  1. Mouthwatering stuff ahead. Truly it is, for some reason, might be cos Chez has had a bairn, I'm humming La Marseillais involuntarily. I hope France win for my bet tonight to be honest, and Uruguay are dirty bastards. I want them to do well as England v France (semi?) would be fucking great.
  2. Joined the Dad's club on weds morning, mother, baby and father all doing fine. Thought i should announce it. Completely mental stuff. Cracking open that Glenfiddich 30 on sat night with the England game to celebrate.
  3. It is the fault of the environmentalists who forced the deep exploration so far offshore it became dangerous and Dick Cheney for setting the regulatory agenda. That was the view of a senior oil industry consultant i spoke to last week.
  4. That I found it funny or you don't know what it refers to?
  5. Normandy was never french, it means 'Norse men dy' and was populated by Vikings. The Norman invasion only worked because they collaborated with their northern brothers. They didn't speak french either. Aquitaine was owned by us later, to this day some of the oldest and richest families in the region have Anglo-saxon names. French was not spoken there either.
  6. Economics editor of Newsnight just said in his opinion the cuts will cause a double-dip recession.
  7. Why the fuck are we taking macro economic advice from a bunch of fucking risk assessors in the fucking first place? Would they be the same risk assessors who looked at risky sub-prime mortgages that had been lumped together and had no clue what the risk was so just gave them a thumbs up and slapped a triple A sticker on them to keep the financial industry happy? I would laugh it if was even remotely funny.

  9. What if that person had a cockney accent and was clearly minted?
  10. Nothing. If someone has the money to pay for 10000 tickets if he wanted, whats the moral issue involved in selling it at a small premium. Its only immoral if its a poor kid with no extra money to afford to eat or drink for the rest of the day or something.
  11. I would most definitely but its not the Conservative way, most of whom probably still believe we are heavily taxed or living in 'rip off Britain'. They've already plucked an arbritrary figure of 80% cuts and 20% tax increases, haven't they? There's no logic in that, just pure tory ideology. Labours figures were going to be 70% cuts and 30% tax increases. Not much difference really Link? We should neither be cutting spending or raising taxes, we should be stimulating the economy. This will reduce the deficit in a much more effective way. By the way, i dont come from a 'theoretical position' on these issues CT, i come from an evidence-based perspective. Macro models are built on data from history, its not theoretical physics. They might not handle shocks very well (it wouldnt be a shock if you could see it coming) but they do predict things like the Japanese experience since 1996 for example.
  12. The Canadian model is just a process which involved people in the decision making process, tomake th changes more politicallyacceptable. To claim that those cuts led to an economic recovery is mental and very wrong

  14. I think this will be a draw but we will win the next two and qualify.

  16. It all boils down to this, if interest rates dont go up after a boost to spending (they would if inflation 'expectations' rise) then a increase in government spending of £100bn would lead to boost in production of £150bn. If those interest rates then stay put, this virtually pays for itself without impacting future private investments. http://delong.typepad.com/sdj/2010/06/we-n...ficits-now.html
  17. Rooney will be a one man striker in some games, and Steven Gerrard will be the one playing off him from deep. Rooney is better than Shearer in my view, as much as people will want to slap me for that, and Gerrard in that role is better than Sheringham. Ferdinand will clearly be better than Crouch in some peoples eyes, but the big mans 21 international goals to Les' 5 suggest Peter has had a better impact at international level. Agree tbh about Roonney/Shearer but not at all about Ferdinand/Crouch. Les didnt get that many chances to play for England given the fact we didnt qualify for 94 and didnt need to for 96 and he was behind Shearer and Sheringham as a partnership. I know Les is better but Crouch is a good striker, he's as good as Zigic who everyone creams themselves over. Good point about 94 and 96 with Ferdinand, I think Ian Wright had amazin ability too and didn't get anywhere near as many caps as his talents meritted. Dont get me wrong, i think Crouch is a decent player but his role in our current team is far from clear if we assume Rooney starts each match. I reckon Ferdinand would have been a better foil for Rooney.

  19. Owen was a disaster but only the most mean spirited would assign blame to the chairman or the owners at the time for his lack of success here.
  20. Compare our 1998 WC strikers vs our 2010 WC strikers
  21. Why? Its the financial crisis and the subsequent recession that caused the deficit to rise to unmanageable levels, not e.g. NHS funding increases from 2000-2010. BTW "all the corporation tax" is about 15% lower than it was 2 years ago. Also, as me and Parky have been hinting recently, dont hold your wealth in money, get it in assets.
  22. Was reading the Grauniad this morning (sorry Leazes) and they reckon the Glazers have mortgages on all of their shopping malls with many of the malls having rents lower than the repayments. The made 9m profit last year from 68 shopping malls in total but a lot of their other business is at risk. Made me think, they dont sound like they are that rich, just leveraged to fuck on a load of assets.
  23. but, but ......... they have a 5 year plan !!! Wonderful line in the current "True Faith" describing Ashley's five year plans being like a "fat lass always promising to go on a diet - the start date constantly gets moved back!" Fuckers stole my line: http://www.toontastic.net/board/index.php?...mp;#entry739323 Blatantly. Plagiarising cunts. No-one's mentioned the Carroll to Chelsea rumours yet either.
