Good point, you've reminded me of one - updating the OP

I actually think it's a brilliant film - the suspense racked up by virtue that you don't see the shark itself until halfway through. The shark POV camera work is awesome. And when you realise it was done like that as a contingency rather than planned, it's all the better.

1. A bouncing surge on the gallowgate terrace during a rendition of 'The Blaydon Races' 2. A beach ball being tossed around the crowd 3. Two lasses walking around the cinder track accompanied by wolf-whistles 4. A scoreboard - commonly breaking down with 'remaining minutes' reducing to 00 despite only having played 10 minutes. 5. The flag being passed around 6. The local press photographers waiting by the halfway line until they work out which the teams will be playing towards before promptly legging it to the end that Newcastle are attacking 7. The same photographers pegging it the length of the touchline, complete with kit when Newcastle conceed a penalty 8. Feet stamping in the old West Stand 9. A bunch of blokes using the corner flags to unpick the nets off the goalposts as soon as the final whistle went. 10. Steam coming from the Gallowgate end - a sure sign that someone hadn't been arsed to go to the bogs 11. Burning season tickets / scarves / shirts like when relegation was confirmed in 1989 12. The portakabins 13. The local majorettes - i swear that lass was going to have someone's eye out with that baton one day 14. Benfield Motors driving a shabby Cavalier along to the tunnel from the Leazes West corner before the match as some promotional stunt. 15. "Mick Quinn(*) drives for Benfield Motors" on the scoreboard (* - different player every week!) 16. Santa is a Geordie doing a run around the Milburn stand in the last home game before Christmas. 17. Old Stevie 18. The deafening sustained roar as the match is about to kick off 19. The massive crest in the middle of the pitch (those who were low down at the touchlines during the late 80s / early 90s will know exactly what I mean!) I bet that's made a few of you chuckle... Keep them coming - i'm sure there's more

Precisely.... When the grim reaper of redundancy comes knocking, he's going to look favourably on those who show willing. EDIT: no disrespect KD, but your response tipifies how stable a career in healthcare is. Unfortunately in other lines of work you just can't look it it so black and white...

The problem was outside the terraces - i.e. the number of turnstiles and the bottle-neck that was the elbow on Leppings Lane where the entrance to the ground was. In hindsight the ground wasn't equipped to deal with a cup semi-final - decent capacity but that was it. Easy to say that now though.

Funny.... I thought you needed that all the time tbh

FA Cup 5th Round at WHL back in 1987. Too many in one pen - those who tried to get into the next 'empty' pen were set upon by the Met's finest. Shocking!

Either way Rob, you look at that video from 1981 and the events are eerily similar. They're climbing the fences and having to lay down ont he ground once they were over. Huge fucking warning that was never heeded - more than that, they decided to segregate the terrace into pens making escape even less likely.
-
3 yellow cards to the same player in one match. Enough said.

The more I think about HF's point yesterday about the fact that the £100m loan from Ashley will hold its value, the more I think he's right and that's why Ashley is holding firm. He's the majority creditor of NUFC - even if the club went to the wall he'd be at the front of the queue to get his money back.

I actually thought it was quite funny..... for once
-
The current Spurs team is very reminiscent of the team we had towards the end of Robson's reign in terms of players going missing. I don't think there's any coincidence that Jenas is on the payroll TTTT
-
Fucking hell man, we drew with Chelsea and Man Utd... Think it's more a case of the big boys not coming out to play rather than either Newcastle or Spurs turning it on tbh.
-
They've lost that now. As, quite possibly, have India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh. Far too near the epicentre of all this. Shame like that the actions of the extremist few will determine such a change. Awful that sport cannot go ahead without the threat of violence though
-
It might work but only if Llambias, Wise and Kinnear were all dispensed with - and I think the chances of that are slim.
-
Tragic I guess that's the last time anyone will be touring Pakistan for a very long time. Difficult to comprehend what they feel they've achieved from this. Apparently Dominic Cork and Chris Broad are out there - both are safe but Broad is supposed to be covered in blood.

When and where is this quote from? Madeupshit-paedia. However I seem to remember Bevan saying it at the time.

This comment does still stick in my mind....

Love the way the press are getting a hard-on about the 'quintuple' when in reality they're still on course for 6 trophies.... not 5!
-
Are you talking about 1981 or 1989 Danny? If it's 1981 then there were no enclosures - Leppings Lane was one big terrace. The key problem in 1989 was that they failed to shut the tunnel going to the middle pens (like the had done so the previous 2 years) forcing the late entrants to go to the side pens. There's lots of incidentals which could have prevented death (no fences, no pens, not opening the gate etc) but the fundamental reason people were crushed to death was the failure to stop people going in those centre pens.

Time for some more.... I was at this game, stood in the Milburn paddocks (towards the leazes end of the tunnel). And yep, yet another arse-raping from Liverpool
