  1. We need a Director of football asap tbh
  2. Might end up playing in the middle at some point I reckon. off the front man perhaps? he played there a fair bit when he started out with villa. i'd like to see him and dyer swap positions occasionally. I think he could be our version of Paul Scholes if played in the middle tbh (although not as good before Sima points it out)
  3. I'd guess Martins took a lot, and Duff we got "cheap" (at least in fee if not wages), but our wage bill is huge (dispite the squad being small), and I don't think its a coincidence that both our major targets were loan signings (although I expect there's a bit of not wanting to potentially waste the money we have until the summer when hopefully a bit of genuine rebuilding - not just injury filling in - can occur). But the sort of strikers and CBs and LBs we're after you're probably talking £6,000,000+ at least for, and it seems we don't have the cash, at least not in January, for 2 or 3 of those at the moment. We bid for Huth after we'd signed Martins. He went to Boro for £6million. Duff was £5million. Milner's move to Villa would have financed the deal. I thought he was financing the Viduka deal? I think he was going to finance whatever panic buy we could get our hands on, whether it was Huth, Viduka or Zat Knight. BTW Roeder did try and sign a let back, Traore on loan from Arsenal, other than that the only other left back I can only think of that moved was Michael Ball from PSV to Man City.

  5. I can see Milner getting the player of the month award for January.
  6. It bounced off the top of the bar, definitely not a corner.
  7. Martins headers over the bar. Lets keep this scoreline until half time ffs.
  8. We're all over the fucking place
  9. Harper Carr Taylor Bramble Huntington Milner Butt Parker Duff Dyer Martins
  10. According to the same sources that claim we're signing Babel and SWP. Didn't the lad on N-O say it was from Eurosport? I didn't read the whole thread properly.
  11. Horton: No bids in for Barnes By Steve Nicholson Derby County say they have not received any offers for midfielder Giles Barnes. The 18-year-old was left out of the 16 on duty for last night's 1-0 Championship victory over Burnley at Pride Park. This has sparked further speculation over his future at the club with the transfer window set to close at midnight tonight. Barnes has continually been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur but Rams managing director Mike Horton said before the Burnley game: "If the number of people who have been reported as being interested in Giles phoned me, I would be a very busy man. "We have still not had any serious phone calls about him." First-team coach Julian Darby said Barnes had been left out because of squad rotation. "We have strength in depth. There will be changes and players will be rested," he added. "Giles played against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, as did Seth Johnson and Richard Jackson, who were also not involved against Burnley." Derby have made five signings during the January window, splashing out around £3.7m on David Jones, Craig Fagan, Gary Teale, Stephen Pearson and Jay McEveley. Manager Billy Davies would also like to add West Ham United full-back Tyrone Mears to his squad, possibly on loan, and is keen on bringing in another striker. But Horton said he did not expect "fireworks" on the final day of transfer business. He suggested one or two may come in and one or two could leave, adding: "I can't see there being any huge revelations but the window means one phone call could change all that. "If the price is right and the opportunity is there, we will always look to take advantage of it." The official close of play today is midnight but the funds or deposits for significant transfers must be lodged within normal banking hours.
  12. Apparently Frederic Piquionne is having a medical at Monaco.
  13. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised...
  14. We'd encounter the same problem with Barton/Parker as we do with Emre/Parker, you can bet that Roeder would ask Barton to sit deep so that Parker can get forward.
  15. An obscene amount for a mediocre player. If it goes through Wist 'Am have been robbed blind. Better value than Bent for £18m though? I'd rather pay £18 million for Bent than £7.5 million for an average, injury prone defender in his late 20's tbh.
  16. What becomes of the broken hearted? It's the follow up to Once were warriors and is based around the gang culture in New Zealand, if you enjoyed the first one you'll definitely enjoy this.
  17. Consortium pulls out of Reds bid Dubai International Capital has pulled out of proposed takeover of Liverpool. The announcement follows the failure of the club's board to formally accept DIC's bid in the wake of a second offer from American George Gillett. DIC claimed the offer had been accepted in principle by majority shareholder David Moores but they were unable to make a formal offer to shareholders. DIC chief executive Sameer Al Ansari said the group was disappointed but added: "We won't overpay for assets."
  18. Shepherd did supposedly did want him, for a good while. Hope to fuck that's off the radar now. Further evidence of the good job Shepherd is doing running the club btw. Courting Steve Bruce ffs. Steve Bruce admits he still thinks about his decision to turn down the offer to manage boyhood club Newcastle United. The Premiership side came calling two-and-a-half years ago following their decision to dismiss Sir Bobby Robson, only for Bruce to spurn their advances. Earlier this season and with 'Bruce out' chants ringing around St Andrews, the Newcastle-born tactician must have been ruing his decision to turn his back on a switch to St James' Park. However, Bruce has overseen a transformation of the club's fortunes and they now play Newcastle on Saturday in an FA Cup tie sitting top of the Championship and favourites to win promotion. It is, though, with genuine affection that Bruce talks of Newcastle as he reflects on the biggest decision of his career in management. "I am a typical Geordie, who is black and white through and through," he told the Sunday Express. "You talk about big decisions in your life. To get the opportunity to manage them was probably the biggest compliment I've had in football. "Bloody hell, Newcastle wanted me! "It was the hardest decision I've had to make. But to have taken the job would have meant letting down the people here at Birmingham. "I always wonder whether I've closed the door on a dream. As a player I'd always wanted to play for them and then I was given the chance to manage them." Turned down by Steve Bruce. Jesus Wept!
  19. It isn't 3 clubs anytime in a 12 month period, the rule is you can't play a competitive game for 3 different clubs between July 1st and June 30th.
