Alan Pardew - Alan fucking Pardew CH possibly wasn't the greatest coach in the world, but he was overachievng spectacularly with the tools available. He rebuilt the dignity, spirit and team ethic. he made me proud. We have squandered all the positives of his time in the job for Alan Pardew You might have a point about CH's long term viability but hold on ...Alan Pardew I too was more livid about KK and the renaming of the ground, but only because I'm resigned and depressed. I took my stand when KK got sacked and cancelled my season ticket. Understandably a tough couple of days for many reasons, but I think some of the reaction is a bit over the top once you stop to think things through. I liked Chris Hughton because he was a nice guy, a decent guy, reminded me a bit of Sir Bob and was a breath of fresh and stability following the departure of Special K. I cant say Chris Hughtons style of football is this or that or he was showing signs of being a great tactician or any other qualities you associate with great Managers. Was he a good man manager or just a soft touch? Its well documented about the gang of four running the show. Did he have a vision? A Plan? etc etc Again I dont know. Yes Ashleys a cunt. Yes Chris could have had more to spend? Yes the pis poor squad didnt help our recent form? But again when I think of Chris the words Dignified comes to mind and while that was a breath of fresh air, at the end of the day its probably not enough. As an optimist I would like to think he could have grown into the job and everything would have worked out, but usually nice guys come last. A lot of stuff is coming out about the crap he had to put up with. Was it dignified just to accept it or should he have done what KK and most managers would have done. Was he a Yes Man. If it was Martin Jol or Martin Oneil getting unveiled tomorrow, most wouldnt miss Chris too much. Unfortunately its looking like Pardew. While thats a big Anti climax, Im not sure its leaving us worse off than under Chris, and it might even leave us better off. (Time will tell). But its certainly not something to boycott over or never go back, its just another chapter of many. I was more livid about KK and more livid about the renaming of the ground. I'll expect the usual contrary slavver but for the time being, Pardew will get my backing.

Watched Its a wonderful life too many times Newcastle put 5 past Liverpool and everyone gets on with life. Pardew gets some honeymoon cash to spend in January and brings in a few signings that make an immediate impact. Wins continue and we climb the table fighting all the way to the end for that last European spot. Ashleys five year plan is cut short due to a quatar buy out. Pardew turns out to be the next Alex Ferguson and the trophy room is quickly extended to cope with all the silverware. 20 years pass by, success after success. That's actually a pretty good question as it gets to the core of what is currently wrong with NUST in a lot of people's view. There can be a 'supporter's club' running succesfully alongside an equivilent 'supporters trust'; Arsenal provide a very good example of this working extremely well. http://www.arsenaltrust.org/ http://www.arsenalsupportersclub.co.uk/ Having two seperate organisations meant that their trust was able to (succesfully) focus solely on pursuing options to acquire a stake in the club while their supporters club got on with ground level fan issues. Of course that doesn't mean that a supporters trust can't decide to do both with a good measure of success, either, as can be seen by the Manchester United Supporters Trust who have managed to acquire significant capital funding to purchase a stake with fantastic campaign of opposition to their present owners. http://action.joinmust.org/index.php/blog They're not any closer to actually getting a stake though, despite funds of over £1M banked and perhaps that's telling. NUST is a lot younger than both of these groups and is sometimes apparently trying to cover miles in minutes leading to multiple crossroads with its identity. I personally believe that there is absolutely a need for a supporters trust pursuing a stake in the club but that there is also a need for legitimate fan representation that isn't just a fanzine talking head. It may well be that Arsenal's model might be a good one for us to pursue. It would allow us to seperate the protest and the ground level fan issues from the long term aims of obtaining a stake in the club. At the same time the inevitable image of 'rabble rousers' needn't then be a concern to the Trust in pursuing the cooperation of key figures within the city. There will of course be jokes about the Judean peoples front, etc, but that's why its important to have a clear and well set-out vision; something that has been lacking at NUST post elections. There is precedent to show that such a model can be succesful and satisfy all concerned. Maybe its worth NUST looking into...if indeed they arn't already doing so.
