Mike Ashley puts Newcastle on the block
David Kelly replied to Scottish Mag's topic in Newcastle Forum
He must have looked at Shearers plans and realised he would have to be passionately commited to the club to back them - its just more shite and i can't see who will buy us - the revenue streams are fucked and without immediate direction were are gonna be left with a bunch of shite players sitting on big contracts - what a fuckin arsehole He is the fucking makems wet dream really isn't he! -

No you're thinking of the Pentavirate. Made up of The Queen, The Vatican, The Gettys, The Rothschilds, *and* Colonel Sanders before he went tits up. -

Whilst getting rid of Ashley would be a good thing, I can only see this dragging on and harming our preparations for next season. More months of pain likely. -

The Running Man 8/10. Classic Arnie. Dark City 5/10. Cheap, muddled & poorly acted version of the matrix. Still has some good points (William Hurt mainly) but generally not much cop. -
D-day arrives for Ashley over Shearer's rebuilding programme
David Kelly replied to Jimbo's topic in Newcastle Forum
Guthrie is exacty the type of player we need in this league Shit who can't last more than 50 minutes? I'm not sure how that will help us tbh. -
This lad is our best prospect imo. The papers keep saying he has been a flop but before he picked up that knock he was our best player since about Christmas. I hope we can keep him but I have doubts, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get in to the Spain squad in the future if he can progress a bit more.

The vast majority of top class internationals are playing in their first team by 18. That's not to say all do or that plenty of decent players don't come through until later but if we're talking this lad up to something massive then I would suggest we need to be seeing something of him soon. If not then he still has a good chance of making it as a pro but is unlikely to be the next Gazza for us.
-
The fact that his coach is talking him up for the first team at only 16 is very promising and if he's going to be a real star I think we will need to see him this year. Not many players come through older than 18 and become real top class players.

Too brain dead to ever be a good player. And for someone with such pace his movement is fucking awful. He's someone you just can't rely on too, as my dad says, if he beat the last man on the half way line and had a clear run on goal you wouldn't bet against him falling over before he got there. We do need to replace his pace though.
-
Hope he does go there, I fucking hate the cunt anyway.

I think Ashely had to come out with the appology (whoevers idea it was ) but I agree it means fuck all until it's backed up with actions. He's lied to us consistantly and the only way he can get out of it is with actions not words. Hopefully this is just the first step on a path he is taking and if that happens then great, if it doesn't then the shit we are in at the minute will look like nothing in comparisson to where we are heading.

and if you point to one post who says that he is a Messiah I'll happily apologise on their behalf. If you cannot see the position of power that Shearer is currently in, you're either blind or stupid. Of course I can see his position of power but I seriously doubt the first thing he's doing with it is demanding an apology on behalf of the fans. He'll be securing funds and control and no doubt sorting out a healthy pay packed. And I never said anyone has called him the messiah but your all putting him on a massive pedestal and it's just amunition to people to like to take the piss out of us. To be honest it strikes me as something that Alan Shearer would have said. It wouldn't have been "right you fat bastard, get out there and grovel like a discovered adulterer" more likely "I think the first thing is there needs to be an apology to the fans, they're the ones who've been let down." I think "Mike you could do yourself some good by issuing an appology" is more likely myself. I just don't see him making demands like that to guy who has to make things happen. Yes Shearer is in a strong position but he aint gonna get anywhere without Ashley's backing and he will know that. Shearer is a smart guy.

I agree tbh I know he's only had 8 games and all but i've seen no sign at all that he's going to be a good manager. Most of the time he just sits on his arse and lets Dowie do the work. If we had even a remote chance of getting Martinez in, I'd be far more open to that than Shearer staying on. I think there have been positives in what he's said and what experienced players like Duff have said about him. But I agree on the pitch we saw very little improvement. Given what he had to work with that's not surprising though and as such I'm still very much in favour of his appointment. Lads, he had EIGHT games. That's EIGHT. He had to work with a completely disheartened and shell-shocked squad whose confidence was absolutely shattered from the months (ok, years) of turmoil and bad results. That and most of the players weren't good enough. You reckon Wenger or Ferguson would have done much better in 8 games? Shearer has realised what needs to be done and he's probably told fatty exactly what he thinks. I dont care if he hasn't managed before - Keegan hadn't first time round and look what happened then. I reckon we've just got to give him a chance tbh. As long as he gets rid of players like CocaColaccini who haven't got the heart for a fight then I'll be happy with that as a start. I think you've completely missed the point of what I was saying as I was pretty much saying exactly the same as you. He had nothing to work with so it was no surprise he couldn't turn them into world beaters. And as I said I did see other positives.

Players we could (realistically) sign?
David Kelly replied to smoggeordie's topic in Newcastle Forum
Talking to a Leeds fan today and he doesn't rate him too highly. Spoke better of Delph and very highly of someone called Snodgrass. Robert Snodgrass formerly of Livingston. A Scottish U21 international. The lad I was talking to rekons he was their best player. -

I know what you mean, and I'm not a million miles away from your opinion, but seriously, is it worth a new manager coming in with a "clean state" philosophy to the squad ?? We need rid of these mercenaries and Shearer knows exactly what needs doing already, and we can't afford to waste a moment. I'm not arguing with that at all and I hope/believe this will be what he's doing now. But he's not going to demand an appology from Ashley. Why would he want to try and back Ashley into a corner so early. He may have sugeested it though.

You lot are fucking delusional. Shearer was a brilliant player and someone who cares about the club but that's it. It's no wonder poeple take the piss out of us with the whole messiah thing.

TBH I don't blame him for selling up to Ashely. Him and Shepherd couldn't afford to put the money in that was needed to compete at the top end of the table even if they had wanted to. Then comes in a billionaire and it must have looked like a great option for everyone. He couldn't have known how Ashley was going to fuck up so monumentally. You can blame him and Shepherd for sacking Robson and coming up with Souness as his replacement (which was ultimately the start of all this).

trying to see some silver threads in the gloom...

Ashley may finally realise the shit we're in and invest some money in the playing staff (that is assuming we're not completely on target with his master plan of sending us into oblivion). -
I'm not desperate to see Harper moved on but from the little I've seen of Krul and what I heard of him at Falkirk (he was apparently very commanding in the air which impressed them more than his shot stopping), I'd be more disapointed losing him than Harper.

Shearer should step down as Newcastle manager
David Kelly replied to Jimbo's topic in Newcastle Forum
He blames Shearer in one sentence and in the next says that the players weren't good enough. Excuse me if I'm missing something here but I don't recall Shearer signing any of them. Yet another disgrace that someone is being paid to write shite like this! -

Forgetting Sarah Marshall 7/10. Surprisingly decent.
