where has this recurring idea that we're going to cut his wages come from anyway? i assume it's pure guesswork seeing as no one from the club would actually tell the press something like that

 

anyway most players under 30 are likely to want to leave if you try and cut their wages, hardly a sensational idea really

Chelsea, Man U or Liverpool are the only ones - not Everton or Man City - probably why Man U were linked.

I doubt even those clubs would be prepared to pay him that much. That's why I can't understand the whole hysteria about him leaving the club.

If you got him on a free though you could pay him somewhere close to that or make up the difference (or near enough) with a signing-on fee. I don't see him going anywhere this summer really, it's more a question of whether he signs a new contract or goes on a Bosman in 12 months time.

He 'writes' for the Times like so I've always thought the stuff in there about him had more than a hint of truth, i.e. the release clause speculation, etc.
