  1. its strange how Ameobi has survived all these years, despite being a complete donkey for most of the time. He has became quite popular in the last year or so, probably because he hasn't played so much !!!! He will get a testimonial now, a one club man, and will live in folklore for his goals against the mackems alone.
  2. Generally speaking, over the history of football you will find that the highest payers are at the top and the lowest at the bottom though JawD. I agree with you that if the manager thinks he can replace Simpson and Guthrie and we get fees that he is happy with to sell them, but my main point is that the squad needs strengthening both in numbers and quality rather than decreased in terms of players. No problem with Lovenkrands, Best or those other often mentioned others leaving the club as they have no further part to play and the sooner they go the better, although they too need replaced for the same reason as above. If we want to play in 3 cups next season without it having an adverse effect on league performance, we need these extra players. If he feels that Simpson and Guthrie cannot be replaced then they should offer them both better terms to stay.

  4. The Poll Tax was an absolute disgrace and showed all of them, and her in particular being the PM who championed it too, for the shithouses that they were.
  5. wages is directly correlated with success, not transfer fees. People in all walks of life move for money. There will come a point where if they/you want to progress further you have to pay the money, either to keep or replace with similar quality, but I'm not going to argue this point with you. Lets hope we keep all our best players and add quality like we did in January, which showed how it is done. Interesting to see comments about Simpson and Guthrie. Personally I think as we are competing in 4 competitions next season I think we should keep both.
  6. having started this thread, the conclusion is that the ending was crap, a huge let down which didn't make any sense at all. I hope the 2nd series clarifies some things, although maybe they deliberately dragged it all out to get a 2nd series.
  7. and there you have the facts. How many times did we score first and hold onto the lead I wonder.
  8. we came from behind a lot to win for a while under Bobby Robson iirc. We also won almost all of our games after playing a midweek european game in one of those seasons too which is slightly different but drawn from the same sort of school of thought ie roll up the sleeves and show character and determination to win. This sort of thing is nice when you do it but largely irrelevant when you don't, as its the final score that matters and nothing else, if you are in a high league position you tend not to fall behind so often as take the lead first in games. Anyway, what sort of sad bastard digs up such stats ? Stan Collymore, or what did he say about it ? ffs. The day anybody takes any notice of that shithouse is the day we should give up.
  9. I've been trying to get a film on DVD for a while now, and unfortunately had to accept that it just isn't available. It was serialised on sky 1 years ago and is one of the best books I've read, and I want it on a DVD. I have however found it on You Tube. How can you download this and put it onto a disk to play in a DVD player ? This is it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isdJU0k_LvI
  10. Had a feeling when they beat Barca in the first leg their name was on it, it will be an achievement to win it as Bayern are at home [something which should change and never happen again] but its possible. Now that clubs who aren't champions of their country get into the European Cup, its always possible sub standard teams can win it such is the fine line of football success. Opening the competition out was a backward step but I suppose it depends how you look at it. Things evolve in life, not just football.
  11. who thinks Chelsea will beat Bayern Munich ?
  12. we might as well take the game to them. The lowest we finish is 5th now, absolutely nothing to lose and you never know, Arsenal or Spuds could slip up.
  13. on the right lines. To compete in 4 competitions, you need to add a couple of players to the current team, thus relegating a couple of the current players to the squad. If anybody leaves, you need an extra player again.
  14. Saw the statue on sunday. It looks nothing like him. If they do these things, they ought to do them properly or not at all. Only real view I have of it, is I know Sir Bobby was a great football man who was respected throughout the footballing world, a great manager, lovely man, and gave us good times as a manager, but there are 2 people who are more worthy of that and they are Joe Harvey and Kevin Keegan who both served the club with distinction as players and managers and did much better jobs as managers. Some may not agree, but that's what I think anyway. Speaking of which, the appeal for the Joe Harvey statue of which the Fairs Club are helping to raise funds for, seems to be going very well with lots of ex players, both NUFC and otherwise, chipping in with all sort of memorabilia to help out through the Club [Fairs Club].
  15. so do I Stevie, although if we beat Man City and ManU beat Swanseatomorrow then ManU will only need a point against the mackems in the last game
  16. people may find this interesting. Co-incidentally, this was the last game of the season, Man City beat us and the mackems won at old Trafford so Man City won the title.
  17. Tough job naming the 10 best, you would have to think about it. I'd have to think very hard and I'm sure I'd miss out an obvious one.
  18. there is no footage of the goal Malcolm Macdonald scored against Leicester in 1975 [which I never saw because I was on holiday but I am assured today that it was still better than Cisse's], but going by what I've seen, that 2nd goal from Cisse last night was likewise, absolutely astounding, a ridiculous but amazing hit, whatever you want to call it, watching it at the time was something so completely stunning, the pregnant pause of a second or so before the uproar in the pub said everything. Enjoy because you might never see the like of it again. Outstanding. The Shearer goal against Everton is now relegated to 2nd place, and 3rd place in the view of the person who was at that Leicester game.
