Comedians:

That mention of Sid James dying on stage in Sunderland made me think that I saw Jasper Carrot at the same theatre (The Empire) in 82 just after The Stiones played SJP and I remember him getting all the Mackems laughing at there being 36k there - of course that was just before KK signed and the next crowd was QPR :huff:

Only other comedian I've seen live was Chubbby Brown years ago just when he was starting to be famous - he played a bar in Shields I've forgotten the name of.

Music:

Up until about 5 years ago I used to go to a couple of gigs a month plus 2 festivals - now go to about 4 or 5 a year - last was Ash, next is the Manics in a couple weeks.

Seen Duke Special walking around Belfast a few times. You can't miss him.

haha aye he's in that bar The John Hewitt a fair bit, lives in eastbelfast somewhere. Was in front of me at a cash machine a few months back, wasn't overly paying attention till i looked up and seen the dreadlocks realised who it was.

Saw him just walking about 2 or 3 times and I've seen him at the airport once. Someone recognised him and started talking to him. Seems like a nice bloke. Seen him perform on TV over there too (some late night culture-type programme). I quite like his stuff and I'd normally hate a white person with dreads :huff:

They're all in a bag in the attic/littered on the bookshelf. I want to get them in order and have a proper look through them.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Broken Social Scene.

Too many to remember. Last year, the highlights were Paul McCartney at Isle of Wight, Joanna Newsom at The Sage and The Jim Jones Revue at The Cluny. This year, I've got Twin Shadow, The Go Team, Slow Club, The Hold Steady, Band of Horses and Primal Scream to look forward to in the next couple of months, it's going to be mint.

Seen Dara o'briain before he made it big with mock the week etc, he was at electric picnic, was really good, the festival has a comedy tent, seen him, tommy tiernan and they had jason byrne doing compare

Seen queens of the stoneage 3 times over the years and EODM twice :icon_lol: i love going to gigs normally make a point of trying to go to least two or 3 outside of ireland a year, even if its just glasgow or something.

Naw Josh rarely does the tours for EODM especially in europe, tbh it kinda works out well when he doesn't as they get Joey Castillo the drummer from QOTSA to do it :icon_lol: and as much as i think Josh is an awesome frontman, he's not a patch drumming wise on that lad lol. Excellent band live though, Jessie Hughes is a great front man puts on a good show.

I was at this one last, they had Troy Van Leeuwen from qotsa playing guitar as well as joey

:icon_lol: Excellent, Troy AND Joey! I rekon Joey is really good but not quite as good as Dave Grohl of course! There are two bands I want to see more than anything and that Queens and U2. I love Josh, vastly under-rated though imo.

What do you think of Them Crooked Vultures album? Must admit its growing on me now, though at first it sounded too heavy.

Just lucky as it's a perk of the job. as I've two young kids now, I tend to use gigs as my nights out with the lads.

Going 'away' for a gig can be great fun, Ant. About 8 of us flew to Sheffield a couple of years back to watch Chromeo play in a venue called the Plug. One of the most fun gigs I've ever been to.
