None of this mackem shit either.

I still think mixing with them is healthier than a Stevie style Apartheid - doesn't mean you have to like them of course.

Perhaps, there was little real animosity when I lived in Chester-le-Street. With the exception of the Strawberry I find the over-the-top tribalism seen in some pubs as cringeworthy.

Trying to be objective, which city is the best for pubs?

I nominate Edinburgh, Newcastle, York, and Belfast.

Loved Edinburgh but found a lot of them shut fairly early, another place that reminded me of Edinburgh that's great though is Galway, Cobbled streets lined with bars and such.

No Bar will ever replace Katy's as my favourite i think, due to going there since i was 17.

But yeah i'd echo Belfast, Dublin and Edinbrough/Galway.

Certain cities i've been drinking in (like Cardiff recently it was a bit nuts) there seems to be a higher ratio of plastered arseholes around, and I tend to be watching what they're doing/on edge when I'm out with mates making sure no one gets hassle rather than relaxing when were wandering around the place.

There are some good places around that castle. But a bit too studenty/gaylordscarf/irritating at weekends.

If I turn my head 90 degrees and look out of the window I can see that :o

Only been a few times though - prefer The Gun.

Haven't been for years but served my drinking apprenticeship there and had many happy days and nights.

Mackem pub.

Definitely - when we first started drinking there in about 81 we got a bit of grief but my mate was a minier who knew the lads who got in there so we got over it and had some good crack with them.

Not exactly a theme but we migrated from there to The Westoe and then onto The County, the latter being pretty much Mackem central.

The County and The Westoe are both alright actually.

The last one was undoubtedly the best pub in the world, ever. RIP Barley Mow. :D

Indeed - many a brilliant night spent in there. One of my mates was that wrecked he tried to chat up the drainpipe in the beer garden :o

Could do with more recommendations for central London because everywhere I have been has been shit.

Whenever I have to go into the city, I make a bee-line for this place:

One of the Fuller's 'Ale & Pie' houses - and the pies are fucking awesome :o
