  1. I think you would have won that bet if he had played the entire game
  2. How in the world can you say "good game" when it was an awful game! Sure the result was what we wanted but it should have been a better performence than what it was. AND, Mr Gemmill, I know I am a whingeing old shite but it comes from watching too many poor games that should have been good ones.
  3. Is Dyer still on the field? haven't seen him for a while.
  4. Can't believe Pattison for Butt, I have to question Roeder now unless Butt is hurt.
  5. This is getting worse! They are imposing more of a threat than we are.
  6. This is absolutely depressing! So much possesion and so little threat. Martins is contributing little to the attack and Luque even less. If it hadn't been for two brilliant tackles by Bramble & Taylor we could well have been losing two nowt at half-time.
  7. Oh dear me, off your medication again eh? You know you're supposed to take it every day since you had the lobotomy or it'll be back to the mental hospital again.
  8. I was looking at that and thinking fucking hell, that really is dreadful. I remember results were bad but I didn't realise they were that bat under Ossie. Then I realised 10 wins + 39 defeats = more than 47 games. What should that stat be? EDIT: quick check reveals it should be 19 defeats. Still pretty shit like. SORRY, typo error. have corrected it.
  9. No way did I forget McGarry!! I just chose managers who were in charge for about 50 or less games, McGarry was in charge for 118, Livingstone for 99, Dalglish for 78, and Gordon Lee for 74. Actually I don't fault the board for hiring Ossie Ardilles even though his record was atrocious, he had the Lads playing good football but unfortuately it didn't win us games. If Ossie had proved to be a success at winning games we may never have seen Keegan as manager.

    Ian Rush

We did that once before and he only scored one goal for us
  11. As I said, shame our previous worthy directors - who were just as good as their successors - didn't appoint him when he was in his prime. He obviously just didn't fall into their laps as a stroke of luck. Noelie will perhaps cast his experienced and knowledgeable eye in at this point and englighten us .. The sacking of Robson after only 4 games into the season(2 losses, 2 draws) was not only shocking but a horrendous mistake made by the current board in view of the fact they had no one waiting in the wings to take over. The subsequent hiring of Souness(someone with a less than creditable track-record) was also a terrible mistake by the current board, and obviously one made in desperation after making the first big mistake. However, when one considers prior boards to current boards you have to go back to 1961 to see the poor choices of managers. Norman Smith..............35 Games............Won 12............Lost 15. Richard Dinnis..............40 Games............Won 12............Lost 18. Jack Charlton...............48 Games............Won 15............Lost 18. Ossie Ardilles...............47 Games.............Won10.............Lost 39. Ruud Gullit...................52 Games.............Won 18............Lost 20. It's hard to tell in which period did which board have the thickest of short planks but my vote goes to the ones who sacked Robson and hired Souness.
  12. what amazed me is all those years Bobby Robson was at Ipswich, yet never professed any desire or inclination to come home and manage Newcastle, despite us changing our manager lots of times. Do you have any theories about this ? I don't think managers are in the habit of openly professing where they'd like to be when they are already settled comfortly in a job, as Bobby was with Ipswich. I think they make their inner feelings known if their name appears on the radar screen for a position at any club, and the welcome-mat is out. Bobby's success at Ipswich was instrumental in getting him the England job, and after that was over it was PSV Eindoven who put out the welcome-mat for him. I don't recall any English clubs clamouring for him at that time and managers most often seem to go where the best offers are.
  13. KEEGAN.........Played 251.......Won 138.......Lost 62.......Drew 52. ROBSON.........Played 255.......Won 119.......Lost 72.......Drew 64. Keegan had the better record but it doen't alter the fact that Bobby's sacking was totally disgraceful and shouldn't have happened.
  14. The 'Bald-Heads' are a natural phenomenon found mostly on the west coast of England especially near the Wirral, Bootle, the Liver Building, and Anfield, but are also found in other regions. 'Beer-Bellies' are worked-for, paid-for, man-made rotund creations that are found world-wide in every country but are more common in Lancashire.
  15. He's not as owld as me but he's got more hair................... & money.

It's fair to say racism and bigotry is not directed at one particular race or colour although the black race seem to bear the brunt.. Many years ago I remember a coversation going on between two of my aunts in the presence of my grandmother about a local girl having a relationship with a "darkie" and having a "coloured" baby. My dear old grandmother piped in saying, "could be worse, could be a Jap" Obviously her thoughts and feelings were driven by the fact that one of my uncles had been captured by those " slant-eyed yellow bastards" who had not treated him as nicely as those "square-headed kraut bastards" had treated another of my uncles. Deep down inside is there a trace of racism in all of us that we would protest and vehemently deny?

I think some of the problems we have today and labeled racism are due to this inane drive for political correctness and the loss of past values when things were said without a meaning of disrespect. I recall that in my younger days "nigger brown" merely meant a dark brown and it was a common expression used mostly by girls to describe the colour of their new shoes or coats, and there was nothing racist about it. When Agatha Christie wrote her book "Ten Little Niggers" I don't think she meant it as a racist expression, however it was changed later to "Ten Little Indians". Sooner or later the Indian tribes may make a fuss about that!! Fancy a cup of "black" coffee? oooooh. Things are often said in the heat of the moment and not really meant to be taken the way they sometimes are. If a black guy called me a white something or other I think I'd burst out laughing, after all I am white.
  18. aye he sat right next to Tony Blair in the Gallowgate and watched Hughie set up the winning goal in the Yuffa for Jackie to score nah, that was Noelie, the lifelong Newcastle fan who sat in the Galloway End in the 1980's Don't recall any seats in the 'Galloway End', in fact don't recall any 'Galloway End' unless in your infinite wisdom you meant the wall at the back of the Gallowgate end, or the barriers on the terraces in the Gallowgate end. never mind Noelie. You've just shown up your cluelessness again You mean there was a 'Galloway End' in the 1980's, there was seating, and I sat there? WOW! I am clueless not remembering the 'Galloway End'. Or maybe you meant 'Gallowgate End' but it's beneath you to admit you made a mistake.

  20. Mr. Renton has it right, LeazesMag has been sussed big time by Noelie and he can't handle the situation so is desperately trying to get out of the hole he has dug for himself but in fact he's making the hole deeper and neebugger will hoy him a rope.
  21. My views are based on first hand experience of being close to the club and its fortunes over the last few decades etc, unlike yours. This may be above your head LeazesMag, but I don't need to be on the floor at the Stock-Exchange to know what is going on in the world of business & commerce. A bit ironic you harp on about having the last word, then tell me not to do the same !!!! It's even more ironic that you are harping on about everything when you sense you are losing a battle of wits. As I said, if you can't see how far forward the current board have taken the club, it proves my point completely. In view of the fact I have not made any mention, at any time, in any topic, of any board new or old, just what is your point? Shame, but I just knew that you would not deny that it is the current board who attracted your interest again, that you now slate. My interest in Newcastle United has NEVER been generated by any board, current or past, my interest is geared by love and loyalty and it's a shame you say I 'now slate the current board'. I defy you to find any topic wherein I have slated any board. But all the KK bandwagon jumpers do the same, they must be pretty pissed off that they came back to the club because they thought we would win stuff and are now complaining like big bairns that they now view all their efforts to have been in vain. Surely you can't be suggesting I belong to these 'bandwagon jumpers', but then you probably are because it suits you to do that. KK wasn't around in the 40's, 50's, 60's, ...........shall I go on? I also knew you wouldn't answer my question asking you to name recent players who have left the club for reasons of ambition and to win things, like previous players did, because you quite simply can't. What point are you trying to make here, and why would you be asking me that? Explain please. Instead of simply insulting someone because you say they are wrong, why not show us your intelligence [that you say you have], like an adult, answer these questions and prove that I am wrong ? You would love to prove me wrong and you know it, but you can't. Don't recall saying I have intelligence(in another topic I do recall saying I'd had a brain tumour) but I do recall questioning yours. And what exactly am I trying to prove you wrong in, make a list please. And as for insults, I think you have been trying to insult me but as someone said(and I know who it was) "wise men can insult me, no other can". You could also study the league positions during the 30 odd years before this board took over, with your telescople Here you go again, what is your problem about 'boards'? I think you've got me mixed up with someone else because I have NEVER made comments about any 'board', at any time. I think it is fantastically funny that someone who has lived where you have for all those years can profess to have knowledge like others who have supported the club over these decades. Keep it up Glad you find humour in people overseas supporting their team but, read your words again and see the nonsense in it. Now. Answer the question about our best players wanting to leave, look at the league tables, and prove me wrong. Its all yours. Can't quite figure out why you want me to answer that question, and just what do you want me to prove you wrong about? You must have hidden agendas that no-one's clear about.
  22. From what I'm reading, Martins has had a number of shots but can't get one in(other than the penalty)
  23. and directors coming into the club who are automatically better than the current board isn't hypothetical nonsense ? Someone of your age should be less idealistic and more realistic than that. If anything, such a comment shows me how out of touch you are with the football club, but I realised that ages ago, as I have said already. not an apology, I basically couldn't give a toss where you live. Shame, I see you as someone who thinks he knows about the club but basically forgot about it when it was really crap. I bet your interest in the club has been revived by the very board you slate ? but are too stupid to accept or admit it. You could listen to anyone who has followed the club - properly - more than you. But I don't give a toss if you do that either, if you trot out the usual shit that KK bandwagon jumpers spout I would continue to point out you have zero perspective through lack of knowledge of what the current board took over in 1992. I think the height of arrogance and stupidity is to refuse to admit that someone closer to the club doesn't have more awareness than yourself. All clubs sell players ? I thought you said you knew your football Your comment here does nothing other than completely prove you have no idea of how poor the club was when they sold local lads like Gazza, Waddle and Beardsley and the impact it had on the subsequent fortunes of the club, due to using the money gained on building a stand and shopping around the 3rd division for replacements. I am pleased you seem to be unaware of this, but I guessed that already. You could also tell us how many locally born England players - or any other player - have wanted to leave the club in recent times for reasons of ambition and the desire to win things ? Do that, and substantiate your point, that the current board doesn't have an altogether more ambitious outlook than the one YOU defend, if you can. To be honest, I know a bloke who saw the 50's too, and he paints a vastly different picture to how the club developed since that time to the one you do in comparison to the club nowadays. But that is because he - unlike you - has witnessed first hand how the club plummeted after those times. Keep watching the news, but buy a better telescope Don't need a better telescope son, with the one I've got I can see clearly what you are, and what you're made of and sadly what I see has little substance and no value. What I see is an egotistical soap-box orator who opines the world around him know nothing and he knows everything. Someone who lacks the intelligence to recognize when he is making a fool of himself and being goaded into making himself an even bigger fool by trying so hard to belittle and outdo an old gadgee who has him dangling like a puppet and is pulling the strings. Give it a rest son, you can't win this one with your pedantic rhetoric and fixation on 1992. Bow out as gracefully as you can and don't continue to make youself a laughing stock in the eyes of your peers by trying to have the last word. I don't need a telescope laddie. You never give up do you son, even when it's you who is spouting a load of rubbish as you have clearly shown in this topic, and others. When you get committed let me know the visiting hours and I'll see if I can get someone, anyone, to come and see you.

  25. Although I like and greatly admire Shearer, and he has been a great asset to Newcastle, I think perhaps a statue may be a little over the top unless it's in the distant future. There's are differences between wor Jackie and wor Alan that should be looked at before another statue to a player is set in motion. Basically wor Jackie was a one-club man and came to us from the pits, whereas wor Alan came to us via Southampton and Blackburn and cost us a pretty penny in doing so. Of course Alan beat Jackie's goal scoring record but if you take into consideration the number of goals he scored from the penalty spot and not the open field you may find that Jackie was perhaps the better goal-scorer. In 50 years time will the name Shearer have the same clout as Milburn does today? I'd like to think so even though I won't be around.
