Keegan Hopes Barton & Viduka Will Lift Newcastle

Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan is looking forward to welcoming midfielder Joey Barton and striker Mark Viduka to the first team for Monday's trip to relegation-battlers Birmingham City.

Barton’s bail restrictions meant he was not available for last weekend’s trip to Liverpool, and the 25-year-old will also miss the Everton clash later in the season. Viduka meanwhile, had been troubled with his injury problems, but the Australian is expected to be fit to start at St Andrew’s.

"We knew we couldn't play Joey against Liverpool, and we know we won't be able to play him against Everton in the last game of the season, and we have known that for a long time," Keegan said on the club’s official website.

"He's a player who, a little bit like Mark Viduka, gives us something we haven't got.

"With the small squad we've got, we need everybody fit and trying to get into the side and making the competition tough, and I'm delighted to have him back."

A wrap sheet?

As good as Torres is playing, I'd say Adebayor has had the slightly better season overall and contributes more all-round than Torres. Mind you the Spaniard has done amazingly well in his first season and I'm glad we won't be facing either before the end of the season.

With regards to Monday, I think he should drop Smith at least for Viduka. Martins (despite his criticism on here) is still our top goal-scorer depsite not starting since the Man City home game and while I'd like to see him get his run, I reckon Owen should get the benefit of the doubt to see if him and Viduka can link-up at St.Andrews and possibly the Fulham game too.

I dont understand how Keegan cant see how desperately shit owen and smith are at the minute. We dont even make keepers make a save anymore. The reason we have 4 strikers is so that if this situation happens we can put the other 2 in!

Viduka and Martins together cant possibly be any worse than the other 2

Croatian Australian? If it was me I would be chomping at the bit to play for my mother country, not some sand ridden backwater.

You know Mark Twain once said "It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt". In your case it is too late to heed this advice.

You know Hulk Hogan once said "winners don't do drugs", I bet in real life you're just as much of a preachy hypocritical wanker as he was. In fact I know it, Mark Twain just texted me to confirm it, while also disassociating himself from you and withdrawing any implicit attribution rights to his intellectual property he may have inadvertantly led you to believe you had. And he also said that he has had your mam.

I hate to labour the point but every tap of your computer keyboard just seems to spell the phrase "I am a twat" over and over again. Had your mam lol.

It's this kind of thing KK comes out with that really worries me.

I take it with a pinch of salt tbh mate. He's bigging him up, the right thing to do. He's ruthless, Keegan. Viduka will be out of the door as soon as he's got a replacement, just like David Kelly was, and others.

Some people are just looking for any excuse to knock KK.

sometimes he deserves it, Ive not been on RAWK for a while but Im guessing they're laughing their little scouse tits off at that comparison.

Tbf that will be how the article has been spun though. Keegan is saying Viduka can score goals out of nothing like Torres did the other night (which is true), not that Viduka is as good as Torres or that he will be as succesful as him. The media are scum, but they're clever scum, as demonstrated by the number of people leaping to 'OMG Keegan is deluded' after reading that headline.

Always thought that supporting nufc has some sort of mental illness aspect to it. Revising psychiatry right now incidentally. :puke:

Agree, its amazing how often people read this stuff in the media get wound up by it and then go and behave exactly as the writers wanted you to. All he was saying as Luke pointed out is that on his day Viduka is the sort of player who can turn a game/score a goal from nothing like Torres and even Viduka's biggest critics know fine well that is true, he just doesn't do it enough.

At no point has Keegan Viduka is the greatest plater in the world or anything similar that people seem to believe. If you want deluded then look at Roy Keane and his claim that Kenwyne Jones is 'as good as Drogba and worth £40m' a while back, now that is some crazy lack of persepctive!

  • 1 month later...

Id have Viduka ahead of Smith up front any game. Id also prefer a fully fit Viduka/Owen than Martins/Owen and Viduka has strength up front.

I'd hoy on Viduka, Owen AND Martins. Whether it meant Martins on the right or behind the front 2.

I really should be given a job in football management.

Keegan blatantly read this and has stuck with it since

did we not start with the 3 of them up front against blackburn which was before you said that?

No, but Viduka wasn't fit and Martins came back from the ACN carrying a knock.
