Great example of capitalism that day as hotels gouged the fuck out of people who couldn't get home. My boss met his lass as she was in a panic and they ended up walking most of the way home to bishops stortford which is a canny distance from the city. The head cheese gave us the Friday afternoon off as a thank you for staying on the Thursday not realising there wasn't much choice. Spent it in the pub getting mortal.

Being topical I was at work on the day of the July bombings. Didn't get the tube then but fucker who got the bus might have ended up at Liverpool St. It was a weird day. I remember the trains restarted at about 4 and being part of a crowd walking through the broadgate entrance in complete silence which continued on the train all the way home.

Lost control of my vr6 on a bend and ended up "parked" between 4 trees like the end of that ford advert - like a giant had picked up a car and placed it precisely. Completely unharmed and minor-ish damage to the car. No clue how.

An ex-boss of mine tells a canny story about getting caught up in may day riots in the city a few years ago and being "trapped" in a pub for a few hours. Subsequently when the G8 thing was on we were told to dress down for a few days before and after and given the option of working from home which I took as I didn't trust the coppers not to kettle every fucker (which they did).

I read several articles calling Brevik a Christian terrorist and had no problem with it because it had a lot to do with his mental state. Conflicts with terrorism are always a mixture of politics and religion to different degrees. A man in Tunisia who decides to kill Western tourists falls mainly in the religious part of the spectrum and denials of that abstract the cause.

I agree language is important. The IRA was a political organisation rooted in religion but inspired by the political history not by the bible. There is a political element to Islamic terrorism in which the west also figures but there's no denying the religion is much more central to the motivation. Trying to devolve it from the politics and fuckwittery is part of the problem.

I'll bite back. That Muslim terrorist, inspired by Islam, trained, armed and encouraged by other Muslims to "fight" for a very Islamic cause. Decent Muslims tried to stop him, many others will have applauded him.

I get the tube (two stops being a lazy bastard) at about 7:40 and it wasn't too bad this morning - a bit early for suits so mainly manual workers who at least know what a T-shirt is. I'd also repeat my comments from previous years about office workers wearing shorts on the train - they really do look daft.

Been to many festivals. Stadiums and arenas - I've noticed a level of tech for bands like U2 but its still a miniscule element - I know they're disliked but they reach audiences by music and rapport (and I'd tell Bono to drop all the superfluous shit if I ever met him). I've never been to Glastonbury but I've been to Reading and V several times each. Funnily enough the best headliners I've ever seen in terms of energy, music, engagement and all round being blown away were Suede.

I've never came away from a gig talking about the lighting rig. Sounds like people are desperate to find something positive to say. I don't like the genre, don't know his music and couldn't even name any of his songs so don't know if he was good by his or general standards but the desperation to be positive by people who told us it was wrong to criticise his inclusion and that he would own it or whatever the right phrase is is hilarious.

It's a shame its Tunisia as that was the only place that came out of that Arab Spring bollocks any better off. On one hand I think it shows how European tourist are in a way oblivious to the places they visit but on the other the only hope for a lot of these places is to be "corrupted" by tourism and visitors IMO. I completely accept that western intervention has stirred the shit bucket but that doesn't mean Islam should be allowed to avoid censure for being fucked up.

I'm a science zealot but I agree with you on this. Dismissing stuff that is deadly for hundreds of thousands of years with vague notions of future technology to cope with it or just literally burying it is fucking madness. And that's without the threat of the actual plants going tits up.

Great mood. I was suffering with a nasty cold when I came back from holiday last week which caused one of my ears not to pop from the flight due to the tubes being full of gunk. That meant a week of discomfort and fuzzy hearing which was a right pain. I went to the docs on Friday and he prescribed this device which is basically a balloon you shove up your nose and either blow up or use to pass air up there. It didn't seem to be working but as the problem seemed to be worse yesterday I gave it a really good go before bed last night and the fucker finally popped. I think there's a little bit left in there as its not quite right but I finally feel human again.

I've made my disrespect for religion as a whole very clear on here but I still can't get over how fucked up it is that they think it's okay to carry concealed guns in a church of all places. As i've said before I have sympathy for the bereaved families but the nation as a whole can take its crocodile tears and fuck off as far as I'm concerned.
