  1. How can you fall asleep watching Kinski? The man's mesmerising. His performance is good but the story just seems dull as fuck (something I thought before even starting to watch it but I dismissed that after the reviews it gets). It gets going once they get to the hill. Still not there, I fell asleep again last night just after they kicked the two blokes and birds of the boat for fighting.

  3. Spot on really. The last couple of seasons have been the most depressing that I have known, the football has been crap (although I've been going long enough to remember worse) and the crowd has ranged from apathetic to aggresive and the high points have been very few and far between. My love of football is what's suffering the most. I still always want to be at the match but more often than not I can no longer be bothered to watch matches on the telly. I won't ever give away my season ticket though and I will keep hoping that we are going to see things get right. Back on the topic of Allardyce, while I still believe he would be able to do a good job for us given the propper time I just think he's never going to get it and I would not be at all surprised if he wasn't in charge come Saturday (if he is and we don't win he certainly won't be for much longer). The more I think about it the more I am behind the idea of Shearer coming in. The club (more importantly the fans) seems in need of something to reignite it in the same way it did when Keegan arrived. It's sad to say this considering how short a period it is since we were in the champions league and we are obviously in a much better position now than we were when McKeag was in charge but it really does feel like the whole place is so flat. The prodical son coming home might just be the thing to do it. I only hope that if it happens he brings in some experienced quality coaches and not just go with his fan favourite mates like Lee & Speed. I cant imagine it having the same effect though, I'm sure Shearer wont be allowed the time ( by the fans) in the way that Keegan was. Also Shearer has only been gone a season and there has been almost constant speculation about him being our boss unlike Keegan who came more out of the blue. I don't see anyone being given much time anymore but I do think Shearer would get more than any other manager from the fans and if the fans give him time then he will in turn get time from his boss You're right about the constant speculation which was there well before he even retired. It might not be the same thing as Keegan as he came right out of the blue with no one ever considering that he would be our manager. But I do think it is possible that Shearer might be able to get everyone united and put a bit of a spring in peoples step. Tbh I can't really believe that I am starting to advocate this at all but the way the fans have turned on Allardyce so quickly this season really has made me think that no one other than Shearer would get the backing required to put things right. I that might be the key factor.

  5. I'm trying to watch Fitzcaraldo without much success. I keep nodding off every time I put it on. Needless to say it's doing nowt for me at all.
  6. Tbh things are really looking quite bleak at the moment. These sort of things are completely the opposite of what I expected from us with Allardyce here. It's looking more and more like he is dead in the water at the moment especially after we lose to Arsenal tomorrow.
  7. Nat King Cole by a country mile. I don't often listen to him but is voice is absolutely fantastic. Dean Martin wasn't too shabby either, far superior to Sinatra.
  8. De Niro and Kietel are both fantastic in it. You'd have to be a mook to not to love it!
  9. Raging Bull and Mean Streets would be the closest for me although Goodfellas is my favourite.
  10. I love Chinese restaurants but I've got a bit sick of takeaways. Wor lass could eat a chinese takaway every night and not get bored (even though she's an excellent cook and make much better stuff herself) but I think she's put me off a bit. Plus I really like Kung Pow (that spelling is probably wrong) and not many takeaways do that. Mandelay in Jesmond is excellent although it's not just Chinese. Oh and I hate all you can eat Chinese, they always seem to have been stood out for ages and taste rank.
  11. Probably ranks as my second favourite film ever.
  12. Totally agree and I would add that this is my favourite Coen film. Tuesday to Thursday's looking a bit thin.
  13. I don't want it to sound like this is what I think should happen because I believe given the time and backing Allardyce will do a good job for us. I just don't think he will get that from the fans and they will probably force Ashley's hand and as long as Shearer is out there he will always be hanging over the head of anyone who comes in. And top mangers will know this and stay away because of it. We have to get it out of the way because it will hamper our progress if we don't and I just hope that for the reasons I suggested above it does work.
  14. I'm actually at the stage now that I think Shearer might well be our best bet. If we sack Allardyce no top class manager will touch us (unless he is promised a ridiculous amount of money) so we might as well take a chance on Shearer. He will at least get the backing of the morons who won't give other managers more than five games to turn us into title contenders. Hopefully he might turn out to be a very good manager or at least he might stir up the crowd and get us some momentum like Keegan did. I get the feeling he would also demand a good amount of funds too so at least we might be able to bring some decent players in.
  15. I'm moving house and want to get broadband in as well as needing a phone line put in. Anyone know of any good packages about? It seemed we were paying a fortune for BT in the old house when we hardly used the phoe, just so we could have sky in.
  16. WOD is definitely worth watching if you have it but I would definitely recomend Paris Texas if you've not seen that yet. Quite possibly the best film I've seen this year.
  17. I can imagine what they did with it and although in some ways I think it would have been for the best but I'm sure they will done more harm than good. I should add that I didn't think it was a bad film and certainly did care about the characters but after Paris Texas which I totally loved and with it coming so highly recommended I was definitely disapointed.
  18. This is very true. The guy's a grafter and a good stopper but he lacks pace and any sort of passing ability. If you look at the likes of Carrick or Hargreaves that is really what you want from your holding midfielder.
  19. i enjoyed it Was massively disapointed with it after the first two, seemed to be going the way Batman went. Wings Of Desire. I had very high hopes after the last Wim Wenders film I saw (Paris Texas) but I have to say it didn't really live up to them. I found the dialogue annoying and a bit pretentious and the film was lacking in any real narrative structure. The actors were very good though, especially Bruno Ganz and Peter Falk (playing himself) but ultimiately it was a disapointing film.
  20. I can't believe he was ever being considered to begin with. Just shows how lacking we are in quality managers we are. I so hope McKay gets sent down.
  21. I just got the Twin Peaks second series from America. Best programme ever, fact!
  22. Have you seen Batman Dead End on Youtube of that? Tbh it's class,

  24. I don't think Blackburn are all that much better than us at all but they have a bit of stability and have built a team over a period of time that has made them a solid difficult team to play against much like Everton. They aren't in the same league as Liverpool or Arsenal but I have no confidence in us at the moment to be able to beat a team like them away from home.
