Santon > Raylor

Recommended Posts

Andy Griffin kept Juventus quiet once. Fact is, that settled back line has been a big part of a good start.

good for him, santon did that as well, difference being is he made quite a number of appearances doing it, picked up two league medals and a champions league medal along the way (nevermind the coppa italia as well)

Even with Ashley's 'new' vfm transfer policy we shouldve brought a left back and a striker in during the summer. The stories about taking the piss at both ends of the market sum the prick up. We may have nicked a win at QPR or v Arsenal if we'd had a fit motivated striker instead of a clearly out of sorts Ba and a barely fit Shola. We may well have won one of them and be 2 points or possibly more better off this morning. If Taylor had been on the bench yesterday would we have got to half time nowts each? What would have happened then? We'll never know, the result wouldve been probably the same, but the point is that we're not being given the best chance of capitilising on Pardews apparent excellent managerial abilities because he's not being backed properly. Not to have a first choice left footed left back is appalling.

Am sure Pardew wont mind, he knew the deal when he signed up, but for anyone complaining about Ryan Taylor, then the trouble is the lack of depth in the squad and the man at the top is responsible for that.

There'll be a bedding in period with him though. You're disrupting a backline that's been solid and there's no assurances he's going to hit the ground running. If he does then, fair play, I'll agree it's right to drop him but I think it's far too soon to disrupt the back four because of one defeat.

not really i don't expect us to be anywhere other than midtable come end of the season tbh, just iritating seeing the likes of taylor get a game.

almost as irritating as his "Free kick specialist" label, 8 freekicks scored in a career does not make you a specialist ffs

*chuckles* thats not what .co.uk or pardew said when they signed him.....I like being right.

http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20110830/newcastle-sign-davide-santon_2281670_2436667

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said: "We are delighted to bring to Davide to Newcastle.

"He is a quality left-back and an established international who also gives us flexibility in defence.

"Davide is a young lad and a great signing for us and I am sure he will adapt to the Premier League very quickly."

so either he's a liar, or he's such a bad manager he doesn't know the real position of a player he has purchased.

Whilst we are on about being right... Steven Taylor anyone? Puts his body on the line with a smashed face and he was outstanding yesterday

Thought he was canny slow to react. My overall point was that people wanting to drop Taylor is more to do with a longer held opinion on him coupled with the unknown quantity of Santon on the bench who is rated. Let's not forget people were calling for Marveaux to start on the right despite him being one-dimensional and uncomfortable out there in the games he played wide right. Santon should be the next RB as soon as Simpson's out the team, not the LB. Taylor's been infinitely more solid than Simpson this year IMO (though, I accept that part of that is down to Gutierrez' contributions defensively (which again, brings up the ludicrous notion that some people have had of dropping him)), is more comfortable with the ball at his feet and has scored important goals. Simpson offers nothing but a decent sprinter. Drop Taylor when we get a natural LB but IMO, he's done nowt to warrant getting dropped like. This game wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back ala Williamson's shite run of form that let Steven Taylor back in, just one dodgy game against the best team in the country and the most in-form full back in the league. Evra struggled, Assou-Ekotto struggled, Warnock struggled, Olsson would have struggled. He's not a scapegoat for our loss yesterday.

I've since watched the full 90 minutes btw. Mistakes, aye but fucking hell, Steven Taylor has made worst mistakes in the past year.

I'm on board with everything else, but I thought Marveaux was excellent wide right against Everton and didn't look uncomfortable at all. He's a big loss.

Calls for R. Taylor to be dropped are perhaps a bit premature. He was torn up by the best attack in the Premier League and he isn't a left-back (or really any sort of defender at all.) But throwing Santon in the deep end seems like a bad plan as well.

I think we should persevere with R. Taylor for a couple of games, but I do have two questions: why aren't we even giving Santon minutes? If we don't want to drop Ryan for him, I understand that, but he's made what, three appearances? He could've come on as a sub yesterday once we were 3-0 down, if not for R. Taylor then for Simpson.

Secondly, why is it that we sold our only left back and then replaced him with a right back while playing a (sort of) right back as left back in the meantime? In other words, how did we lose our only recognised left back and STILL not have one when the season began? Criminally poor planning from gambler Ashley yet again. It was bad enough that we never brought in cover for Enrique, but having no specialist left backs is mismanagement at its finest.

Maybe's we should drop Ba aswell then for missing 2 sitters then?

Ben Arfa is a much better player than Best but people were happy not to change drop Best cos he was doing pretty decent in an unbeaten team

Seems people were waiting for R Taylor to make a mistake for them to champion Santon to replace him. He's surpassed all expectations that we had at the start of the season when we started him, give him some credit man he's been no means been sh*te for us this season and doesnt warrant getting dropped on one performance.

Plus if we hadn't of fannied around for weeks getting a replacement for Enrique we could have had him starting at LB from the start of the season and that why he isn't in the team, because weve done well all season and the lack of decision making getting him in quick enough.

fuck me people make stupid comparisons, it's as bad as people on twitter giving me grief but who haven't seen santon outside of his apps for us.

Ba has a 1 in 2 or better goalscoring record at every club he's been at over what 3 different leagues in 3 different countries? so he's got a track record of not being awful where as we have Ryan Taylor

Ryan Taylor in the same career span has been average at best, for the most part below that, if at the start of the season people were told "Taylor will be out left back" everyone would have went fucking ballistic.

not just some people everyone, because based on past performances no one liked the fella that much, infact where were all the Ryan Taylor fans protesting that he should be on ahead of simpson eh?

fucking no where because they were still in there "well they're both a bit shite" opinions off him.

Now he's had a run in an "inform" team people think he's somehow competent, now i say inform team and not "inform defence" because we've not actually kept that many cleansheets 1 in 11 games actually.

Granted we haven't conceded bucketloads, but we've been playing those powerhouses like wolves, and blackburn and stoke, and arsenal before RvP turned into a one man team.

Infact i bet if you use the search above for Taylor/Raylor and shit or some sort of combination of that ilk we'll find many of the same people slating him over the previous games.

Now i'm not saying drop Taylor, i think him and simpson are both similar, Simpson annoys the fuck outta me, he shuffles and stands off wingers letting them put in crosses, what i'm saying is drop fucking one of them and play the £5m signing who at worse won't be any less competent than one of them, and at least has the potential to be better, fuck me he was in a side that one serie.a twice on the trot a champions league and some cups, it's not like he's going to be out of his fecking depth.

I don't give a flying fuck how well simpson and taylor have done since the start of the season, it's not a cartoon/movie they don't suddenly wake up one morning and forget they're shite. Its a good run in which has featured no real test, until really spurs (who should've finished us off with a few chances) Everton who arguably deserved at least a point of not more, man city with 2 defensive howlers, and now nani/young/valancia/giggs/malouda/mata/etc/etc

Honestly some utter hypocrits on here champion someone they ripped the piss out of before this fortunate run.

edit > and he's not a "free kick specialist" the next pundit that says that needs a fucking slap 12 goals in 6years makes you a once in a blue moon specialist

I haven't read this thread but I think Simpson is more inconsistent than R.Taylor and regularly performs poorer.

Get Santon at right back and court Peiterson or Cissokho in summer for left back.
