches, do you think we should be hounding Harry out before a ball is even kicked? I think for me personally I'm just fed up to the back teeth with the continuous appointment of 'make do' managers rather than pushing the boat out and getting someone with a decent rep or at least inspiring in (yes, I know Sam had an rep of sorts but he's the exception of recent appointments). I don't propose the whole pantomime thing, I don't do booing anyway but I certainly would be less inclined to buy a season/match ticket, new shirt, club merchandise, etc. I think I'd just find myself in that limbo of being a supporter but unable to muster any enthusiasm, is it wrong to want someone a bit more exciting than Harry Redknapp? -

Good luck to Sam if that's what he goes for, I've got not hard feelings towards the bloke.

Let's hope all these muppets lose their money!!!

If Redknapp comes in it'll make no sense what-so-ever, and not for the obvious reason that he's shite and nobody wants him. I still don't get the whole very sudden removal of Sam if there was nobody lined up ready to step in to the job or a better plan in place. There would be no logic at all in that, they might just as well have left him in charge. It's all very strange the way it's come about and I just can't see why we'd ditch Sam in such a manner for a manager of equal quality. If Ashley is such a hot shot businessman as he's peddled around to be he MUST have something more lined up than sacking Sam on a whim then finding they don't have any more real options than managers like Redknapp, Hughes, etc.
-
But why on Earth would Jose want to come to us??? He turned down England and there MUST be more attractive options to him than joining us. I'd love it if it was but i just refuse to get my hope up, I think there's more chance of it being Keegan with Shearer as No.2

Should stick to his pies

It's about time the board (albeit they're a new one) got a manager in that inspires the fans or at least causes some excitement. I was actually really optomistic when Sam joined us but we do need someone other than the likes of Hughes, McLaren, Bruce, etc.
-
Aye, just heard that too - experienced could be anyone 'other than Shearer' though, I'm actually starting to wonder if SSN's just covering their bets by dropping in these little off hand comments 'not a foreigner', 'experienced', etc. Just have to wait for something official to be said rather than listening to the numpties in the media.
-
oh ffs. Here we go again, roeder, souness, allardyce, hughes, much of a muchness. I didn't say he was nailed on. what's the odds on Terry Mac keeping his job? He's part of the furniture though
-
Yes its certainly possible and would be a dream for you as you could start an argument about the boards, Shepherd etc However I think attempting to sign Brown and sounding out a move for Diarra appears that they were prepared to back him. It was done so quickly and strangely with the backing, possible transfers that it certainly looks like there has either been a fall out over something or someone has given us the green light. That's what I'm thinking, it just doesn't make sense with all those very current things going on right up until 5pm this afternoon...
-
Yeah, it's all too quick and smooth so I'd have to agree that does sound likely.
-
Well, I must admit it'd make more sense IF it turns out that the whole "We're only looking at British managers statement" wasn't true, especially after Anal's comments at the weekend.
-
"SSN understands" Ahhhh, in that case - GET JOSE IN!
-
I thought it was an official statement according to SSN
-
I did, but only based on the statement that the club wasn't looking at a 'foreign' manager and there wasn't much choice on the British front.
