Newcastle United's surge up the table has alerted the Premier League that Glenn Roeder's side may face a play-off with Blackburn Rovers for a European place next season. United and Blackburn are not only level on points, but they have the same goals tally and the same goals against, leaving them sharing sixth place in the table. Blackburn do have a game in hand - their match with Chelsea at Ewood Park which was put on ice last weekend because of the FA Cup semi-finals. If things stay this way, Premiership rules state that in order to decide qualification for Europe a play-off would have to be held at a neutral venue. If this happens United would have to go somewhere like Elland Road for a play-off after their final Premiership game with Chelsea at St James' Park on May 7. And this would obviously have an averse affect on what promises to be Tyneside's biggest night for many years - the Alan Shearer testimonial on May 11. Meanwhile, it's been a good week for United on the Premiership front. After Wigan's undeserved defeat at Fulham on Monday night, United were pleased to see West Ham lose at home to Liverpool in last night's FA Cup dress rehearsal. This means West Ham can only reach 55 points - compared with United's 54 at the moment - and the Hammers have an inferior goal difference. Glenn Roeder is too much a sport and gentleman to say it, but it would be great for him if United finished higher in the table than West Ham after they showed him the Upton Park door. I am told that the way Roeder has dragged United from being a side threatened by relegation into one which now has a chance of qualifying for Europe has not gone down too well inside the portals of Upton Park.

...somehow i was yet to finish my dissertation which was due to be handed in today at 3pm. Ended up having to do an all nighter so have been on the go since 6.30am yesterday.. Ah well, one essay and an exam then its back to working in the real world again...

Aye, lets stop turning our noses up at Roeder. But we can rip into a guy who has won the league in France and 6 trophies in his time in England...
-
Moore can tackle..
-
I still think we are going to see a combination of Houllier and Roeder..
-
Do you think the likes of Bolton do? They have put in some good performances against the top teams in recent seasons..
-
Without someone like Houllier on board also i just cannot see it. What with this perhaps being the Fatmans last roll of the dice to get it right it really would be a risk.

Newcastle United - Management plans take shape EXC
Scottish Mag replied to afternoonfix's topic in Newcastle Forum
So do you think Houllier should "go upstairs" in a DOF position? I personally think it will be unlikely he would and if he came he would want to manage the team. However i would expect Roeder to be first team coach, well he better be I do not want Phil fucking Thompson anywhere near our team. -
He always had decent games against the likes of Sutton and Hartson up here where it was purely a physical battle, Larsson on the other hand caused him many problems. For me this has been evident even for us where against the likes of Jason Roberts and Kevin Campbell, yes he has and will do a job, but he wasn't completely convincing against Robbie Keane, Darren Bent etc..
-
Also makes good reading when you think Souness stated he was a 20 goal a season man, its taken him 6 years to get 25...
-
Based on him looking shite in the SPL I did. However whilst i will give credit where credit is due for his form as of late my opinion has not changed all that much of him yet especially when you consider the opposition he has been up against. Yes he'll come in and do a job battling away but i still have doubts as to his ability against the better strikers. Isegrim will agree he often relies on being a dirty B*stard when playing agaisnt decent strikers and this was seen against Spurs where IMO he should have been sent off for two stupid tackles. I hope he proves me wrong and continues the good form as I have been telling people this side of the border that he has been playing well however we also need to remember having filled Boumsongs shoes it would not take much to impress. *On another note the stories are still rife that Boumsong will be returning to Rangers with the latest being that the story is circulating within France too*

NOLBERTO Solano continued his climb up Newcastle United's Premiership goalscoring chart with his close range effort in Saturday's 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion. The Peruvian's first-half effort at the Gallowgate End was his 35th league goal for the Magpies, putting him in outright fifth spot in the list ahead of former colleague Robert Lee. Shola Ameobi stays in ninth position, but his brace against the Baggies puts him closer to Craig Bellamy and Gary Speed. The Top Ten reads: 1 Alan Shearer 148 2 Peter Beardsley 46 3 Andy Cole 43 4 Les Ferdinand 41 5 Nolberto Solano 35 6 Robert Lee 34 7 Gary Speed 29 8 Craig Bellamy 27 9 Shola Ameobi 25 10 Laurent Robert 22
