small shop near where I live has 2 for sale. One has windows 7, HD ready, 2 gigs RAM and a 220 gig Hard drive {I think he said that] for £150 quid second hand. If this is the going rate I'm more than happy with that, and said I would think about it. As I said, this is only a laptop for mainly internet use only, so I don't need spare hard disk space or anything, although I suppose I could use it as additional backup along with my external hard drive which is also only about 30% full of music and backup files. Thanks for the info I'll look at all of this.

however odious some ManU supporters may be, they are a great club, Alex Ferguson is a great manager, and did anybody think a club with the likes of Tevez and Ballotelli and the way they have behaved is a cause to rejoice at winning the premiership ? Great to have other people speaking for you here. Personally, I didn't want either of them to win it.

I've had desktop PC's since the days of Ms-Dos 5, and an internet connection since 56k modems, but I've never had a laptop and never wanted one. I still prefer a proper desktop PC, and I've got my current one using windows xp and a spare one with decent spec also using windows xp. But I'm thinking about getting a laptop, so I can take it away with me etc. I am not paying for a new one because essentially I still prefer a desktop and probably always will, I hate that pad that you use instead of a mouse for starters - I would continue using a mouse. I'm not bothered about high spec or anything, just so long as it has windows xp and the web is fairly quick and efficient. So does anybody know any places in town that sell 2nd hand good condition laptops ? There was a few places that did this when I lived in Scarborough, so surely there will be such a place in Newcastle? If I get one, what will I need to get the internet, either sitting in my house or someone else's ? Will it have a built in dongle or whatever ? What if I use it in a house which doesn't have a PC in it, which I will ?

you will still only have 1 team to beat.

Sky TV was going bust until they bought the football, the football saved Sky Tv, or it certainly took off big time when they got that contract. Anyway HF, I don't really agree with the comments about video technology. I'm not saying they have to stop the game all the time, anything but, but the referee should be able to call on the technology whenever he sees fit. It would only take seconds, no more than consulting with his linesman when there is a 4th official in the stand that can use the video replay. It is up to the ref, if he doesn't want to use it, then it is completely 100% his decision not to use the technology. But it is for the good of the game, and not the armchair supporter. Englands "goal" in the World Cup by Lampard was a clear goal and should have been given, and Carrolls header in the Cup Final was not over the line and I don't see the fuss about it, it clearly was not over the line, it never looked like it was over the line, he maybe ought to have scored but it was a great save.

Newcastle United - 7th largest fanbase in England?
LeazesMag replied to PrideOfBirmingham's topic in Newcastle Forum
exactly. Mad isn't it -
Many thanks for the replies. I must admit that I can do whatever I want with a PC if I spend the time to suss it out, but I just like to get on with something and get it done, I've been using dvd shrink to copy disks for a few years now. I realise it is out of date, so I'll have a look at these downloads and try them out. Will they download "The Bombmaker" to my PC and then burn it to a disk ? Will it do the whole film or in the 3 parts ? And is there anything in particular to pay attention to when you do it ?

As I said mate, it can be heavy going, but you can read it for a while, read something else then go back to it. It is unique in its own way. Its a book that HF, Parky, Chez, Stevie would like going by how they come across on here, and JawD [the first names that popped into my head].

Brian Clough once said that live TV would kill the game. That hasn't really been proved correct, but how do you think the game has changed due to TV, and how do you think that TV has changed due to the game ?
-
I agree with that too. The day I support France before England is the day I give up.
-
absolutely agree. You should read this book Stevie [as should others]. which explains all about the odds, chances, historical patterns, impact of population, economies, traditions, attitudes and expectations of supporters, methods to gain success, relevance of transfer fees and wages to football clubs, in every shape or form you could care to think of as regards football clubs. It explains and demonstrates how football is different to any other business using facts, figures, statistics, patterns and history, all in the long term view and projection rather than the short term. Heavy going in places, pick it up when you are in the mood. But it is one of those books that you can read for a while, leave it and pick up again after a few weeks because every chapter and sub-chapter is a factual and demonstrative example of the point it makes in its own right. This book is not for babies, or those inclined to have reactionary, short term or emotionally based judgements, it is only for people who want to educate themselves about football.

they always say "give youth a chance". They say it about every generation. Nothing changes, they are never good enough on the international stage when they play there, they are always over-rated and/or bogged down by expectancy etc and other things. I don't think the current crop are as good as Beckham/Shearer/Scholes and they did nothing other than get knocked out at the quarter finals again, without even having a go at Brazil. I think this team under Sven was in fact the best of the last 15 years or so tbh, and they weren't good enough although Sven's negative approach in that game was a factor. In fact, English football has other problems related to the "failure" of the international team that haven't gone away and aren't going to go away. Anyway, I don't have time for England like I had in the past. Not all of them, but too many of them now are full of their own self importance, thinking they can get away with anything because they are footballers etc.
-
Apart from 2 tournaments, sorry 3, England have been semi-permanent quarter finalists. That is about our standing tbh, somewhere between about 6th and 10th in the World. We have a couple of top players, but that is all. Overall, I would say he may mould them into a team with discipline etc and hard to score against and beat. That is what he seems he is good at doing. Having said that, that is all Greece were and they won the thing.

I used to support England a lot, I went to a lot of games at Wembley between about 1979 and 1985. it was very good, I went with a few other blokes I worked with. Watching Keegan, Brooking etc play was a great experience, England played for a while like a top team with passion, desire and they weren't too detached. I regret not going to the 1982 World Cup when I was a regular England attender and all my booking details etc were held by England and could have applied for tickets to go to Spain. Now though, I barely give a fuck about it for reasons others have mentioned. When Woy got the job, my first impression was that he isnt' good enough, but now I think he could be a smarter appointment than given credit for because he has usually done very well with teams that only have mostly average players.

good one.

who is bothered about the tournament this summer, and how much ? Is anybody going ?
-
probably not many. We have won a fair number of home games though, I think. All Everton have is to finish above Liverpool.
-
I think people should wait and see if the club actually does make further progress from this point before proclaiming it before it happens. Lets hope so.
-
aye, there are literally hundreds of great songs from that era. Great stuff.
-
yes I agree but I think it is entirely realistic to expect them to put 2 new players straight into that team and thus increase the strength on the bench by 2 in the process.
