1. We'll never know as there is too many ifs and buts. The players bought with that money may have turned out shite and a waste of money or may have given us a really strong squad. What if Shearer hadn't got the injuries he had here and we had Shearer as good as he was when we first signed him for his time here instead of his spells out with serious injury and the detirioration they caused him afterwards. Its a tough call really as you can see how buying 3-4 quality players with the money may have worked out better, but it could easilly have failed and we would have missed out on the sheer pleasure and enjoyment of signing him and watching him play for NUFC.
2. *senses 20 pages and not about Robert either* They all knew Shearer was retiring and Owen would play nowhere near a full season with him. As we all know Fat Fred set aside a big load of money for Shearers replacement, he tried to use it on Rooney and failed, it was then kept for the next chance to replace Shearer and Owen came along and it was spent. Fred, Souness, Shearer and Owen all said he was bought to replace the Big man himself and pointed out it would take somebody special to do that job and that Owen was the man. He replaced Shearer as: the number 1 striker not support striker like Bellamy as the focal point to aim assists at the figure head and insipration from their reputaion as a world class scorer at every level as a big money Fat Fred style signing The fact that he is relatively short and fast never made him Bellamy's replacement, he is and always will be the main man and numer one striker in a partnership just as Shearer was (which would have made them playing together more, quite interetsing to see how they fought for the chances!) Bellamy's replacement is we go down the line of getting like for like should be a support striker who creates for themselves and can help out the main focal point of the attack But we don't have to, we can go out and buy another out and out goal scoerer if thats the way Roeder wants it.
3. I see what you mean, but I don't agree. I know plenty of mags who hate Spurs, and it was long before the past couple of years. Personally I've always hated the bastards, same with Everton, Stoke and Wolves. All complete bastards. 167620 Wolves fans are the worst fans on the fucking planet. Pure scum. 167628 Actually you've just pinpointed something I meant to say there, In all cases above I mean the fans. Not necesarily the team or owt. 167636 Yeah, thats the thing that remains consistent. Clubss change their manager and players and can go from a dirty, annoying bunch of arseholes to a decent attacking football side you can quite admire. But most clubs fans tend to stay the same and if they get on your tits they will invariably do so many years down the line. However some clubs no matter how often they change manager and players do somewhow manage to stay just as annoying and obnoxious as ever!
4. Now if we'd replaced Robert with Duff back then that'd have been good! As it worked out i'd say Zog ended up becoming Robert's replacement (and Shola did under the genius management of Souness!) and now Duff is a massive bonus so we have 2 left wingers i'd have in the team! Owen replaced Shearer though so i still await Bellamy's replacement and they'd better be as close to as good as Bellamy as we can afford or even better would do very nicely.
5. My hatreds change because unlike some they aren't irrational, they have to be brought about by the clubs themselves and teams do change. Manu are always up there, they're just consistently annoying! Arse were a disgrace for a long time and still annoying just not quite as bad as they were which would take some doing Chelski initially didn't bother me as i like Jose and the players were fine, but Mourinho has become a bit of a cock and some of the players like Robben and Drogba deserve shooting! Liverpool have never bothered me, don't mind the fans, managers have been decent blokes and few truly annoying players Spurs fans are complete cockends and the media around them are pricks, but generally their team and players don't annoy me much, so its solely to piss their fans off i want them to do badly Everyon for ages have had some truly annoying teams and managers and fans like Spurs so they get on my tits regularly Smogs fans are generally wankers and because of their obsession with us its good to give them a kicking and then the mackems, its probably the nearest i have to an irrational hatred because regardless of their team or manager i hate them as is only right and proper! But mostly its the fans that get you annoyed with them and give you the pleasure of seeing them frequently humiliated
6. Of course you are, you just keep telling yourself that until you believe it. You were also completely right about Bellamy and Souness and results and performances of the two did and will continue to back you up.
7. i don't know about the rest of you but i still have fond memories of robert. 167552 You're not allowed to remember the countless goals he scored and set up, winning numerous matches and the fact he did more of that than any other midfielder at the club, you can only remember him as a lazy, french mercenary who didn't work hard and tackle enough to play as a winger for our club. 167556 You're allowed to remember that. You just shouldn't forget that he had pretty much completely stopped doing it long before he left. And you shouldn't ignore the fact that he hasn't done it since he left either. 167579 You can also remember that at the end people like me who rated him were still happy to see him sold providing a quality replacement was brought in (at the time Zog was unproven and we had no idea what he might produce) but didn't want fuckwitt Souness petulently kicking him out and leaving us with nothing on the left. What we should remember though is that this could end up as another 20 page argument
8. I don't believe everything players say when they sign, or are at a club that woudl be stupid as you get people like "Mr Leeds" Alan Smith who stated categorically he'd never play for manu then couldn't wait to get their shirt on when the offer came. But by ths same token i don't treat every single player as a money obsessed bastard who will only ever play for the highest payers and that some players for whatever reason prefer us to SPurs. Part of it is perception and even though it hasn't bee true for years we are still held up as this entertaining, all attackign football team with an aamzing, intimiating atmosphere every home game thats worth a goal headstart. Its lazy from the media, but players still believe it all to be true and its attarctive. And remember there must be the odd player who is intelligent and has paid attention to the fact we are top 6 and in euorpe nearly every years whilst until last season Spurs have done fuck all, And whilst most players would pick London over Newcastle to live, some individulas don't like London or places like it, everyone is different. This season coming will define who players will/should pick of the two in future as they can follow on from a good season and build something or fall back to mediocrity again (under Jol sadly i think they will continue) and we can either get back to somewhere close to where we were and banish the Souness nightmare or we can struggle and fall behind Spurs.
9. i don't know about the rest of you but i still have fond memories of robert. 167552 You're not allowed to remember the countless goals he scored and set up, winning numerous matches and the fact he did more of that than any other midfielder at the club, you can only remember him as a lazy, french mercenary who didn't work hard and tackle enough to play as a winger for our club.
10. The likes of Parker, Emre & Duff still preferred us to them, despite them having their best squad for decades. Says a lot to me 167492 I agree, even though Spurs fans will cry and whinge that its only because we pay more in wages, the fact remains that players will choose NUFC over alot of clubs. Because of the money yes, but also our size, the fans reputation, the fact that nearly every year for ages we are in europe etc. etc. 167498 But mainly because of the money. You're buying their bullshit as well Papa! 167505 Maybe its because its not what motivates me but i don't see every single premiership player in existence as being solely motivated by the biggest pay packet (especially when both clubs are offering obscene money) and i actually think enough of some individuals that they will manage to factor in footballing issues and their view of a club and its fans into their choice of clubs. And unless people have seen the exact details of Spurs and our contract offers, talked to the agents and mind read the players involved i'd say you will have to go on what a player has said was their reasons for signing and not presume to know their mind better than the player in question. I've never denied ,oney is a factor, even Shearer with his love of NUFC and being a geordie wouldn't have signed if we'd offered him £100 a week but despite what manu fans insist it was hardly as if their club weren't offering him a shitload either.

12. It is annoying though that when for the first time in many years, Spurs are actually a rival to us, (instead of the fantasy belief of their fans and cocnkey wankers in the media that they are) that manu go and hand them a shitload of money! Thanks to Souness (and by prox Fat Fred) there are teams now level with us or even slightly ahead that shouldn't be close to us and we have a big job on our hands.
13. Even if Spurs win this poll, and my time spent on here would lead me to think that amongst members of this board, Spurs could win, the fact remains that of the two manu are (and ever shall be) the more hated club of the two by a long distance. As some people have said Spurs mean less than nothing to many fans and are just a joke in the way that they and the cockney media think they're something special and act as if they only recently won every trophy going and are one of the biggest clubs in the world! Nobody will take manu's crown as most hated from them, though Chelski's money, arrogance and Mourinho's change to become just as much a prick as Fergie and Wenger has got them challenging manu these days!
14. And as a proven prem player who can't get into his current team but looks to have the right attitude he fits what Roeder has said he wants. The only question is that Roeder feels he's too old and wants a younger player.
15. As long as he has sorted himself out and gets back to full fitness then he's a class CB with a couple of years left in the prem and would also be great to learn from for our other CB's so definitely worth signing.
16. Its only a pre-season friendly and yet the mackem board has several threads devoted to our match, us getting beat and the crowd not being big enough!!! Just when you think they can't get any sadder they never fail to surprise you
17. Another of Anal Oliver's catchphrases along with geordie and Lee Clark appearing in every other sentence, and the use of me, my, I, mine etc. in articles that are nothing to do with Anal Oliver at all! But yes, i'd imagine sooner or later we will be linked with Ronaldo with Anal probably mentioning that he sees Bobby Robson as a father figure and that SBR will advise him to sign for NUFC!
18. They turned down god knows how much to do a U.S. tour after Live8 and were the first and only band to donate all the profits from albums sold in the wake of Live8 to Make Poverty History IIRC. Any made from a concert for Syd would probably go to a mental health or diabetic charity. 166458 Yeah they turned down an absolutely obscene amount of money to reform and tour (as ironically have ABBA since they were mentioned in this thread!). And as you say started the idea of giving away any money earned from sales after live8. Also Gilmour gives shitloads to charities, he just doesn't make a fuss about it or mention it. I don't think the band could have done anything more for Barrett at the point they left him behind as they had to continue as a band. What was weird was how after 7 years of never hearing from him or seeing him he turned up just as they were recording Shine on you crazy diamond in tribute to him!
19. As long as it helps get him sold i don't care who says what to who! But if Roeder is sayign it then he's doing a great job because its far better talking up players to shift them than use the "Souness technique" of rubbishing a players ability and character for weeks before making it clear you are desperate to sell!
20. Not bothered about Harewood but Bridge for a bargain fee of £1-2m would do very nicely. We're desperate for a top class LB and not cover for Baba as Anal Oliver keeps insisting, we want Baba as cover for somebody better than him!
21. Well thats the last thing i expected, i was convinced they'd uphold the punishments for big, rich clubs and not in anyway backtrack and let them off with part of it.
22. Prefer Harewood personally - more like Sir Les. 164327 You crazy fool tbh. Ashton looks a much better player than Harewood. As for the Rooney thing, the "If no one else had come in.." line doesn't exactly make us sound first choice. I think somewhere else he says "I would have gone anywhere to get away from Moyes" which again doesn't exactly sound great. Having said that, I STILL believe that that was a genuine attempt by Shepherd to sign him, as borne out by the fact that we signed Owen the following year. Would have been fantastic to see him here, but let's face it, we would have ruined the poor bastard by now. 164329 I said at the time and right up until this article have said it. It was obvious that Shepherd was serious, that we agreed a fee and that ("if nobody lese came in!") Rooney was willing to come here, thats why Manu had to act when they really didn't want to. Its why we then suddenly had the money for OWen because as has always been the intention Fat Fred was keeping money for a big deal to replace Shearer, he thought he could replace him with Rooney, it didn't come off so the money was kept to replace Shearer with Owen. Now we need to sign Bellamy's replacement thanks to fuckwitt Souness!
23. I've seen his stand-up, a couple of his other comedies, and talk show appearances; he's great in Father Ted because he is father Dougal McGuire. He's thick, one-dimensional, uninteresting and unfunny - without those writers spinning his character the right way, I'm not even sure he can act. 164166 I was going to add that I thought his standup was quite good. 164168 I saw him back when Father Ted was just starting to be big and his standup was pretty good, though its the only time i've seen him. Sadly the only other comedies he's done since Ted have been shite so its pretty hard for him to be funny in them! Watched most of the top 50 thing again and you will always get a current programme doing really well when it won't a few years down the line, though i am a fan of Little Britain and would have included it in there.
24. If thats true it suggests he had the same low opinion of Sven that most fans do!
25. Have the said how bad they think the injury is or has he just gone off as a precaution?
