Pairs Hilton released from jail after 2 days

Recommended Posts

Paris Hilton has been released from prison after serving just three days of her 23 days sentence, it is reported.

Showbiz website TMZ says a deal was agreed yesterday and she was freed this morning.

Hilton, a 26-year-old hotel heiress, had originally been sentenced to 45 days in jail but this was cut to 23 for good behaviour even before she entered prison in Los Angeles.

She was sent down for violating probation in a drink-related reckless driving case after being caught driving without a valid licence.

The LA County Sheriff's officer is due to give more details within the hour.

Hilton surrendered to custody after attending Sunday's MTV Movie Awards.

Jailed socialite Paris Hilton has been released from jail after serving three days of her 23-day sentence after falling ill.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office said Hilton had been freed and would instead be confined to her home for 40 days wearing an electronic tagging device.

Sheriff's office spokesman Steve Whitmore said Hilton had been "reassigned" but declined to give specific information on her medical condition.

Mr Whitmore said: "With extensive consultation with medical personnel it was decided this reassignment should be done."

He said her time in jail totalled five days because she arrived just before midnight on Sunday night and left just after midnight this morning.

The 26-year-old heiress checked into the Century Regional Detention Facility in suburban LA on Sunday to serve 23 days for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

The evening before she was jailed, Hilton made a surprise appearance at the MTV Movie Awards, where she worked the red carpet in a strapless designer gown.

If her surname wasn't Hilton...

Paris Hilton sent back to prison

Celebrity heiress Paris Hilton has been taken screaming from a Los Angeles court after being told to return to jail to serve out her sentence.

The celebrity heiress was ordered to attend the hearing rather than listen to the proceeding by telephone.

Hilton left jail on Thursday, just three days into a 45-day sentence for violating probation on a driving ban.

Her release from the prison, on unspecified medical grounds, had sparked widespread criticism.

Hilton attended court to hear the case for her "reassignment" to house arrest.

She arrived in handcuffs and cried throughout the court session.

The judge said that she would have to serve her full 45-day sentence.

"It's not right!" she shouted in response, before calling out to her mother in the audience.

She has been held at the Century Regional Detention Centre in Lynwood, California, in a special unit for celebrities, public officials, police officers and other high-profile inmates, and has so far served five days of her sentence.

No details of the medical problem have been given for "privacy reasons".
