  1. I think poor seasons by Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool so far have made it look like we are up there which is why I mentioned luck/management as a factor. One thing LM does get right is that it needs to be year on year.
  2. I'm happy to try Spurs approach but see 5 teams whose revenues/profits/cash are very hard to match. That's why imo challenging around 5th/6th/7th is about "right" sadly. Beyond that its about management/luck. Yeah, I think that should be the expectation, with anything higher something worth celebrating. Having the 3rd biggest stadium has less impact than it used to. Having the 6th biggest revenues and the 7th wealthiest owner should give us a good headstart though. Having the 20th net spend going hand in hand with an as yet unknown profit (before the hefty profit on player trading is accounted for) doesn't suggest we're doing what it takes to maximise those things we have in our favour though. I agree with that last bit and that's why I still don't "support" him. I've said before I don't understand what he really wants to get out of it - if it is "enjoyment" then he could certainly do more.

  4. It has also taken Man City 4 years and 400m to get to a point of having a good chance of winning the league. I still maintain the biggest factor in the success of the previous regime was more down to the two managers than anything they did. Obviously football was different in 96 as well.
  5. Generally true Stevie but in the spirit of accuracy there were only about 150 (I knew one of the lads who bought the tickets) and they did get a canny kicking - still excellent business though.
  6. That's how Spurs have done/are doing it. what a load of crap How many times does it have to be explained - they funded most of their current squad from the sales of Carrick, Berbatov, Defoe (profit) and Keane(profit).
  7. I think Gene should bonus points for the Pat Heard reference
  8. I had a lot of respect for O'Neill when he took the time off to look after his wife and even when he took over that had a bit of a calming effect on my previous distate for the man and his brand of "football" but Sunday has now taken me back to despising him as much as I did when he was at Leicester. I know it's not "classy" but I would have loved to have seen Pardew chin the cunt.

  10. "Speculate to accumulate" Not one penny, ever.
  11. The thing about Cattermole is that it was obviously a tackle meant as a statement - just like De Jong's on Ben Arfa and Karl Henry's on Barton and/or that Wigan player. I know that, everyone in football knows that and the referee should know that which should mean one outcome. Dean is another fucking coward - as he proved with Luiz already this season.

Royal Mail International unit. I bought some IR emitters on ebay from the US as they were unavailble elsewhere. They were £21 with postage but I was charged £3.36 vat by customs - no problem with that. But the above fuckers then added £8 "handling charge" - not much but a third of the total extra. Rip-off UK as the saying goes.
  13. 5 + 4 years respectively
  14. There was a thread the other week demanding Stelling should be sacked and if not legal action taken against Sky for referring to SJP. I can feel my hatred simmering up nicely.
  15. Just got my broadband back on after 3 days - fuck me what a carry on. It first went off last Thursday and I got through to one of the blokes in their north west call centre who actually know what they are talking about and was told there was an area fault which might take days to fix. However it was back on when I got in on Friday. It went off again on Sunday so I rang them from work on Monday morning as I needed to know when it was going to come back on as I cover a support rota. This time it was unforunately the Indian call centre and of course his script didn't handle someone calling from elsewhere, knowing there probably an area fault which had been temporarily patched then failed again and of course someone who sort of knows what they're talking about. Anyway eventually I persuaded him to check if there were known faults and surprise, surprise there was - intended fix date March 2nd so of course I went off it (though toned down dure to being at work). Tonight the lights on the hub looked about right so I did a bit of messing and found that the bastards had reset it to factory defaults (including the local address) remotely. Phoned them again mainbly to ask them why the fuck they did it and got an Indian lass who putting politely was fucking clueless - "you can't set the IP address yourself sir, its set dynamically" - Me: "Not the WAN address the LAN address" Her: "No Sir you can't set it yourself". I decided to be patient but when she started telling me to forget wireless for a moment and see if I could find a cable to connect the modem to the PC I gave up. Next time I'm going to sod politelness and ask them first off if they have a fucking clue.
  16. I know its not exactly good for us, but after last week its great watching these cunts get hammered.
  17. No creativity = no chances. Add in Williamson and Simpson and that's what you get.
  18. Administration is a cunt's trick and its shit that people like LM dismiss it as something that's necessary. Where I used to work we dealt with a company about 5 years ago who supplied a huge system to us but just as it went live they went tits up. A couple of months later the same blokes were back trying to get in the door to sell support and were told to fuck right off. They left lads I know who were working for them with thousands in unpaid invoices. It's the same with football - execpt as an extra pisser the league has rules that other clubs are paid first so its the local businesses and the tax man who lose out. Clubs take it on the chin and even if the ten points leads to relegation they're still "better off" in the medium term. I'd relegate the fuckers two leagues at least and wouldn't care if the club disappeared. If someone wants to form a "Rangers 2012" then should have to do a Wimbledon and start from scratch. "Football is a loss making industry" says LM - if that has to be the case then stop paying fucking players that much fucking money.
  19. ^ I should add that he hasn't has enough backing - but it's the black and white "he's had none" that irks.
  20. Players of that quality Yes - but football isn't as simple as that. I bought into the team spirit thing about Nolan and Barton which made me think it was poor selling them but that's been proved to be a load of shite. You keep saying that finances are meaningless (or suggest that) but if you really think it's a good idea to give a 30 year old a 5 year 55k pw contract then I think you're daft. Similarly tolerating a shit-stirrer just because hie's a good player is something no club should put up with - See Man Utd and up to now Man City (Tevez) as good examples of that. In Enrique's case these things happen - players decide the grass is greener but if they don't want to play for you then I say they can fuck off and die. Of course you'll say that no player should fancy liverpool more than us which I agree with in principle but in reality they always have and always will have more appeal to foreigners - the history is just too much. I'd also argue on the "backing the manager" point that Pardew now has his number one striking target at the club - it's shit that it took a year but suggesting he's had no backing is daft.

I don't have any personal experience of BT but I know of a classic - a lad I used to work with moved house a couple of years ago and informed them he wanted to take his number to his new house. They "forgot" but refused to apologise or compensate him. On the other side, filed under "aren't some people twats" was the fact that the people who bought his house point blank refused to release the number and insisted they kept it.
  22. Disappointed that I'm too nice - just had some nice old woman knock on my door to see how I felt about a street party for the jubilee - she gave me a "any strong objections" option but I just said I wasn't interested in taking part. I suppose an "I abhor the institution and think anyone who respects or supports it any way, shape way or form has absolutely no sense of self-pride or dignity" wouldn't have went down well. I suppoose I still have the option of going mental on the day but I've booked a week off anyway and will probably get the fuck out of the country.
  23. I think there's two sides to the mismanagement - in the non-football world he's obviously a "genius" and a lot of his methods are sort of working. However his ignorance of football - especially the emotional side has led to bad business decisions as well like not realising the link between results and sales. Maybe having someone high up who is a football man wasn't a bad idea - just not Wise. I mean that from a business pov not a football one of course - a David Dein type.
