According to his agent he wants talks over a new deal if Shearer remains. I'd be tempted to keep him, I think if he can stay fit he could score a lot of goals. Certainly he and Beckford would bring a lot of pace.

What is the most ridiculous hatred you harbour?

Whenever I was out of the office my boss would ring me on my personal mobile rather than my work mobile for around a year and it really fucked me off. Not a clue why but it really grated on me. In the end I refused to answer it. -
Poor man's corned beef, chips and beans tbh/

If the money isn't there then we don't spend it. Isn't that part of the reason we are in this mess??? It might mean that we have a spell where we struggle while we shake off the hangover of the debt burden that we have been struggling with for the last few years. In the long term though, the income that we generate will stand us in good stead. I would be interested in Barcelona's numbers. How many fans? How much each? Where does the transfer wedge come from? How are decisions made? FC Barcelona's ownership structure is revered across the world and regarded as a model of the ideal football club. A group of Liverpool supporters plan to buy the troubled Anfield club from its American owners and run it using a system similar to that of the Catalan giants. Barca is owned by its ever-growing membership of 156,366 'socis' (members), who pay 150euros each year and are represented by a randomly-selected group who meet with the board and vote on major decisions. These representatives have a major say on significant issues such as sponsorship, finances and sporting affairs, while the president of the club is elected in four-yearly polls. The achievements of the illustrious club since its founding in 1899 are testament to the ongoing success of the structure, as is the fact many clubs have attempted to copy the model over the years. So why does Barca's system work so well? All adult members are eligible to vote in the presidential elections every four years. Club members selected randomly by computer and age, and 25 chosen by the board, join the directors, former presidents and other officials at the annual delegates assembly to discuss key issues, approve the annual report and forthcoming projects. Only members can buy season tickets, with membership fees contributing to the overall price of the ticket. Fiscal rewards for membership include discounted tickets for the club's various sports teams including football, basketball, handball and hockey as well as club magazines, e-mail updates, sporting and cultural activities and free entry to the Nou Camp tour and museum. Ultimately, though, it is not the material rewards which make the Barca membership structure so prestigious. In a modern game spoiled by disaffected supporters and unaccountable owners, it is FC Barcelona's utopian democracy which justifies its famous slogan 'More than a Club'. 22million a year! You'd still need to shift some shirts and season tickets!

Players we could (realistically) sign?

It's Vital Football so I'm not taking it at all seriously - But they're suggesting we've already bid for Andrew Surman of Southampton. He's been mentioned a few times but I've no idea if he's any good... -
Where you've gone wrong here is the second you started putting in overtime - you make a rod for your own back. People expect it!

I thought he was really good last night, having been highlighted as a weakness at right back by pleat he went on to put in an excellent fullback performance, raided forward well and was solid in defence I was thinking the same thing this morning. I said as much about 2 pages back and it was through gritted teeth cos i think he's deeply overated. And considering Toure isn't a centre half I thought he was excellent too. He made a run first half that must have been 80 yards to win a corner.

I really enjoyed watching it last night. I thought Iniesta was outstanding and I've always thought Puyol was shite, but he was top draw last night. Got up and down well and kept Rooney quiet.

barca's 146th goal of the season!!!!

What he said. Very recommended, though I do seem to lose access to photos and videos on occasion.

Just stay in Florence. There's some cheap accomodation if you shop around and it has a cracking atmosphere. Yeah I've been before and it's one of the few Italian cities you can walk around at night and feel entirely at ease.

Seemed appropriate to revive this given the time of year. Just booked return flights to Pisa for £80 for two on Ryanair. Plan to find somewhere outside of Florence and do some sightseeing/sunbathing.

If something is going to happen it needs to happen quickly, apparently pre-season starts on 1st July.

Sky Sports News understands that the investment bank representing Mike Ashley is in talks with an unnamed consortium regarding a possible takeover of Newcastle United. Keith Harris, the chairman of Seymour Pierce, is believed to have travelled to the North East on Tuesday to hold talks with an anonymous group that is interested in buying the relegated Premier League club. Harris was appointed to sell the Magpies last September as owner Ashley unsuccessfully looked for a way out in the wake of a backlash from fans, who had been angered by the departure of former manager Kevin Keegan. A number of parties showed an interest in the Tyneside outfit, but a deal was not struck and Ashley ended his attempts to sell his ownership. However, in the wake of the club's fall into the Championship, the millionaire businessman is again looking to end his association with Newcastle, and talks are reported to be ongoing. Meanwhile, boss Alan Shearer returned to Newcastle's Darsley Park training ground early on Wednesday morning to continue discussions with managing director Derek Llambias. The former Magpies and England captain returned to his hometown team on a temporary eight-game basis at the beginning of April, but both parties are thought to be keen to extend the deal. Shearer has not held back in his criticism of Newcastle's infrastructure in the wake of relegation, and he is considered to be the man to help regain a place in the top flight.

Kerry Katona has got to be on my list, but that's totally rational. I hate the fact that whenever I'm late for something every one-eyed mong driver south of the Watford Gap decides to take the same route as me. Which brings me on to southerners and their obsession with talking about roads, if I had a pound for every time I heard a conversation that starts "I had a white nightmare on the M4 this morning!!" Which brings me to people you say "If I had a pound.." -
It's all I've ever used. I think we should keep it a closed shop, with new people having to answer 10 questions about Newcastle in 60 seconds to be eligible to bemade a member. Q1) How large in square centimetres is Ant from Ant and Dec's forehead? Q2) On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being Barker and Stonehouse's best settees) how leathery is Bobby Moncur's face?

Just left Biggin Hill. He's now over Watford. Pilot complaining of heavy fuel burden due to excess cabin weight. -

A lot of highly rated movies have just come out on DVD and Blockbusters have got a £10 4 4 movies 4 4 nights deal. So far watched: The Reader - Excellent movie, with a thoroughly depressing ending. Kate Winslet's dodgy German accent grinded on me. Milk - Excellent movie, with a thoroughly depressing ending. Sean Penn is outstanding (again). Still to watch: The Wrestler Frost/Nixon -

Carver is nailed on to return by all accounts. I reckon Dowie might want to be number one somewhere. -
That's a horror. Must have been an interesting game given that there is an outfield player in goal having to try and make tackles 60 yards from his goal!!

Is the Championship still going on ITV? Also are league games still on Sky?
