  1. At the rate we're snowballing in to oblivion, we'll be lucky to have a fucking team come the start of the season.
  2. MANCHESTER UNITED new boy Michael Owen is still costing Newcastle more than £50,000 a week. And the Magpies face paying a staggering £700,000-plus in wages to Owen and his fellow out-of-contract players Mark Viduka and Cacapa for the month of July. The trio all left Tyneside as free agents on June 30. And the Sunday Sun reported a fortnight ago how Newcastle were liable to continue paying them in full for a month if they failed to find new clubs. Owen, of course, clinched a shock move to Manchester United last weekend. But we can now reveal that the Magpies are still obliged throughout July to pay Owen the difference between his salary at St James’s Park and his new £50,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford. That means that as well as having paid him in full for the first few days of the month, Newcastle have to stump up £55,000 a week to Owen until the end of the month. While he remains without a club, Viduka stands to pick up around £320,000 before tax from United this month under the terms of his old £80,000-a-week contract. And the edge has been taken off Cacapa’s search for new employers by the £40,000 he is owed by Newcastle every week until July 31. Newcastle have been powerless to prevent a scenario which will infuriate fans already sickened by events – or lack of them – at St James’s. For the obligation to pay players for a month after they fall out of contract – and the difference between their old and new salaries – is part of regulations set out by Premier League, the Football League and the PFA. ................................................................................ .................. All this on top of all the shit we're going through. That fat c*nt of an owner should take the first bid and fuck off.

  8. Not sure if this has been posted anywhere.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8138992.stm soccer is coming to the UK! ................................................ The US broadcaster ESPN has announced plans to launch a new UK sports channel, called ESPN, on 3 August. The channel will show 46 live Barclays Premier League football games, which were to have been shown by Setanta until it missed a payment deadline. The channel will also show some of the US sports to which ESPN owns rights. ESPN has reached an initial deal to have the channel shown on Sky, but it is in talks with all UK pay-TV platforms about carrying the service. Sky will also be responsible for selling advertising on the new channel. Premiums ESPN owns the rights to broadcast 46 live Premier League games in the 2009/10 season and 23 matches for each of the following three seasons. Sky's residential customers will have to pay a premium of £9 a month for the new channel if they already pay for Sky Sports or £12 a month if they do not. For commercial customers it will be part of the "ultimate" channel package. The Premier League matches on ESPN will be produced by Sky Sports, although it will feature ESPN branding. ESPN also owns rights to show American football, ice hockey, baseball and college football and basketball throughout Europe, which it used to show in the UK on its ESPN America channel. ESPN is owned by The Walt Disney Company.

  13. from the ronnie DAVID Edgar is the first player to leave Newcastle United to spark off what could be a mass exodus at St James’s Park. The Canadian defender was offered a new contract to stay on in Newcastle but has signed a four-year deal with newly promoted Premier League outfit Burnley. The 22-year-old ended his Toon career in devastating fashion after being red-carded at Aston Villa on the day that United lost their top flight status last month. However, Edgar never let United down when selected and was rarely used in his natural position of centre-back, where he often shone as captain of the reserves. Indeed when he did play in the heart of defence at Stoke City in April he put in a man of the match display. The son of former Toon keeper Eddie Edgar will always be remembered for his howitzer against Manchester United in the 2-2 draw in 2007, and he also netted against Liverpool in the 5-1 loss on Tyneside last season. Edgar wanted to join the Turf Moor club on loan last season in November but the move was blocked by United amidst an injury crisis under Joe Kinnear. And there was no chance for him to move on loan during January for exactly the same reason. Edgar made just 23 appearances for Newcastle but was restricted to limited first team opportunities under a host of different managers including the man who handed him his debut in Glenn Roeder, Sam Allardyce, Kevin Keegan, Joe Kinnear and Alan Shearer. United will be entitled to compensation for Edgar because of his age and because he came through the club's Academy since the age of 14. Fellow newly promoted side Birmingham were also interested in signing the North American. ............................. That's the way, let the young 1's go.
  14. from the ronnie TURKISH giants Fenerbahce are monitoring the situation surrounding disillusioned Toon defender Steven Taylor. The injured England Under-21 star had the chance to join the Yellow Canaries last summer before he signed a three-year deal at St James’s Park. Back then Taylor was in contract limbo with United, who dragged their heels over offering him a new contract. However, the defender, along with a clutch of other Newcastle stars, has became unsettled amid confusion over United’s future. The Chronicle understands that Taylor sat down with Alan Shearer at the end of the season and discussed his future, with the London-born ace optimistic about next season despite relegation from the Premier League. Yet after becoming unsettled due to the club’s uncertain position and a lack of urgency in appointing a permanent boss, Taylor – who ideally wants to stay on under Shearer – is set to consider his options. And with Chris Hughton in caretaker control the discontent in the dressing room is only likely to increase, with Habib Beye, Taylor and Sebastien Bassong all linked with moves away from Tyneside. Fenerhahce finished the season in the Turkish SuperLiga in fourth position, meaning they will not be able to dangle the carrot of Champions League football in front of Taylor. But they will play in the newly-formed Europa League next term, requiring success in the third qualifying round to make it into the group stages. Taylor would also link up once again with ex-Toon playmaker Emre, who signed for the Turks last season. West Ham have also been linked with a move for Taylor who will not be short of options if he was to hand in a transfer request. Taylor, though, will wait until the August transfer window to see what the developments are at St James’s Park before making a decision, by which time new owners could be in place with Shearer in charge. Meanwhile, England Under-21 boss Stuart Pearce has saluted Taylor’s efforts for his country, despite him not appearing in the European Championship finals in Sweden. Taylor, now 23, is no longer eligible for the England young guns. .................. hope he does go....Sir Points-a-lot
