Things I'm puzzled by today.

1. I'm seem to have several options for saving contacts. Do I just save them to the phone or Google or some other place?

Best thing to do is manage your contacts on a Gmail account on your PC and sync those contacts to your phone. That way they'll automatically be on any other phone you buy. You'll still be to edit contacts on your phone and add new ones. Thoise changes will be reflected at your Gmail contacts as well. It's just easier on a PC when you're starting and have hundreds to add.

It will also give you the choice of whether you sync Facebook, Twitter, Skype, Whatsapp, etc. contacts and lync all peoples separate accounts.

I prefer not to have my contacts so full of acquantances from Facebook I would never ring, so only sync Gmail.

2. I used to have stuff / reminders etc set up in the calender, but the one on the phone doesn't seem as capable.

Google Calendar is very capable. Again, best to set them up on a PC in the first instance...

Though you can on your phone quite easily.

You can subscribe to any other calendars using the ical, xml or html code. For example you should be able to add my NUFC calendar...

3. Ringtones and text alerts are hopeless xylophone tunes. Other than using some pop tunes, is it possible to get other alerts ringtones?

Aye, just save any MP3 you like to your phone or use any of the multitude of free apps, like Zedge

Not all doom and gloom though. Living the screen size, the sound and the 4g :)

Cheers HF. That's a big help. (Not sure about the MP3 bit but I'll search Google for an mp3 and then try and download it???

I've edited the response.

Sounds like you probably just wanted Zedge so you can just have a wider array of ringtone type sounds to choose from.

That's was exactly what I needed. (Zedge). Happy bunny. Thanks

  • 4 weeks later...

Must admit, several weeks into android, I am yearning for what seems like the simplicity of IOS :(

Im sure some of its down to advancing years, but it just seems lots to get your head around.

If Iphone unleash a big beast phone in the Autumn I think I'll be back.

Same here. iphone is so terribly bland once you've tasted android.

I suppose it varies from person to person. Some people like to stick to what they know. There's nothing stopping anyone from keeping their android phones simple if they want to though.

Anyone fancy google glass now on sale for £1000. It's a steep price to look like a bit of a twat imo.

Only good thing I can imagine using it for is filming, but then a gopro would be better quality at a quarter of the price.

Each time I go into my Barclays app on my phone it tells me I don't have virus protection or something and I should download there free one.

Do peeps usually put that sort of stuff on their android?

Nope.

I don't virus protect anything. Never had a problem with my PC since the internet started.

Bugs the shit out of me how much crap my parents manage to get onto their PC, they must be hitting heinous porn sites with dodgy safety constantly.

Comparison of oneplus one and iphone shows how far apple have fallen behind...

The whole Google suite of apps is free. Google Music is free and will store up top 20,000 tracks in the cloud so no worries about ITunes.

What else do you think you'll have to buy.

Available for pre-order now and order completion for one hour on Monday afternoon.

They're mad on free promotion. They sell the phones at cost, so no budget for advertising. Last week they gave away a free phone every 20 minutes but you had to tweet @ 2 followers why they should get one or why you wanted one. I didn't go to that level of spamming, just the ones that need a single simple RT.
