I just left - 5 days ago.

I want to go back already.

Any suggestions?

Whats your reason for visiting?

1] Strippers. We didnt visit them this time but I was in Vegas about 7 months ago for a stag party and Spearmint Rhino seemed to be the main one. Watch out for the extra charge when getting a private dance. You have to give the bouncer extra money on top of the girl as well. Jokes.

2) Gambling. Every casino is more or less excellent. The drinks are free when gambling so just slip the waitress a buck each time. The quickest serving waitresses seemed to be Paris this time around. I spent most of my time in Bellagio. I like Mandalay Bay as well. I mainly just played blackjack or roulette.

3) Hookers. Never shagged a working girl but you'll see loads of borderline hispanic dwarves on the strip giving you leaflets & catalogues for prossies. They aren't allowed to speak to you (some loophole in the law) but will whack the flyers off there hands and make clicking noises. They even try to give them to blokes who have wives and relatives in tow. A mild annoyance.

4) Food. The all you can eat buffets are sublime. On one plate (In Harrahs) I had corn bread, the most amazing turkey breast ever, with gravy, marshmallows on top of yams, mussels and fried chicken thigh. Mental. :( The Rio does and amazing seafood buffet if thats your thing and the Bellagio's is well renowned.

5) Shows. I went to see Penn & Teller. Absolute class and one of the highlights. They dont sell out so you can get tickets easily for them. They perform at the Rio.

6) Hotels. Without doubt the best hotel I have ever stayed in is the Vdara. They were originally built as Condos but when the recession hit they turned it into a hotel. It doesn't have a Casino but its joined to Bellagio. Basically about 7 mins walk from hotel to Casino.

Tipping and taxes fuck me off. You look at a menu & think "thats reasonable".

Where are you staying?

Let me know if you need any more info mate.

Only there for a couple of nights, doubt we'll do much but take in a show and hit the Casinos and maybe take in a show... Honestly, I'm not a massive fan of strip joints anyway.

Re: Drinks, I heard that players get free food as well, that true?

Re: Hookers. :( I'm definitely not getting a hooker mate, but after finding out they're hispanic dwarves I'm beginning to have second thoughts.

Re: Food. Yeah we're planning on stocking up on the all you can eat stuff before we set off for Northern LA, figure it'll work out cheap and fulfilling

Re: Shows. How much were the tickets? The Blue Man Group were over £100!

Staying at the MGM Grand, going to try and get an upgrade from the suite we've got to something pimp. Going midweek, so hopefully there'll be plenty of space.

Average is 15% isn't it?

Cheers for info pal

I dont think the hookers are hispanic dwarves. They just do the leaflet distribution. I'd like to think so anyway !

Penn & Teller was about $50 - I think. We booked them in advance to get 40% off. Vegas Shows website

I'd definitely recommend going to Penn & Teller. They wait outside after the show as well and you can meet them and get your pic taken with them. I got a shot with Teller. He is taller than he looks on TV as Penn is apparently 6 foot 7 (height and width!)

MGM is nice. That was my second choice this time around. You have real lions next to the check in. Classic.

I tip between 10-15%. You sometimes get cheeky waitresses that write down in pen 15, 18, 20% values of your meal on the bill. cheeky fuckers. They get 10%.

Vegas is amazing mate. You'll have a great time. Are you flying direct? The flight from London to Vegas is the only flight that has ever given me jet lag. It has taken me 2-3 days to "get on clock" twice now.

Just walking around all the casinos during the day will take up most of your time. And its a must do.

The scale of the place is incredible. Its really is an adults playground.

Helicopter trip to inside the Grand Canyon: stretched limo to/from your hotel; a champagne picnic inside Grand Canyon: fly over Hoover dam; and lake whatshisface. It aint cheap, but then you're not in Vegas every day. If you do go, don't go first thing in the morning as the sun is in the wrong direction for pics. Oh, and you have to get weighed prior to getting on the chopper, so you may have reservations? :(

If you have the balls for it, get yourself to the top of Stratosphere and go on the rides on the top. Snakehips too pussy to do it!!

See the Bellaggio water extravaganza. I think it's on every hour in the evenings in front of the hotel. It only lasts five minutes, but it's canny good.

Go for a gondola ride inside the Venitian hotel. Even if you walk inside instead, it's something to see.

Phone one of the cows from a flip card the mexicans on the street give you. Envite her back to your room for a nice threesum. If your lass isn't interested then she can make the coffee and/or take the pics for keepsake

There are coaches available which take you to/from the airport to your hotel. Unless I'm mistaken though, these weren't much cheaper than taxis, plus you have to wait for their times of departure. Someone else could confirm this?

Aye, airport shuttle was about $7. Taxi was about about $35 for me to the vdara (back of Bellagio)

Grand Canyon chopper flight is well worth it but if they havent booked it pre-hand it may be booked out

The Venetian is very nice. Not sure about getting on the Gondola though. I did try the oxygen bar in the venetian though. Not sure it did much to be honest but its supposed to help with jet lag.

vegas is ALL about money. money rules there so make sure you bring plenty. and be prepared to go home with not much. as long as you're prepared for that, you will have the best time ever. it's the ultimate 24 hour party city. but very different to the uk.

gambling is obviously what you'll be doing most of the time you're there. i stayed in the mgm grand midweek a few years back and there are loads of 5 or 10 dollar stake tables so you can acutally spend a couple of hours there getting pretty pissed and not spending anything if you know how to play blackjack. craps is also a fun, socialble games where the odds are quite good.

just remember to tip the waitresses well and they'll keep the free cocktails coming as quickly as you can drink them. if you're playing blackjack, make sure you play by 'the book.' there are a bunch of rules that most players stick to and if you go in there making rookie mistakes, you'll annoy the rest of the table. sticck to the basics and chances are you might break even, or even win a bit if you're smart. i'm not and always end up blowing my winnings and leaving with a deficit. at least you get hammered for free though?

are you single? if so, you will have a riot. the girls out there LOVE british accents but they're really superficial; they won't really give a shit if you're not the best looking guy in town as long as you buy them drinks. are you a going with a group of guys? if so, i'd definitely recommend getting a table at one of the super clubs - all the big casinos have them. i was at a stag do last spring and we got a table at tao in the venitian. very cool place but would have been murder without the table. you basically get a private area cordoned off run by some guy called a 'mood manager' who will hand pick the fittest girls from the club to come and chill with you. he actually even offered to send some back because they weren't fit enough - only in vegas. the girls know the score though; the fit ones will come in chalk up a couple of free dinks off you guys and cop off with the single lads in the group.

another club well worth checking out is the ghost bar at the palms. there's a glass dancefloor that overhangs 55 floors up with one of the best views of the strip. we had a pretty wild night in there.

also, if you're going on a stag, it's well worth going to the bare pool bar in the mirage. you'll lose count of the plastic titties on display. well worth reserving a cabana there on a saturday if you fancy an all day session in the sun.

agree with holden btw that you can easily spend your time going on missions around the casinos but if you want to get away from the booze and the gambing there are loads of other distractions. a helicopter ride over the grand canyon and hoover dam is pretty amazing, but pricey. there are loads of stag type activities like go karting, firing big guns at a shooting range, quad biking desert dune buggies. we did the shooting last time i was there. it was pretty nuts; got to fire ak47s, shotguns and the dirty harry magnum. it was pretty scary actually - not sure i'd do it again.

in terms of casinos, i rate bellagio and venetian as the best. they're always packed; good atmospheres and well located in the centre of the strip.

You'll have an amazing time, it's 6 months since I was there and I can't wait to go back. Even just walking around the hotels is brilliant as there's so much going on. You'll have no bother getting plenty of free drink while sitting at tables - I'm not much of a gambler so didn't think I'd be around long enough but still managed to get plenty free stuff.

I didn't go to any shows as it's not really my scene but loads came highly rated from people I spoke to.

Eat as much as you can physically manage - I did and walked it all off just wandering along the Strip. Some of the food available in the buffets was beautiful, and I'm not usually a fan of buffets. Hash House A Go Go, as seen on Man V Food, was lovely too.

Enjoy.

while technically drinks are 'free' when you are playing, if you don't tip the waitress she'll take a long time getting back to you, $1/ drink is still dirt cheap and it keeps the booze flowing.

See this is why I should have booked everything. My mate said he'd sort the Grand Canyon and the internal flights. As of 15:00 today he hadn't booked a God Damned thing. So I've had to basically give up on the Helicopter Canyon tour unless there are spaces available last minute. Also obviously, the later you leave flights the more expensive they are.

Buggerfuckshitwank.

His thinking was that it'd be cheaper and "more fun" if it was left up til the last minute. :(

People are not reliable.

EditOh and cheers for the input peoples

Hoping to go later in the year (September time) my Chicago mate is a "high roller" so we'll get a king-suite,limo from airport etc. all gratis from the Casino (Sams Town) he frequents, wanted to go for years but the Mrs has never fancied it !! This years our 30th Wedding anniversary though so she's weakening, going to arrange to renew our vows with "Elvis" if the trip comes off :(

BTW when I say high roller, he's not minted by any stretch, it's just he's gone to Vegas twice a year for donkeys years taking around a $2000 stake every time, in that time he's turned over several million dollars, usually comes home skint (although he came back with $17,000 superbowl weekend!!) but it's the turnover that counts evidently.

Be interested to hear how you find the tiredness effect of the direct flight, I dunno whether to go there first then up to Chicago/Wisconsin (to visit family) or other way round and come back home from Vegas.

i'd go to vegas on your way home. it's the best way to round off any trip to the states. going on somewhere else after will probably feel like an anticlimax

Flying out to Miami this time next week. Flying to the west coast and driving up to Vegas from San Diego. A fair drive but can't wait...

Never been to America and mostly looking forward to Vegas. The two lads I'm going with have also got girlfriends though so will be a look but don't touch kind of trip :icon_lol:
