Due to the status of both clubs at the time and the difficulty in overturning such precendents I don't think the 4-3 will be pipped (at least according to Sky) anytime soon. The former means this game/ours with Arsenal hasn't overtaken it and the latter means that even the 3-3 draw between Man U and Chelsea in January hasn't really caused much of a stir by comparison. The 4-3 was a game between historical and contemporary giants with major ramifications for the title race and crucially was the first that Sky could really jump up and down about so they're not going to replace it as The Greatest Ever anytime soon.

I acknowledge the points made by MT/CT - like I said, different circumstances apply to the examples I mentioned and us. I don't expect us to disappoint next season, but however good your team is you can still follow a good season with a duffer.

It's not a fluke in that it's happened by chance, but plenty of teams have had great seasons as a "one off" (remember Ipswich finishing fifth then getting relegated, or the mackems in seventh for a couple of years before the same happened). Obviously different circumstances apply but it goes to show that teams can fade after having a great year, and we need to be wary of such a fate befalling us.

This has happened because players are not punished for it and has now developed into the farcial situation where the sport is essentially non contact inside the area. Look at Ashley Young - he gets Derry sent off, the appeal is rejected and he goes unpunished, so what does he do? Goes down quicker than a whore's knickers the following week again. I don't know what Craig is on about that retrospective bans would set dangerous precendents. There is a world of difference between diving - an active effort to simulate an offence - and claiming a dubious goal/corner/throw in where you are trying to convince the referee to believe something that has already happened. And for fuck's sake, if by some remote possiblity chaos did reign you could always revoke the law, but something needs to be done. Obviously it used to happen quite regularly with Wednesday in the top flight until their relegation in 2000 (season we beat em 8-0, Shearer's five goals). Have they played there since? Such is the mentality of their fans these days, if/when they next play there I'd fully expect a big hoo har, wreaths laid down, minute's silence etc despite there never being such a fuss made of it (as far as I can recall) when both teams occupied the same division.
