Apparently " my little cabbage" is an affectionate term in French.

They all look the same, eh? Racialist.

Don't recall length of resuscitation being in the guidelines, it's down to clinical judgement. Unless you get to look at the rhythm strip for Muamba you're not going to know exactly what happened from his doctors' explanations in lay terms. It was 78 minutes before he had a sustained output; he may well have been in and out of shockable rhythms, PEA, aystole, in between periods of having an output. If someone's asystolic for half an hour that's a different story. It will have been cooling that's made the difference neurologically.

Indeed. Rather fitting that despite it concerning the title race PaddockLad has chosen to post this in the "small time blather" thread, because all this bollocks is just, well bollocks.

Excited, momentous, a bit scared and slightly nauseous. This has the potential to be a truly vital few months. As I move towards the end of my core anaesthetic training, next week I've got two job interviews for higher training in the specialty, which lasts a minimum of four years and takes me up to the point I apply for consultant posts. One of these is for London, which has been a gnawing ambition for the last two years. I've just received formal invitation to my dan (black belt) grading this summer, which will be the pinnacle of my time in jiujitsu and something I have been working towards for many years. To top it all off I've met someone who is truly remarkable, who bizarrely yet fortunately thinks the same of me and I've got a feeling this could be it. Take the piss all you want (especially about the first two) but these are all things that matter greatly to me and there's a good chance it could all finally come together this year. Just don't fuck it up Luke...

It's not Messi's fault that he's more protected/in a better club side tbf.

Newcastle United vs Dirty Inbred Mackems (Sunderland)
luckyluke replied to Aeris's topic in Newcastle Forum
Quite a range there etc etc etc etc Fines are a bit steep seeing as nothing actually happened. If they were openly brawling then fair enough, but there were just some frank exchanges of views following a nasty tackle in a heated derby, wtf do they expect? -

Disney reckon they're gonna lose $200 million (£126m) on John Carter. Ouch! -

If I was anaesthetising a child and they urgently needed blood then I would give it to them regardless of their parents' wishes, and I believe the courts would back my actions.

I work in Anaesthetics and ICU, not A&E, and I see the after effects of these resuscitations, which are frequently catastrophic, especially with prolonged down times (by which I mean half an hour) Either that 2 hour figure isn't quite right or he had some bloody good CPR. Either way, delighted to be wrong.

Well we had Hugo Viana a few years back...

Moving all four limbs and even speaking apparently, which is nothing short of miraculous!

Aye, I thought this morning that if his brain has been starved of oxygen for two hours it really doesn't look good for the poor lad. Whats the best the family can expect do you think? Honestly? That his relatives are screened for heart abnormalities amenable to treatment that will prevent future tragedies. I really hope I'm wrong.

Well if they can cancel one for Princess Di...on the other hand, without wanting to continue to be pessimistic, I predict they'll be cancelling more games come next weekend. Although having looked at the beeb Blackburn are already willing to cancel their game if Bolton aren't ready, and there is talk of them pulling out of the FA cup because it will be too traumatic for them to go back to WHL. As sad as Muamba's case is (and he's not even dead yet) I think this is taking it too far.

Pathetic isn't he, especially how he tries to pin the blame on his daughter.

Just heard on the radio they didn't get return of spontaneous circulation (his heart beating on its own) for 2 hours. I think he's fucked tbh, poor kid, 23 is no age.

Therapeutic cooling is a treatment to attempt to protect the brain from what I was talking about in my post. It's as simple as it sounds - you cool the patient (sedated and ventilated of course) down from a normal body temperature of 37 degrees C to between 32-34 degrees by a variety of methods, and maintain them at this low temperature for 24 hours. It makes the brain less active, reduces its need for oxygen and prevents it from swelling. It's been show to significantly improve neurological outcomes following arrests, however overall picture is still poor - patients are frequently just down for too long. Yes Cath, we do, including for the two patients I mentioned in my post. Both had downtimes (time without heart beating) of at least 20 minutes as well.
