  1. Just started Westworld, on episode 2. Not feeling it at all, anyone got any reasons to keep going? What else is good drama? I can't be bothered to trawl though the thread but am looking for the less well known recommendations. Obviously heard and probably seen all the big new shows but I got the sense there were some nuggets knocking about which i hadn't seen. If you wouldn't mind
  2. FYP. I know then as he advanced his agenda he lost that for the next 6 of his 8 years in power. Its the problem with mid terms.
  3. It was your straw man not mine ffs You then even got distracted by my reasons for being concerned with Trump. And you have the nerve to blame me for wasting time. He did not have majorities across both houses. He had the house with him for 2 of 6 years. Only Reagan, Clinton, Nixon and Eisenhower have had similar. Trump will also be kept in line through the checks and balances but lets face it, something needs to be done about ISIS and something needs to be done to increase security. I dont expect Clinton to back away from that but i trust her judgement better than spanner face's.
  4. All true but Obama was a democrat being dragged to the right by the Republicans who are funded by the neoconservative nutters like the Foch brothers. The influences of the CIA, the military and the corporations that support them act as an anchor to the Democrats from moving too far to the left. A Republican president doesnt have the same forces anchoring him from moving right. I think that sums it up for me.
  5. So are you as unconcerned about a Trump victory as Parky, Chez, given the limits on presidential power that have so stifled Obama? Is the question you asked and the one i answered. I ignored the caveat as i dont think the caveat is relevant to the first part of the question. The logical implication of your argument is that no president is important as power is stifled which lacks any form of nuanced thinking i thought it was best to move on. Do we really have to waste time doing this?
  6. Because you asked me a direct question about whether i supported Trump. I was addressing all of the questions as i assume you are able to hold them in your head rather than needing formatted signposts. I don't support Trump was an answer to that question and i was explaining that despite having a great insight into how the rational, educated Trump supporters think, despite a Trump win being better for me personally and despite all the email scandals, i'd still vote for Clinton.
  7. I always find meeting and talking to supporters much more insightful than reading about them on the internet. Indirectly i am. And yes.
  8. Unless of course that's exactly what ISIS want you to think.
  9. And lets face it, Islam started this going all the way back to the first millennium.
  10. No, his window cleaner apparently. How quaint.
  11. I got absolute pelters for saying he shouldn't be banned. HF and me were standing up for freedom of expression and the right not to be a massive bairn. Was not a popular position.
  12. I know and work with people who are involved in the Trump campaign, i will be in the US for the election with some of these people and hear their arguments all the time. I dont think Trump would be complete disaster but i support Clinton as i find nothing in the whole email story that bothers me at all. That is a very objective point of view, if i was being selfish i would support Trump. Re: Obama I think you raise very decent and important points. Think we disagree on the how extended Obama's powers have been and for me you ignore his political strategy which, as the first black man to run the country, i think he had no choice but to pursue. My Republican friends even now call him out as the reason for the racial divisions in the country, even going as far to blame him for the racial disturbances after high profile deaths, citing persuasive statistics that black men arent more likely to be killed by Policemen. Hi bi-partisan strategy has led to a strong foreign policy and an inability to close Guantanamo in line with his promise. This has mitigated against those political divisions.
  13. They are mainly used for walking for most of the year, it's not just ski resorts and treacherous mountains. Done some nice hikes around Interlaken and the lakes around Zug are amazing and have very similar geological features to our own. Not really comparing the two as the colors and atmosphere are very different but Alpine walking is a very big thing in those parts.
  14. The Alps are canny impressive
  15. Let's be clear here, Trump won't be having any Burkinis at his beach resorts that's for sure.
  16. Same here, not sold on the idea of banning clothes in a free society. The Burkini thing this summer was an absolute joke.
  17. Meaningless without an understanding of the House majorities.
  18. That depends on the structure of Congress. Have a look at the following https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Presidents_and_control_of_Congress Then try and understand the difference between Senate and House. Then work out how much control Obama had. Some but spent 6 years with inability to implement Bills with majority in the House. Problematic.
  19. Never heard of this lad before Singing Saw (AOTY contender 2016) and his new release isnt bad too.
  20. Black Mirror season 3 is probably favourite thing i've seen this year. Up there with Stranger Things. Episode 6 is brilliant and not looked it up but wouldn't be surprised if the sync music was done by the same people who did Utopia. Great TV.
