Stoke City 0 - 0 Newcastle United - 06/01/08

Cup games are gash for this very reason. People seem to have expected us to have turned them over when third round ties away from home against lower league opposition are always tricky. Just look at the other results. Overall I though the performance was average but there were brighter signs in Sam's team selection. Faye, Taylor, Viduka and Enrique all put in decent shifts, with Butt being the stand out. Lua Lua looked bright and tricky when he came on. I'd start him in the second leg to see how he copes against a fresh Stoke side. It would be nice to have an attacking player in the centre for once. EDIT - I don't think Acrossthepond watched the match -
I don't agree with any of the options you've supplied. I think he should play for us again but only due to the fact that his act of alledgedy lamping someone who had assulted a girl in his party wasn't as bad as the media want to make out. The fact he's a serial offender is a problem, but lets stick by him until the courts decide whether he's guilty or not.

He only ever looks decent when coming on with 20 minutes to go so he gets that extra time on the ball that he needs.

Sky have got the mongs signed to life contracts. They had to make do with what they could find.
-
He didn't miss the target against Arsenal , it was cleared off the line. West Ham was a bad one I agree. As for Man City on Wednesday, if he had confidence he would have buried them chances. Last season he was the main reason we stayed up, this season he doesn't look half the player he was under Roeder. Thanks, Sam. That doesn't make it better. It was such a timid shot. He placed it when he should've wellied it and vice-versa.
-
What? By being collectively shit so he looked good? Bare in mind he didn't have a fantastic season last year either. His goal tally was impressive but there was patches where he'd go completely missing from games for weeks in a row.

Kevin Davies?? The whole logic of selling our top goalscorer is baffling, his use of Martins has been baffling. I doubt we'll recoup what we paid for him. Seeing as he's quite clearly proving himself NOT to be a £10m player, I agree with you.... Understandable, being played right wing or up front on his own is not his game - never mind chasing aimless long balls down. He could make a barrel load more chances for himself if he used his pace more effectively and didn't have the first, second and third touch of a rapist.

Of course you are. By the way what's with the wannabe Hunter S Thompson picture for your blog? It's more to do with the fact I like the film Fear and Loathing than Hunter himself....although he is a bit ledge
-
Linked with him and some wonder kid a few months ago weren't we?
-
If we can get more than £10mill snap their fucking hands off.

I may have to apply, like. Sounds like a brilliant job, since i'm the font of all knowledge

Sorry Ken but I have to disagree, Allardyce doesn't have the skill ot tactics to turn it around. Just watch the man chew gum if you want to confirm how little is actually going on between his ears. He will always only be a mid table obscurity manager nothing more. You commented in your previous post that he inherited a shit squad, he may have to some degree (nothing like Roeder did from Souness) but since taking over he has brought in a lot of new players, got rid of the last of the shite and strengthened the squad in numbers. Problem is it's the player he brought to the club that are generally under performing, so he can't blame anyone but himself. And to be honest I think giving him and opportunity to spend money on his idea of better players is a waste because he doesn't have the ability to actually find them, let alone fit them into his team of tryers! Mort and Ashley after looking at his 3 x 6m players must be shitting themselves waiting for his hit list filled with huff and puff. But he wasn't when he resigned last year, or the year before that, or in 2005 or to lesser extent 2004. Tough call and I admit I'd be happy if he could get us to any of the following positions this season but I'd argue 7th isn't good enough for Newcastle in the long run. 06/07 - 7th 56 points GD -4 05/06 - 8th 56 points GD +8 04/05 - 6th 58 points GD +5 (I'll give you this season) 03/04 - 8th 53 points GD -8 I realise this does nothing to support my argument to get rid of the clueless idiot but an interesting fact for Bolton is if you look at their points won from Jan 1 in the last season you get: 06/07 16 points 05/06 25 points 04/05 35 points! 03/04 30 points. Regardless I still don't have confidence in him as a manager. Ken to answer your available manager question: http://www.toontastic.net/board/index.php?...st&p=415831 I wouldn't class top 8 as mid-table.

I'm giving him a chance and i'll be interested how things develop. Cant see him eventually turning us into a top 4 team - which ultimately we should be aiming for. Even if he wont get us there eventually, we need to show some faith in him so when he's taken us as far as possible we can go out and get someone who won't look at our past record of managerial hirings and firings and be scared off.
-
TRon, Sammy, Holden - Fuck off. Cheers Funnily enough I heard from a reliable source that Butt isn't 100% happy with Allardyce so i'm very surprised he's came out and said this. Either i've been lied to or he's acting the consummate professional.
-
He's the much better manager of the three overall. Okay, his tenure here hasn't been as successful as almost everyone would've liked but Roeder and Souness haven't done what Allardyce did at Bolton. You could argue that Souness brought Blackburn up in a very similar position but they were, are and will always be a bigger club than Bolton. They had one poor season, panicked, sacked a very good manager in Hodgson and ended up in Division 1. Those on here calling for BSA's head should remember that. Roeder has a history of coming in when clubs are in dire straights and doing stupidly well with them. The problem is he nearly almost completely destroys his hard work in his first full season. The only way I can see us being in serious trouble of relegation this year is if we sack Allardyce and have to bring in someone like Shearer to fill the void.
-
Especially when he sets his team as he does, fails to motivate his players and makes such match winning substitutions as taking Faye off and leaving an utterly exhausted Butt and Milner on. They are his players, it is his job to make it work - he can't. Were you at the game?
-
We can slaughter Allardyce's tactics (and God knows they've deserved it some time this season) but they players need to take a huge amount of stick. Why can they get up for games at Chelsea and against Arsenal yet capitulate against one of the sides with a poorer away record than ourselves? It's too easy to blame Allardyce.
-
Pretty much concur with everything JawD has said.
-
I may go slightly mad here... OUT Ameobi Ramage Pattison Carr IN Arshavin Anelka A few young players which may or may not turn out to be good enough for the squad just to give us a 'foot in the door' and establish links with agents, clubs and a base to build a reputation.
-
Zoggy's gash in the centre though IMO. I'd quite fancy him to do a job in the hole. He's probably the only player we've got who can run at people and supply a half decent pass.
-
If we don't sign anyone of note in January.... ---------------------Given --Beye-------Cacapa----Faye-----Enrique --Milner------N'Zogbia---Butt--------Duff ---------------Viduka-----Owen That's the back four that's impressed me most this season when they have played together, N'Zogbia in the centre to plug the 'creative midfielder' hole, Owen ahead of Martins because even though the latter is our top scorer he looks jaded and his inability to finish seems to be getting worse.

That shows how much of a fucking idiot FS was
