The Aussie batting has been fragile as fuck for ages but they've been selective in their shot making this innings, we just fling the bat at everything, rubbish. This is the fucking Ashes ffs. The weather has been like a warm summer’s day in England too so you can only expect the weather to exacerbate the issue for the bowlers as the tour goes on if England can’t find a way to bat long. There’s only 7 of them and 5 have played here. So the pace rotation options aren’t that great. Stokes will need to need to play every match when fit too as he’s so essential from a balance point of view as well as being the skipper. He’ll only be rested (maybe) if it’s a dead rubber. We absolutely HAD to win this one for any chance of the Ashes and from 100 for 1 at lunch we were in a prime spot, our bowlers shouldn't have been bowling until tomorrow even with moderately competent batting. I know it’s easy to employ hindsight but if things go the way I expect from here Bazball is just a failed experiment at the end of the day. He’ll probably go and so will Stokes. What I find annoying is we’ve actually got some top players. We should’ve won the Ashes at home two years ago imo. It would have been very difficult to come here and win but you have to give yourself and your bowlers a fucking chance, man. No wonder it’s ridiculed in Australia. I could point at a few things in other series too. When they lost by a run or two in New Zealand after they enforced the follow on it was lauded as magnificent sportsmanship whereas I thought doing the one thing that gave the opponents a sniff in a test match was a fucking disgrace tbh.
