1. To be fair with his appalling injury record he'd fit right in here!!! In most of Roeders interviews he's been going on about researching players in depth before buying them in terms of their personality and injury records etc. so i doubt we'll see Glenn lash out millions on an injury prone player.
2. To be fair, you probably were as well
3. I know, its bad enough hearing the national "anthem" at the start, they could think of something better to sing! It is strange why England fall back on playing the same long passes over and over when things aren't working, but thats the sort of thing the management should have addressed eaons ago as its easilly prevented. 149258 I can understand resorting to long balls when things are not going well and the time is running up. But England played the long ball game right from the start. There is not passing involved in the game at all - especially from the two central midfielders who are barely involved in the build up of attacks. 149266 Yeah, theres not much point having the players we do and then launching long balls and long passes all the time. Its why we have to hope that if Rooney starts soon, they will play more football and have the option of Crouch coming off the bench as a different kind of weapon when things need mixing up.
4. I agree about Owen/Crouch. Even though Sven can say his choices won the match, Crouch had been poor and OWen was improving a bit for me and he needs time on the pitch. And we do hit the ball up too often. But if we win the game after the subs and Crouch scores, Sven is in a pretty good position to say i told you so! But he better give Owen 90 mins or near as possible against the Swedes as its Owen we will need come the later rounds.

6. You mean the Sweden who couldn't beat the team we just have? Its nothing to do with luck we won as we created and scored more goals, don't know why people find that hard to grasp, or does it always just have to be luck when its England. England aren't playing well clearly, yet they sit there with two wins and no goals conceded. To do well in later stages and win it we need a big improvement, but 2 wins and 2 cleansheets is enough of a start providing they learn from the mistakes in these early games.
7. On what basis. We were poor but completely dominated and created a number of excellent of chances (even if we pissed them away). And the very simple fact if you take your chances and the other team doesn't you deserve the win, fact. But we were poor, playing far too many long passes until later on. Lennon made a massive difference and may teach Sven the benefit of positive substituitons, though he's determined Owen won't get time on the pitch to get match fit for when we really need him later on. Thought Cole was unlucky to be subbed as he played better than Gerrard and Lampard who were off their games, but Sven can always argue his subs changed 0-0 into 2-0.
8. Don't know what Crouch was doing. He should have hit that standing up, he could even have taken a touch and placed it. The worst possible thing with his gangly legs was to needlesly attempt a bycycle kick! At least Owen can argue his chance bounced straight at him, Crouch had time and space to put away what was a complete sitter. Great save from Terry at the end there as well!
9. Its time they made the rule very simple and leave no room for interpretation. Just give the goal to the last person on the attackign team who touched it. It won't matter if it was on target before a deflection or if it deflects at a right angle! The defender doesn't want an own goal against his name and the attacker wants a goal to his credit so everyone benefits and you don't need a bunch of people sitting on "dubious goal panels" quite often fucking up simple decsions as to who scored. As it stands i though they were supposed to give it to the attacker if the original effort was on target and Beckham's was, and thats before FIFA said in this world cup to give even more benefit of the doubt to the attackers.
10. Imagine 50,000 people trying to simultaneously do the John Barnes 'Rap' Also i've seen a few times on TV where Barnes has said the 'rap' part was down to either him or one of Beardsley, Waddle or Gazza. Can you imagine any of those three doing it!!!
11. Thers also the fact that its always used as a jokey kind of word in an Alan Partridge style as when he called that bloke a "Bloody Mentalist". And the rest of SLP's post makes it blatantly clear he's having a luagh! I didn't know racialist was a proper accepted term meaning the same as racist though, so after 25 pages this thread has finally come up with a bit of almost useful information 149222 Ali G is who I was thinking of when I read it "Is that not racialist?" 149223 Yeah, there's loads of examples but its definitely a comedic use of words, usually to imply the person doesn't know what they're talking about on the subject at hand as they can't even get the word right, though it turns out the word is actually right after all!!!

13. At home where i have a comfortable seat, pefect view of the screen and as Alex said none of the general public!
14. The best football song there's been (if thats saying anything!) Some people may prefer 'World in motion' musically but 'Three lions' was not only liked enough musically to be no.1 twice and back charting again this year, but could also be sung by a stadium full of football fans which surely must be one of the aspects of any football song.
15. I heard JJ was kept up all night by the noise from his mobile, well not so much noise as it was on vibrate!
16. I think it'll be a convincing win, with Owen getting his tournament up and running and a good performance all round. Though if its hot as expected it'll be interesting to see what happens second half! I'll go for 3-0
17. Like Laurent Robert. Only with a work ethic. Oh, and the fact that he still sets up and chips in with goals. Robert stopped doing that. He doesn't go in huffs or go missing like Robert either. In fact, Robert was pretty rubbish most of the time. 149007 Are you trying to stir up trouble? I would always have Beckham over Robert but even with no work ethic a player who guarantees goals and assists is a very useful thign to have in your team.
18. Ah the benefit of a manager who makes positive substitutions instead of negative or wrong substitutions! I thought the Germans wouldn't score after hitting the bar twice within seconds like that, but they deserved the win.
19. Spain will probably fly through their group games, look unstoppable and then make a collosal cock up in the next round or the quarters, thats what my money would be on!
20. Beckham directly sets up goals and can chip in with them himself, that wins matches and will more than do for me. You also can't knock his workrate and his set piece delivery at the moment is absolutely unplayable even for good defences and later in the world cup that could end up being the difference between winning a close match and going out of the tournament.
21. Yeah, basically Sven in his infinite lack of wisdom wen to the world cup with: Rooney who may not have kicked a ball or may at any moment get crocked again Owen who could easilly get injured and who isn't yet match fit, so lets keep subbing him! Crouch who is still unproven at international level despite soem recent form Walcott who is unproven at premierhip level and who he has never seen But apart from 2 players at risk of being crocked, two unproven and Rooney always at risk of suspension if he manages to stay fit you can see what Sven is thinking, i mean you have got to find a way to squeeze Jenas in there, thats vital! 147960 He shouldn't have taken Walcott. Maybe he just fancies his lass 148226 Always thought he looked like a nonce. 148624 Harsh but fair! And anyone notice that no matter if a footballer is ugly (the nevilles) or a freak (crouch) or gay (no idea who that could be!) you can bet they will have a hot young lass as their partner...must be their personalities that gets all the women
22. Spooky! I had to put my tray of clothes pegs down, I was laughing that much! Anyone else have something strange they had to put down? 148729 I had to put down my neighbours dog...because it was laughing so much!
23. There is a lack of top english keepers to challenge Robinson these days, with Kirkland always injured and if Harper had been playing week in week out he'd have been in the set up for me. I'm always happy that he stays, we get good cover for Shay and he gets well paid, lives where he's happy and he's went to college/uni in his free time as he obviously wanted to do that and as somebody mentioned he can piss about playing golf if he fancies it! As for ambition, if he doesn't have much, so what, not everybody has to be a career or success obsessed person, some people are happy to enjoy life, be comfortably off and do what they want with their life.
24. Yeah it was nice for him that he has a memory like that at least for his time here and something the fans enjoyed as well which will always put somebody in the fans good books for as long as its remembered!
25. Its LATICS you cock Addicks are Charlton. 148866 Well, it's not easy to hear properly when your head is stuck up Lee Clark's arse... 148882 Thats Geordie-Lee-Geordie-Clark-geordie of the newly established geordie nation to you! Its not the biggest error Anal has made lets be honest, but its a mistake and its always worth pointing out when this imbecile gets something wrong!
