I just enjoy that they’d all decided none of this was going to happen, that the Saudis had bought us with the intention of owning a mid table club and wouldn’t bother despite everyone knowing this type of sponsor is what would happen, and now because of that they’re even more annoyed.

Absolutely this, obviously we are all desperate for cup runs and a cup win but the opportunity we have this season to come top 4 needs to take complete priority. It will be completely fucking transformative to our club and put us years ahead on our timeline, it’s way too good of an opportunity to pass on to prioritize a league cup run.

Aye I’ve got a feeling Isak was bought as a wide forward who can cover the CF rather than primary cover for the CF position. Wilson basically said as much in that podcast he has, as much as I like Wilson I agree we absolutely need cover especially if we do get into Europe as that means at least 6+ games onto our season. I think re CM we’re kind of at a similar point just slightly prioritizing different - I personally think we should just sign both Maddison and a 6 in January as that would give us an exceptional midfield with plenty depth overnight. Maddison is kind of a no brainer signing for us honestly which is why I really hope it happens, he’s the kind of dynamic creative force we really need and he’s not going to get a move to any of the other sides competing for the top 4 (purely out of arrogance imo as there’s no reason Liverpool shouldn’t be in for him), he also covers so many positions in that he can play wide, behind the forward, or that Willock role just advanced of Bruno. I think going forward Joelinton becomes our Milner type player in that he just covers every position from midfield up and with European football having a player like that in our squad is vital. If we could sign Diaby/Trossard, Alvarez/Sangare, and Maddison in January I think we’d be a shoe in for CL football, and I think the football world would throw their collective toys out the pram.

Manquillo is and always was one of the worst players in our squad, his positioning is fucking laughable. He got away with it at times to a degree because others around him were unorganized so his failings didn’t stand out but now we are well drilled he’s basically cost us a goal every time he’s stepped on the pitch under Howe. I agree with Fish on the midfield need tbh, we need Bruno in that 8 role as he’s just so instrumental when he plays there - we only need to improve on Longstaff/Shelvey to improve the 6, someone like Alvarez from Ajax or Sangare from PSV. Maddison could fit in our side over Willock since he tends to operate slightly further forward of Joelinton/Bruno when they play the 8. After that I’d love to see us keep improving the forward 3 with a Trossard/Diaby type signing - while I’ve been among Almirons biggest critics he’s been in sublime form all season and rightfully keeps his spot but that LW position isn’t nailed down - ASM is so injury prone and I’m still not entirely convinced he suits Howe’s set up.

A draw was maybe better but we still have an 8 point gap on Liverpool, they have a game in hand too but they’ve been tending to show up in games like this before dropping points to mid table teams.

It’s also brilliant how they’re confusing people simply hearing of them with supporting them. If we manage to keep in the top 4 that accelerates our plan massively. Staggering the job Howe is doing, it’s not even just a good run of form now either this is simply the way we play now. Just what Howe gets out of the players is insane, putting aside the turnaround in Almiron and Joelinton you even look at Longstaff a player who constantly looked slow and unfit under Bruce but now has covered the most ground out of anyone in our squad this season. I think if we are top 4 in January the Saudis will spend big on 2-3 (say Maddison, Diaby, and Alvarez) and then finishing there will open up huge spending potential due to CL money and extra sponsor money.

Felt like we coasted it today. Southampton come out putting in a lot of effort but couldn’t really lay a glove and then for about 15 minutes first half we went up a gear and scored before tapering off into halftime, second half quite similar for me and Southampton tired allowing us to just pick them off. Basically Howe dickslapped that whingy Austrian dog wanker. Just hearing that Hassenbitch is sacked Brilliant that we just dominate games at a canter like today I feel we have plenty energy going into the Chelsea game.

Seems it’s finally dawned on them that we are miles better after a year of delusion that they’d still beat us (regarding the post takeover side - mackems have always been deluded besides that), of course now it’s all irrelevant though - much like their club in general I suppose.

Aye, you see this kind of logic applied to bigger players all the time and it’s total bollocks - if the reverse had happened sky would have dragged Burn through the coals but because it was a lightweight player that did it to a big player it’s shrugged off.
