Off to Bilbao and San Sebastián in June. Going to mooch around eating and drinking for 10 days.

Got a week in Mallorca end of August as well to sit in the sun and read a book.

Work has been a right drag recently so can’t wait for either.

Nice!

Always fancied both Bilbao and San Sebastian.  You been before?

San Sebastian has about 10 Michelin star restaurant's doesn't it too?  So you'll be smashing it with them too.

The Guggenheim museum in Bilbao looks mega.  There is supposed to be some stunning architecture there and really nice parks too.  Let us know how you get on.

Yeah there is a thing in architecture called the Bilbao effect, basically about how the Guggenheim started the regeneration of a former industrial town. It’s quite interesting.

Interesting and little known fact is that Solomon R. Guggenheim’ father “Americanised” his surname from the original when the family moved there from Euwrup.
Moshe Gewgenhyam grew up in a hovel in what was then the village of Fulwell, son of the local miller.
It’s rewmoured that he was intending to sail to Bilbao to start a new life but a passing sailor tricked him in to sailing to New York.

No excuse for you being from London. More tricky here, need to travel to Edinburgh or Manchester I think.

I went to San Sabastien on the only foreign holiday I took with my parents, Biarritz area of France, went over the border on a day trip, I would have been 14. I guess this wasn't that long after Franco and it was really poor, as in poverty,  even compared with 80s Newcastle. Clearly remember be beckoned by prostitutes hanging out the windows. My Dad and brother were too. Getting a clip from my mum as I headed to the front door....

Kalkan in Turkey booked in. B)

Had a place there for a few years, started going when it was just a little more than a fishing village with one hotel and a few restaurants, it's a just tad bigger now 😉. Not been back for a few years though.

Moonlight Bar, top end of the town centre, is the place to start/end your evening and get a shave off Eddie the barber, best in town, Besiktas fan btw.

Oh and change your cash at the jewelers, they'll have boards outside (Mahuddin aka Martin at Moonlight bar used to do it too) better rates than the post office/bank.

I've been before and yep, Moonlight Bar is great - so too is Shade Lounge. Did go to the barber's when I was there but can't remember if it's the one you're on about.

Enjoy 👍 Martin'll point you to Eddie. I never shaved myself when over there, proper cut-throat shave = total luxury 😂
