Fresh from Wednesday night's 5-0 thrashing of West Ham United, Pardew then hinted that he is also hoping to recruit from his former club. "I want a player, our board wants a player but that doesn't mean the other club wants to sell," he said.

"In some ways you don't know if the result yesterday was a good thing or a bad thing. There's a sort of clue thrown in there."

From the guardian.

Maybe teams above us don't fancy giving us players after that win?

Couldn't that be less about signing a player from West Ham and more about the fact we looked like we have strength in depth and therefore don't need another player?

Freddy Sears is mentioned in the Chron.

And Marradonna Larsson

Aye, bit of positive thinking. Let's hope he responds well to coming to a big club, feels he has summat to prove and raises his game, adding to the team in the process. :wank:

ALAN PARDEW will turn his attention elsewhere as the January transfer chase begins to gather pace.

And going into tonight’s FA Cup third round tie with Stevenage it was very much a case of “deal or no deal?” for the Newcastle United boss.

The Chronicle understands that Pardew remains upbeat about the prospect of signings in the window.

But as we revealed last night, the Toon boss will not sacrifice the togetherness of his Toon team for players arriving with “big demands”.

United target David Bentley is likely to join Birmingham City after having a “must play every game” clause sanctioned by Alex McLeish, with the second city side also prepared to shell out over £70,000 per week to meet his wage demands. The ex-Arsenal and current Tottenham player was due to have a medical today.

Swedish international Seb Larsson has also been subject of a bid from Newcastle, but talks are ongoing for a player who City want to keep and to whom they have offered a new contract.

Larsson – now also a target for Sunderland – becomes a free agent in the summer and could leave Birmingham for nothing.

If true, pleased he was told to sling his hook.
