Anything that would see an end to Carr's Newcastle career would find favour with me like.

For the fullbacks I would like to see two players who can provide good attacking support like Beresford used to. I think it's one of the most important aspects of the fullbacks game these days and I our lack of it has been the main reason why our wingers (particularly on the left) stuggled so badly last season. Our right side (where I would say we have a weaker player in Milner) looked far better when Nobby was supporting there.
-
Clearly we need two new starting fullbacks. Baines would be good for leftback but I can't think of anyone (realistic) that I would really like to see us go after for rightback. We need at least cover at centreback and I'm not totally convinced with any of our wide players. We could do with someone with that little spark of geinus somewhere in the attack too. Someone like Pedro.

Would be a good free but I can't say I've ever been that impressed with him. Decent enough footballer and a useful adittion to the squad but I don't really see where he would really fit into the starting eleven.
-
Anyone got any ideas on who they would like to see this money spent on? Regardless of how much we have to spend we aren't going to be able to attract the likes of Kaka or Ronaldhino so we might as well be realistic.
-
I agree with that. He has no experience as a manager before this season and players will know that. I'm sure they're in a better position to attract players than they were last time they were promoted but the vast majority of their squad isn't premierleague standard (any of their less moronic fans will tell you that) and I can't see them getting enough quality in to do anything more than just barely survive.

Or amybe he might win something and then Laura loves him so much he decides to give him some more! If there's 50 mil on offer now, I'm sure there will be more in the future. But if there is say another 50 next season and Sam has been able to get us back into europe on 30mil then there's 70 next season with the ability to attract better players which is a very appealing proposition! Not going to happen. Big Sam will 50 this season and if he doesn't spend it all, it won't change what he gets next season. It's not like a savings fund. The only thing that will effect how much he gets next season is where the club finishes. You might be right. I would hope he will make sure he knows this for certain though. I just don't want to see us waste money on players who aren't that good just for the sake of it.

I've been telling all the makems at work that this would happen for ages. The last two times they were in the premiership they got relegated with the lowest points ever and even beyond that when was the last time they spent more than two seasons in the top flight? Even with the new money they have, good players aren't going to be desperate to go there.

Do we think Sam should spend all of that money this summer? We are in a position now that not being in any European competition, we will struggle to sign really top players. We might be better off keeping some of it until next season when we are (hopefully) able to offer European football.

Can't see it after they've bought Halford.

It's surprising actually. You would have thought the papers would have been dying to link us with any amount of £15m + players. Wonder if someone knows that we're not going to get as much money from Ashely as we expect. Can only be good for the club i reckon...not being linked It's good not being linked just for the sake of it but eventually if we want to win things and play in the champions league we will need to bring in some top class players and they are going to cost money.

Shrek 3. Much better than I was expecting tbh although they could have done with more Donkey. Hollywoodland. Pretty good but let down a bit by the problem that they couldn't give an answer of what really happened. -
Personally I don't think he's great but I don't think he's as bad as many make out. My main issue is that he has allways seemed to be incorrectly used (most of the time with Shearer when niether of them were mobile enough to be effective). Under Roeder he was starting to score goals and I think there is some hope of him hitting it off with either Owen or Martins. He'll never be an international class player or owt like that but he could prove himself to be a decent part of the squad.
-
I'll go along with Gemma and SLP on the confident front although I think we clearly need to start making some forward steps on the defensive front in the next two weeks or so if we really want to get a good unit in for the new season. And although there are a few teams who have more money now, it was quite clear last season the standard of the league outside the top four was very poor. I think if anyone manages to put a decent team together they could easily break into the top six. League position isn't the be all and end all for me this season as I will be happy to see us start moving forward again after the last three awfull seasons but I don't think Europe is out of the question by any stretch.

He's the new Tino tbh!

For fuck's sake don't start more rumours Stevie. I can't be arsed with another 30 odd pages of shite

He's definitely worth £3m, he's a good footballer and used to link well with Viduka. I wouldn't be overly impressed with him as a direct replacement for either Martins or Owen though tbh. I don't think he would ever score the amount of goals they are capable of. That said he would offer us something different and would probably be more likely to fit into a 4-3-3 than either of those two (especially Owen) and I would say that a strike force of Owen/Martins, Viduka, Smith & Shola would score a lot of goals if we are able to provide them with the oppertunities.

Art Brut - It's A Bit Complicated After a couple of listens it's not as good as Bang Bang Rock And Roll but its still quality and there are a few excellent songs on there.

If you believe what Souness is saying now all you can do is blame fatty for all of the players we have.
-
It's interesting that he is now basically saying that he doesn't think anyone will come in for Owen rather than he thinks Owen has any desire to stay. I think it's reasonably likely that he will stay until January at least and anything beyond that (assuming he stays fit) will depend on what sort of prospects it looks like we will have under the new regime.

The New Pornographers - Challengers Liking this much more than Twin Cinema after one and a half listens. Not enough Bejar though!

He's slower than Campbell is now IMO (injuries?), I mean it sometimes can work out (like with Pearce), but you've got to be really on top of your other aspects not to get caught out if your pace has completely gone. He might be a good squad player to have, but I dunno about 1st team starter. Oh i agree and in our current situation we cant say no to a proven class defender who would be a good squad player for sure. Doesnt have to play in all the games nor be first choice but it is good to have decent backup. We just cant right players off at the moment for being too slow or too old. Would be great alongside Taylor in my opinion. I guess we shall just wait and see who Big Sam signs. Im more eager for this current season to start then ever. I come on every morning before going to work to see if we have signed anyone over night etc. For some reason i am more primed for the up coming season and wish it would start soonish! I completely agree with your points about Hyypia. I would add that you just have to look at Milan's defence for past decade or more and see how they have regularly had players the wrong side of 30 (Maldini, Costacurta, Cafu, Baresi) and they have had some of the best defences in the world.
